Battle Report: Orks vs. Crimson Fists

A Battle between my daughter’s Space Marines and my Orks. We agreed to 50 power points, I let her take a few extra points so she could take Kantor.

Board set up; Hammer and Anvil. Scenario; No Mercy

The Crimson Fist List:
Battalion Detachment
•   Pedro Kantor
•   Captain Heroic (upgraded to Primus Captain) with Duty’s Burden
•   5 Tack marines with sergeant, one with flamer
•   5 Tack marines with sergeant , one with flamer
•   5 Tack marines with sergeant, one with flamer
•   Thunderfire cannon
•   Thunderfire cannon
Vanguard Detachment
•   Lieutenant
•   5 Sternguard marines with sergeant
•   5 Sternguard marines with sergeant
•   Dreadnought with multimelta (Note; this is the dred that killed Gazgull in a previous battle, you will note the glow in the dark medal that the dred wears)

The Orks
Battalion Detachment
•   Warboss with kombi scorcha and headwoppa
•   Warboss with kustom shoota and PK
•   10 Choppa Boys with nob with PK 
•   10 Choppa Boys with nob with Killsaw (upgraded to Ard Boys)
•   10 Shoota boys one with Big Shoota, Nob with big choppa
•   Three Trucks, with wrecking ball, grot riggers and big shootas.
Outrider Detactment
•   Warboss with Ded Shiny Shoota and PK
•   Megatrack Scrapjet
•   Megatrack Scrapjet
•   Megatrack Scrapjet ( all hereafter referred to as buggies)


I won the dice roll and elected to set up first, and I finished first, but she stole the initiative and went first. I spent command points for the extra special weapon and the unit of ard boys.

Turn ONE:  The unit of sternguard led by the LT moved forward, the unit of marines led by Kantor moved into cover, and the dread moved into cover. Both thunder cannons fired at rockit buggies both failed to cause any wounds, captain Heroic fired his dutys burden and got one wound on the warlords truck,. Everything else was out of range.

The orks surged forward. The rockit buggies opened up and caused three wounds on one of the thunderfires. One of the trucks big shootas killed a Sternguard. The ded shiny shoota caused a lot of wounds on the squad led by the marine known as Portiere. (He earned the name by holding a doorway against a hoard of orks in a past game) That and the rest of the shooting was saved by that pesky 3+ save those marines have.

Turn TWO:
The Marines pretty much stayed put. The one wounded sternguard squad curved behind the building to stay out of the charge range of the shoota boy truck. The squad led by Kantor moved up closer to cover, and the dred moved out of cover and towards the warlords truck. The tech marine repaired two wounds on the thunderfire gun. The dred fired the mutimelta at the truck and caused six wounds. The thunderfire kannons fired a bit better and caused some wounds on buggies.The dred charged the warlords truck caused one wound with three damage, and the truck swung back causing three wounds but the dred saved them all.

The Warlord and Ard Boys dismounted and the wounded truck backed up seven inches (red paint in case you were wondering). The trucks moved as close as they could towards marines, and the buggies got clear line of sight on the cannons. The grots repaired a lot of damage, almost everything that was damaged was covered with a fresh coat of red paint, and good as new. The warlords truck even got some paint covering the holes from the meltimelta.  The warlord and his ard boys shot at the dred and caused some great looking sparks from ricochets, the buggies killed off both thunderfire cannons. (a relief because those things shred boys in the open) but not the techs. Shooting from the shoota boy truck killed a marine from Portiere’s squad. Shooting pistols from the other truck killed one marine from Kantors squad. The Warboss and ard boys charged the dred, the shootaboy truck charged Portiere’s squad, and the other choppa boys truck charged the sternguard led by Captain Heroic. Overwatch in all charges did nothing. The warlord swung head woppa and caused four unsaved wounds and the nob with the PK finished off the dred. (earning first blood) We then spent a command point to loot the destroyed dred and gave the ard boys a 4+ save. (sweet, but failed to regen the command point). The shoota boy truck actually caused a wound on a marine who saved and the sternguard were not amused by the charging truck and after ducking the wrecking ball caused the truck six wounds.

Turn THREE
Kantor and his marines move around the cover and shoot a buggy causing a few wounds. The tech marine moves off the podium and joint the squad guarding him, the shot and cause a few wounds on a buggy. The sternguard led by the LT move around the building and shoot a buggy getting one wound. Kantor and his squad charge the warlord and overwatch does nothing. Kantor causes six wounds on the warlord but the cybork saves one wound. The rest of the marines kill one ard boy. Captain Heroic and his sternguard cause a few more wounds to the truck. The other tech marine moves to the bottom floor and charges the truck failing to cause any wounds. Portiere and his squad joined by the LT’s sternguard do some wound but the truck saves them all.

The shoota boys and boss disembark and the truck moves back nine inches. The choppa boys disembark and the truck moves back seven inches. The rockit buggies move to get clear line of sight on the squad on the temple, and the sternguard. A buggy fires at the squad on the temple and gets one wound, and the marine makes a 6+ cover save. The other buggies target sternguard units. The one buggie gets one sternguard from Captain Heroics squad, and the other buggie targeted the LT and caused 15 wounds on him. The LT disappeared in a vapor cloud of red juice mixed with ceramite (and earned a point). Sergeant “Gunny” took charge of the squad. The shoota boys open up on Portiere’s squad and with a massive amount of shooting from all concerned killed only one marine. The sluggas from the choppa boys did better than the shootas, causing some wounds but the sternguard saved them all. The shoota boys charged the Gunny’s sternguard squad and Portiere’s squad, overwatch killed one boy. The warboss with the ded shiny shoota did finally kill sergeant Portiere, by directing all his attacks on him. The boys killed two sternguard. Gunny and his other sternguard killed two boys, and the other two marines killed two boys. The choppa boys charged in and the boss directed all his attacks on Captain Heroic. That pesky iron halo kept him from getting squished. The nob and the boys kill two sternguard and a lucky choppa boy causes one wound on captain Heroic. The marines swing back causing one wound on the boss and killing one boy. Meanwhile on the other side Kantor kills the warlord (earning slay the warlord and a point) The ard boys kill off the rest of the marines (earning a point). Everybody everywhere passed all the LD checks.

Turn FOUR
Kantor moves out of contact and then advances to join the squad on the temple. The tech marine moves out of the building and around the side. The tech shoots at a buggy and gets a wound. The squad on the temple shoots at the other buggy and gets a wound. The tech marine charges the buggy and overwatch misses. Meanwhile back in the middle, captain Heroic causes three wounds on the boss and then the two sterguard kill two boys. The boss wiffs bad only causing one wound and that pesky iron halo kicked in again. The boys and the nob kill off the last two sternguard (and earn a point) meanwhile Gunny and his last sternguard kill off three boys, and the two other marines each got a boy. The boys swung back and got one marine and one sternguard. The tech marine and the buggy slap at each other. All the LDs were passed by thin margins.

All the trucks and buggies move towards the last unengaged marines in the temple. The ard boys start climbing the stairs to assault. Combined rockit fire, big shoota fire and slugga fire all combined only kill one marine. The ard boys charge, and wiff, the nob causes three wounds on the tech marine. The marines, the tech marines and Kantor proceed to kill the nob and six of the boys. (that reroll misses that Kantor has sure paid off) The ard boys failed their LD and the last three ran away (and earned a point). The marines consolidated.  The shoota boys and their nob kill the last two marines of Portiere’s squad (Point) and the shoota boss killed Gunny (another point) and consolidated towards the tech marine and buggy fight. Captain Heroic killed the warboss and then made all his saves from the choppa boys that tried to avenge the boss.

Turn FIVE
Kantor and his team move down the steps towards a truck and buggy. The tech marine shoots the buggy taking its last wounds and it explodes. The explosion caused a wound on the truck and a marine and the tech marine. The marine next to the tech dies and the tech loses his last wound and dies (giving me another point). Kantor and his team charge the truck and kill it. And consolidate back towards the temple. Captain Heroic kills two more boys and loses one wound in return. The other tech marine causes a wound for three damage on the buggy. The boys passed their LD.

The lone buggy and two trucks head towards Kantor. The buggy kills off a marine, leaving the sergeant  and Kantor. The shoota boss his nob and the last two shoota boys charge the tech marine. One truck charges the sergeant and the other truck charges Kantor. The shoota boss makes quick work of the tech marine (another point) and one truck kills the sergeant (another point). Kantor saved both wounds from the truck and kills the truck (and gets a point). Meanwhile in the center Captain Heroic kills the nob and then saves all the wounds from the choppa boys. The choppa boys make their LD.

The dice roll said game over. The orks were mighty disappointed when the telly porta beam took dem humies out of reach.

Orks 10   Marines 7 (not to mention that there were only two marines left on the board, Captain Heroic had two wounds left and Kantor had one wound left)

A Great Victory for the orks(and lots of witnesses too)

The nob who had been next to the shooty boss all battle, went over to go pick up the ead whoppa, The warboss told him to drop it, all the bosses who pick it up seems to get themselves killed. The nob picked up the axe and said “won’t happen to me, cuz I is better at swinging axes, just changin dis here big choppa for a bigger big choppa”. The shooty boss just laughed.

Nice report--thanks!

Wow, what a bloodbath. I can see why you love Trukks, though--your opponent only brought one antitank weapon! Tell her to get some lascannons (or even missile launchers) ASAP and see how your tune changes.  ;)

Great write-up Skeeter.  It looks like the only Crimson Fists left were the blood covered ones on the Orks that day.

The rematch.

Taking Wyddr's advice; She changed her list as follows
Replaced the two thunderfire cannons with a devastator squad with 4 rockits and another dred with multi melta.

Each of the flamers became melta's. (She did not have the models so we proxied the meltas) And gave one stern guard squad a rockit launcher.

Same scenario and set up. The battle actually went six turns

Rather than a whole detailed batrep, just a few comments. The orks won again 8 to 5. The marines did kill two warbosses including the warlord with ead whoppa, and two squads of boys. The orks did get Captain Heroic this time, and decimated the marines again. Of note, all three buggies targeted the devastators and killed them all off in turn one earning me first blood.

Another dirty trick I used was to keep the trucks in combat with the marines so they could not fire overwatch at the disembarked boys.

At the end, the warboss with PK, the choppa boy nob with PK, and 7 choppa boys survived, as well as all three trucks and all three buggies. Unfortunately that pesky Kantor got away again. One of the choppa boys snuck over and looted the ead whoppa, because the nob had heard that the ead whoppa was bad luck to the owner.

 MVP of the game went to the three buggies who killed the devastators,both dreds, and most of Kantor's stern guard squad. 

One thing we discovered is that you can no longer use krak grenades in combat to kill vehicles. Let me know if we got this wrong as the marines might have killed a truck or two if they could have used krak grenades on the vehicles in CC.

The extra anti tank weapons were not the big help that we had hoped. So, we will play again with less scenery to see if that makes a difference.So far the orks have been keeping Rynns world well under siege.
