IA11 Corsairs Grievances and Discussion

Corsair List Grievances

I thought this is a good idea now we all are a bit more experienced.

My line of attack is this:
- State what your grievance is with the list (eg. weapon costs, lack of bikes for Prince/Seer/Voidstorms)
- We will investigate through playtesting and see to what extent that grievance is valid
- If it is valid we will add it to a wall of grievances yet to be disproven (as science is never about proving, only trying to disprove)

Format:

Grievance statement
Elaboration

eg.

Corsairs should have boltguns
because we are cool

It will then be added to the list with a number. When debating use the following format:

1) Corsairs with boltguns is ridiculous
2) Rangers are OP
3) We have enough dakka on Corsairs

The List:

1) The Prince cannot take a 2H ranged weapon along with his pistol and CCW

2) Venoms should be more durable or ammended appropriately. (they are the right price, see point 15 for better proposal)

3) The Void Dreamer has no option to take plasma Grenades

4) The Prince is overcosted (he needs to have Sky Raiders and Void Strike as upgrades not base)

5) Rangers/Pathfinders should have been included as a 3rd troops option with a 0-2 limit and with Uncertain Allies

6) Kabalite Warriors should not have been made 0-1.

7) Very limited options for IC's riding in transports.  Not only can they not be deployed in uncertain allied units, but only a prince can ride in a venom, assuming it is with a blade sworn squad.

8 ) Princes not just Void Dreamers should be able to take Webway Portals

9) Paying points to swap blade sworn weapons (lasblaster, shuriken catapults).

10) Voidstorms need a reform. They should not be Elites, they should have bikes, they should be Troops.

11) The Void Dreamer and Prince should be able to take Eldar Jetbikes

12) The Phoenix is overcosted

13) The Void Dreamer powers Spiritshield and Soul Scry need to be changed

14) The Firestorm is overcosted.

15) Holofields are ridiculously overpriced but should vary in cost depending on the vehicle (eg. 12 pts on a Corsair Venom)

Pick something, shoot it, counter propose, counter hypothesise and we will all continue investigating.

Eg.

2) The Corsair Venom is apropriately costed, consider a DE Venom and consider that a flickerfield costs 10pts. A DE Venom - flickerfield = Corsair Venom
3) Does the Void Dreamer need Plasma grenades? It is based off a Farseer statline
4) Take an Autarch, I estimate 20 points for being able to Void Strike, then add Sky Raiders. You will find he adds up fine. The problem is we dont have a choice. Void Strike and Sky Raiders should be hero upgrades like a targetting beacon etc
5) Rangers should have a seperate unit entry but be Elites and 0-1. The Troops section is already overloaded. We need more and better Elites.
6) Agree but Kabalites should be 0-2 not any greater you might as well play DE.
7) Agree, we need a transport for Harlies + IC, reduce min size of Harlies from 5 to 4
8 ) Agree, Archons can take them
9) Bladesworn need to be able to take Flamers, Fusion Guns, Power Weapons (5pts), Dire Avenger Shuriken Catapults
10) Voidstorms should be an upgrade for Corsairs like Storm Guardians are to normal Defender Guardians
11) Agree
12) Do not agree but the Phoenix missile launcher needs a higher Str
13) Remove those psychic powers altogether and add new ones
14) Do not agree. Expensive but not overcosted.

7) Disagree, mainly because Corsairs can take Falcons as transports.  But I also have issue with Eldar using Venoms.  Harlequins and Dark Eldar yes but not Craftworld Eldar and their associates.  Eldar are simply to clever and in their own minds, to valuable to waste lives on what amounts to a death chariot.  Any Enermy commander in their right mind is going to try to blow a venom out of the sky before it even makes contact and it's not really that hard.  This is why the Eldar have developed their assaults beyound the basic level of charge out of open top missile, it's just not sophisticated and one sided enougth for them, these are the sort of people who either ambush you out of nowhere or hit you with the sort of armoured assault that makes a Space Marine think twice, they harry and stalk their prey, they dont just charge it down like some over emotional ork strapped to the back of an engine. (Apologies to every other race and player who may have found that a bit arrogant but these are Eldar we're talking about here, why do it simple when you can do it the smart but complicated way.)
