I borrowed this from my friend and finished it on friday. I have always liked the BL books, and this was the first fantasy one I have read.

The writing is brilliant, and the characters have lots of characters. The first book, trollslayer, does have links to the new warriors of chaos army book. The troll dies halfway through, yet the other two have their name's kill right where it should be, a chapter from the end.

Felix does seem to get lucky pretty often as well.

Rating: 8/10

I didn't enjoy the first two all that much. They really show signs of being his early books, and I'm not fond of the linked short story format. The writing does pick up once you get on to the second omnibus though. I'm reading Vampireslayer at the moment and thoroughly enojying it.
Now hollow fires burn out to black, and lights are guttering low:
Square your shoulders, lift your pack, and leave your friends and go.
Oh never fear, man, nought’s to dread, look not to left nor right:
In all the endless road you tread, there’s nothing but the night.

Bill King is a very talented writer. I really enjoyed all the 7 books that he wrote about Gotrek and Felix. I think he fleshed the heroes out very well and we really get a nice feel for them. I love the comical moments as well - the humour is very good.

I think that Grey Seer Tanquol is also priceless in here, and it's no surprise that the Grey Seer is one of the most popular Black Library Fantasy characters - he is funny, he is evil, he is exceptionally cunning, and he is often unlucky.

I think that indeed the very first book was a bit raw, but nevertheless it was still very good. Out of the 7 books, the one that I enjoyed the least was the Vampireslayer (I am just not a fan of Vampires), but I would still say that the whole series is simply amazing. My favorite book was the Skavenslayer. I can't wait for Bill King to return to the Black Library and start releasing great Warhammer books once again.
