What's my stuff worth... for people who don't know
« on: June 27, 2005, 05:00:22 PM »
Here is a thread for people who have stuff to trade but don't know how much it's worth.
This is a continuation of the older thread by the same name here as it needed updating.

Before you consider posting here know this. 95% of all posts in the former thread was just a listing of minis currently in production. That is not what we can help you with here. If your models can still be bought from GW then you visit their homepage (http://www.games-workshop.com) and enter the online store, tally up the models you have on your list and then knock off 50% for the models if you have assembled or painted them, possibly more if you have painted them in a bad way, and a bit less if you have painted them well, and there you go. If your things are still untouched and wrapped in plastic, you can get a bit more, but never expect to sell at retail-cost. There is no need for you to post your list here just to have us tell you to do this. That is as bad as spamming.

If you have OOP (out of prodution)-stuff, or limited edition models or such, things you cannot find in GW's online store, then we can help you. That is what this thread is for. Before you post here you need to be able to provide the following.
1. Exactly how many models of each kind we are talking about.
2. What condition the models are in; MIB (mint in blister/box), still on sprues, in bits, assembled, painted (quality of paintjob) or a mix thereof.
3. If anything is damaged and/or broken.
4. Where in the world you are. If you do not provide this we can't help you with currency-conversions, and will just state the price in USD.

Example of a bad post
Quote
So I have a bunch of necron warriors and some scarabs and threedestroyers, and one of those tall thingies
You can still get this in the online store, so it does not belong here. But it is also a bad post beause of the rules.
1. No exact modelcount.
2. No condition given
3. No information, although calling the monolith "the tall thingie" is a bad omen
4. No local information.

Example of a good post
Quote
Hi. I have a limited edition Games Day 99 Marine Captain still MIB. I also have a limited eidtion High Elf Battlestandardbeare r mint but out of the box, missing the base. I live in the UK.
These are things we can help you with, and gives ample information about what is in this lot, and in what condition they are.

I have the old 2nd ed space marines (metal). All unprimed, but built. How much would they be worth each?

The armless metal bodies (torso+head+legs in one cast)? Are those it? If they are then they should be a few bucks each at least. Depending on how many you have I suggest you build "squads" if you want to get more money. 2x5 is better than 10x1 or 1x10 in this instance, since few want them as collector's pieces and noone will afford themselves to buy the lot in one go, so to speak, compared to plastics.

Does this thread apply to WFB as well?

Well, depending on how old they are (you mentioned OOP, but not which version they are) they might be out of archive, and thus rarities, and collector's pieces. This will bump the price a bit.

I have seen that model get a few bucks on ebay, abour 30 or 40 at least. I am sure you can get something like that easily. Since it is out of the box the value is dropping though. With some other models, like a Commandsquad with it as part, the value of the piece goes up as well.

It never came with a box. Came in a bag like all mail order stuff.

I saw one website selling em for $75! If I were to have if professionally painted for say, £20 do you see any chance of profit?

Yes I think you could turn that into a profit. 20 seems steep, but I think you can turn that around.

I have some WFB High Elves. They are from the previous edition: 12 Spearmen, 1 Champion and Standard Bearer Spearmen, 12 Archers and Bolt Thrower w/crew. All painted. How much do they fetch for? I also live in the US if that matters.

I think you can get 35-50% of the current rail for a lot like that, depending on how they are painted of course.

I have seen them go as low as $75, and as high as $300 with minimal prompting. You might even score more, depending on how you sell it. Ebay is a goiod exposure-point, but you risk getting lowballed.

I don't know if we can also ask for evaluation of old GW tablegames.
If not, I beg your pardon and ask you to kindly ignore my request...

I have the complete first-ed Talisman set. Mainbox plus six expansions, the rare Talisman Dragons included.

A friend of mine told me that a few months ago the same set was sold on e-bay for more than 2,000 USD.
Is it possible? It was a great game, indeed, particularly graphics were fantastic, but the amount seems a bit high...

Because, if that is the case, I'm thinking about putting it in a vault and keep it for my retirement age...

No, that is too high. I have seen it go for $100-200, and sometimes higher, but 2000 is far too optimistic, unless it is a mint game with author-signatures and that rare "Third Crown"-card in it. :)

i have some stuff, but not sure how much it is worth. let me see:

unpainted:

i have an Adeptus Mechanicus Magus, and 4x Adeptus Mechanicus engineers 3 with servo arms but one is missing. i also have an Adeptus Mechanicus Artisan (i think thats what its called!?) they are all unprimed and off their bases, out of box but in good condition (well, what can go wrong with them hey!!!??). i also have two servitors, both combat servitors i think (again, classic not new).

i also have every gamesday miniature from 2000 still in their blisters.

that will do for now.
