Soulburst
« on: July 14, 2017, 08:17:48 PM »
G'day all!
Have a question about Soulburst. Haven't bought the Gathering Storm yet and the Xenos Index is a little vague about it.
Is it ANY unit that is completely destroyed that can activate a Soulburst or just a destroyed Eldar unit?

In terms of units whose death can trigger soulburst, there are not any restrictions other than distance. Some players have put together lists that have very many small units in an attempt to trigger soulbursts from the deaths of their own units, but you can also trigger them from the deaths of enemy units.

No problem. Don't forget the restriction on more than 1 soulburst from the same unit, and distance--these are classics that get people tripped up.

Indeed, it's a destroyed unit within range (page 76, Xenos I), it doesn't have to be your own. The Index is not vague at all Saim-dann  ;)

Hi GrimSqueaker!
I just wanted to make sure. The Index says A unit that is destroyed, not any. You'd have to know a couple of gamers in my group, mate. Any rule that isn't specific is brought to question... aaaaall game unless they see it in black and white... Be well!

GW is all about tagging now. Such as at the beginning of that very rule. If they don't tag anyone's (MONSTER, TITANIC SEPT, INFANTRY, FLY, VEHICLE, TROUPE MASTER) code in afterwards, if they say a unit, they mean a unit. If your group disagrees with that then they're in for a very bad time in 8th.

There is a lot of ambiguity in the Soulburst rule, however wether all units (friend & foe)counts, it is very clear, they both do.
The FAQ also says soulburst can not be taken by a unit who's transport (which the unit is embarked upon) gets destroyed.

1. One issue to look out for, is wether you are allowed to pile when using soulburst to fight.

2. Another is if you are able to fight, if you charged in the fight phase due to a soulburst.

3. A further issue is if you consolidated into a new target and wish to fight the new target with a soulburst.

Best way is to agree on these before the game.

My take on it would be:
1. Yes, 2. No, 3. Yes
But honestly the rule is "as clear as sausage broth" IMO.
Ego in propria persona, non compos mentis.
