i've been getting very useful info. on SM novels in the SM forum,

So lets put our knowledge on IG novels for others to look at, what we thought about them and such forth

I was wondering if anybody read Redemption Corps and what they thought about it

out of the IG novels i've read winter rebellion and desert raiders, which both i thought were very decent novels

I've read Gaunt's Ghosts and I've found them very enjoyable. I've also read the ones you've already listed except for Redemption Corps. Never heard of that one, but I've read all the novels that are similar in size to Rebel Winter and Desert Raiders. Fifteen Hours I found to be really good, but Death World was a bit below average, but it was still a good read. Double Eagle is also a Dan Abnett novel for air combat for the Phantine XX, which are an IG regiment comprised of only flyers. You'll have to read the book to find out why.  ;D
I'd advise reading the Ciaphas Cain novels, which add humor to the sci-fi action already present in a 40k novel.

The only Imperial guards novels I've enjoyed would be the Gaunt's ghost series as well as Ciaphas Cain. It may be that I'm more familiar with with the characters so it's easier to the follow the story but novels like Desert Raiders, Death World, Rebel Winter, 15 hours were forgettable for me.

Last Chancers was a decent series. I prefer the first novel "13th Legion" to the rest of them though.

13th being my favorite

Oh one that hasn't been mentioned are the new books from Henry Zou

Well let me think....

Guants Ghost....thing is there has been a good amount of hit and miss for me. I liked the first 3 then you hit "Necropolis" which had some horrible writeing in it. Its not his best work so i stay away from it as much as i can considering its ugh at time. Then for some reason i only really liked about half of "Straight Silver" the whole cabin in the woods cheap C horror movie deal was a little unbearable at points. Then you get into the next few novels which i just hated for one "Traitor General" I'm sorry but the guard other then storm troopers maybe are not the dirty dozen. So no i can't stand it. I mean theres only one real mass attack scene then it still didn't make up for the utter sillyness of it. Then one would think i would like "The Armour of Contempt" with all the mass guard action but no it was a little bit of bad writing and i just the setting of it so i want to leave it alone.

Then my next guard novel was "Rebel Winter" which i enjoyed one of the better writen ones.
"Desert raiders" now while i enjoyed the action of the novel and it was written welll i have a major problem with one of the sub-plots in the novel basicly due to where i was born and i know what that isssue is really like.

Then i found "Ice Guard" which like traitor general had maybe one good huge battle scene and well i'm sorry the guard don't feel like a b rated action flick about 12 dudes and ladies. I mean if it was storm troopers then i would be more incline to believe it.

"Death World" Yeah by this point i decided to give up on the guard novels after reading another dirty dozen guard story. Yes no I mean come on even if they are catachan's they are still guardsmen.

"15 hours" was poorly writen in some points so i wouldn't say its a good read.

"Gunheads" from what i've read so far has some great tank battles in it so it wasn't as bad has i would of thought.

I agree the only Last chancers novel i really liked was the first one. The other two got a little repeative. What i mean the second was alright but still to much dirty dozen action. I mean the last one was believeable with the guys been wither down from battle after battle. Yet the third one jumped the ship and went to a whole other world it was just that werid and left an ugh feeling in me.

The last novel i've read was "Cadian blood" which while it has its problems i found somewhat of an enjoyable read. Keep me into it and was basicly a nice read to clear the mind.

There is a saying: yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift. That is why it is called the "present".

I have to say I like "Redemption Corps", it has a nice twist at the end. I'm still a few pages short of the end but seeing an Inq Stormtrooper vs IG Stormtrooper to say in a way was funny to see...Professionall y speaking. If your a fan of Blackhawk Down your going to like this book, as some of the missions these guys take on are wicked.....

Bloody Spesh Mareens.  It's a conspearicy! >:(

Right, now about the guard books:

The gaunt's ghosts novels are mostly good IMHO, except for Necropolis.  In particular that section in the command room:

General: ''oh dear, my tactics are failing.  Better start shooting up the place!'' :P

But as said before, how does an under strength, skirmishing guard regiment do so well?

Cadain Blood is OK, but I hate how every line is a line, or even a speech.

I've read a number...

I enjoyed Cadian Blood thoroughly, damn the issues.

I also liked Gunheads.  It was my favorite so far, but that's not saying too much I suppose. You see I'm a real life tanker, and any tanky things are too familiar.

Death World was weak, and Winter Rebel I didn't like either.

As for the Gaunts Ghost series, haven't read one...well I read Double Eagle (I don't particularly trust the Air Force...but that's ok, book was a good read)

Gaunt's Ghosts, as has been said.  Abnett's a damn good writer, and he created some great characters.  My only complaint is that he kills half of them off...

Ciaphas Cain novels always struck a chord with me.  There's something unique about humor and cowardice in the 41st millenium.

Gunheads was pretty good.  Better than most BL fiction, I thought.  Pick it up and give it a read.

Last Chancers...Gav Thorpe should be banned from writing.  Ugh.  I forced myself to read them, and while I was pretty proud of my ability to endure, I wouldn't wish that on anyone else.

Death World was mediocre.  Not particularly good, but not bad, either.  If you come across it, go for it.  Don't waste time and money trying to track it down though.

Fifteen Hours I don't really remember, it's been a few years.  I don't think I was a huge fan of it.

I just started reading Flesh and Iron and haven't really gotten into it yet, but that's more me than the book not being interesting.

Hope this helps.
