Title: Top Gun
Post by: The GrimSqueaker on June 6, 2022, 09:50:55 PM
Come on, what did you really expect? Nah, it's a fun romp. Doesn't take itself overly seriously and makes sure to lampshade all the old man comments. Plenty of callbacks to the original just don't turn up expecting Realism Mode. It's Top Gun after all.

Agreed.  It was a fun movie in the fantastic way that the original Top Gun was.  There is definitely more realism than what they had back in the 80s because you get to see the effects of pulling Gs on the faces of the actors, and you definitely feel the speed the aircraft are moving at.

Found some of the dialogue a bit clunky at times, and Hangman is trying too hard to be Iceman while falling well short of the mark.  I'm sorry, but no one is matching 80's Kilmer level of slick!

The combat at the end of the movie is quite an adrenaline ride, though!  I was thoroughly impressed.  They had big shoes to fill by following up the original, but man did they beslubbering nail it!

Admiral Iceman, thank you very much.

The plot is hysterically inconsistent but that's fine as a) it's Top Gun and b) They wanted to focus on the pilots again and not an entire strike package.
