Dawn of War III ? Announcement Trailer - YouTube

Every time they release a new Dawn of War, I am forced to do two things.

1)  Find a chance of pants at the awesome videos they do.
2)  Cry to the heavens and wonder why GW doesn't do this level of animation for a proper 40k movie!

I messed myself by the end.  But I don't care.  ;D

I got me thinking about a 40k movie as well.  It deserves to be done.

Eldar look awesome, love the bone effect of the armour.

@Captain Calamity - there is an unltramarines animated movie
Ultramarines: A Warhammer 40,000 Movie (2010) - IMDb

Please do not speak of that heresy.  That was a travesty, and yes... I was enough of a fan boy to sit through that horror show and watch all of it.

What we want is a 40k movie that has the same level of effort put into it that they put into these cut scenes.

It's a great cut-scene. Won't be playing it (I once worked doing QA for an RTS game and it officially killed the genre for me), but it does look cool.

Seconded.  Don't watch it.  A non-scripted skirmish game of DoW has better plot and graphics :P

Back on point, the trailer for DoWIII looked epic!

Go watch it again with the reservations you would have for someone trampling your childhood.

Really... we'll wait lol

I actually thought the Ultramarines movie was mediocre... Better than some of the novels, and more than a few straight-to-video movies, but far from the best in either category. Worth a watch once, just to say you've seen it, which is more than I can say for a Tarintino movie...

This trailer though... Absolutely fantastic. I'm not entirely sold on the lankier Marines, but the design of the Eldar, and the movements of the Wraithknight were fantastic. I just can't figure out if it's supposed to have a story relevance, like the first 2 did (although, DoW1's trailer was only loosely related to its story) or if it's just atmospheric.

The 3 streams of falling bodies at the end, though? Masterfully atmospheric and great cinematography. Loved it.

For Some reason, most of my friends seem to think everything he makes is made of gold. I don't get it?

All the same, I think I'll give the Ultramarines movie a skip (have actually seen bits of it, re-enforcing my call not to watch it)

Back to DoW III, i still need to play DoW II (not that I actually have a machine that can) but I'm also going to wait till we can actually see what the gameplay will be like before forming a proper opinion on III.
At the moment, though, I'm a little sad that you'll only get Orks, Smurfs and Eldar, and the story that they're all gunning for the same super weapon seems a little flimsy (orks going for some high end super-tech just doesn't sit right with me)

The trailer looks incredible but if I am honest I am gonna be waiting for actual gameplay footage before I let myself get excited. I was really buzzing for DoW II but then it turned out to be one of the worst RTS engines that I've ever played on. If the engine is anything like the first then I'll be happy but if it's like DoW II then I won't even bother with it.

There are 3 screenshots out right now... You can see them here;

Dawn of War 3's First Screenshots Show Deadly Orbital Strikes - GameSpot

Relic has so far stated that they are aiming more for the armies and elements of Dawn of War, with the customizable heroes of Dawn of War 2.

It looks like they abandoned the DoW2 cover system too, which is a bit of a shame, but understandable if they're trying to up the scale again...

I'm ambivalent about it thus far.  The trailer was impressive in cinematic terms, but it just felt like I'd seen it before, maybe because it's a barely modified version of the trailers used for some of the previous Dawn of War games, in the sense that there is a battle and the Marines emerge victorious yet again.  I also hope that the narrative a touch more nuanced than what has been revealed thus far.

I didn't mind the change in DoW2, I thought it put in back in line to the sort of scale you would play at a table top. Large scale RTS while nice in theory just turn into who produces the largest rolling mob first, rinse and repeat each map.

I'd love to see someone mod Xcom2 to do a squad based 40k game.

I'd love to see someone mod Xcom2 to do a squad based 40k game.

There was one, called Chaos Gate. It predates XCOM by a long, long way, but can reasonably be said to be one of its predecessors.

Yeah it was a good game for its time, would be nice to see some of the other races though

Actually: Chaos Gate - 1998. Original X-Com Enemy Unknown (aka UFO Defense) - 1994. Let us not put the chaotic cart before the xenos horse here.

Either way, looking forward to DoW III. I played through 2, and it was enjoyable enough, but I long for a return to the days of the original, leading and upgrading squads on the fly.
