Regarding the use of HTML
« on: January 15, 2002, 06:21:28 PM »
Although our boards do support HTML, we would like to ask that you do not use it too often or abuse the feature.

You may put a link to your website only in your signatures, and please do not use any large banners or photos.

Our board sees a lot of traffic, and hence the reduction in pixels would lead to an increase in speed.

Thanks
Just a fan of this awesome site.

Oh okay I understand now, when I first joined EOL I tried to add a flash signature I made myself, It's 240x80 a lot smaller than the signature I have now.

I still wouldn't be able to use it would I?

treat it just like a web adress (I think  ;) ) i.e. if its in your hard disk then my documents then pictures it might be something like this: c:\mydocuments\mypictures(name of picture) i think thats how it works

Coolbeans, you're partially right. You do infact need a directory but your picture has to be hosted online. Nobody can download a picture directly from your computer over these boards.

Find a nice picture hosting site or get a friend if you know of one and they'll tell you the link to add into your profile, just make sure you put it like this:

http://mypictures.com/pictureofmine.jpg :)

Now that was an example, but when you get your image hosted that's what it'll look like when you put it in your profile. Your picture should show up on messageboards then.

Unfortunately no I don't. The one hosting my site is a friend of mine's and she doesn't like to use up all of her bandwith to post nothing but pictures. Usually what you can do is right click a person's picture, click "properties" and look at the URL of it. And go to that site.

You could try Geocities.

I got a question, why will it not let me update my profile? I make all my changes, and I hit change profile, and it does nothing! Its been pissing me off, i want to get rid of my groovy little penguin and link it to a picture of Cats (aybabtu) and it won't let me!
Did you know that cats purred when you were young?
-I didn't.
I did know that Cats says "All your base are belong to us." however.

aspiring-- that generally means that there's something wrong with your picture.  you may have the path wrong or the file could be corrupted etc etc etc, but it won't just randomly go away, you'll have to fix it somehow
Ceci n'est pas une signature.

Um Aspiring I just noticed your picture isn't a valid format! Right click it and click properties...... what kind of file is a .gi? lol I think you need to add an "f" on the end to make it a .gif, then maybe it will show up eh?  ::)

Geocities blocks images being linked to externally I think now, though there are ways of avoiding it I hear

For all of those that wish to have your sigs as pictures here a way to do it.

Usually when you sign up for an Internet Service with your ISp you get a certain amount of web space.  For example, Road Runner give everyone I think 15MB, not sure dad told me awhile ago, so look into that.  Also, for those in college see if your school allows you a webpage.  That is what I did and I post all of the pics I need for sigs there.  About using your personal computer to link your pics you would need a static IP and a web server I believe to do it properly.  I know you would need a static IP for sure but not 100% on the web server.

my email is neotrobe@yahoo.com feel free to email me or IM if you have any questions.

Pbase doesn't allow remote-linking either unfortunately.

I have heard that Liquid2k.com will do free remote-linking images, but haven't tried it.

http://www.warhamer40k.com allows remote linking if you put it in HTML. If you use any other code, you will get the evil red X box. :-X
