Your Heavy Support
« on: July 22, 2002, 08:25:08 PM »
well down here at my store which i don't get to goto to often (that maybe because it 100km away :() we have 750 point battles

so your heavy support is very important and in most it is too so well what i want you tell me is choice.

carinfexs ca be devsating however more often than not they can not get into range

borivers i have seen many people on different sites say how important these lovely little critters are so just tell me what you think

zonethorpes i have seen many site preaching the evils of these creature however i don't know why?

sorry guys i tried finding the sites but no such luck.

well my army is not finshed yet 8) but when it is i will have four canifexs all with sything talons and here are the options Rending Claws, Barbed Strangler, Vennom Cannon and Death Spitter
Rending Claws- for a cheap canifex as a destaction and as CC monster
Barbed Strangler- (the one i have) well if you see a group of men boom there gone a veichle coming you way boom it's gone however it can't handle the exterly armoured things like SM and Land Raiders.
Vennom Cannon- well it's the closest thing to a long range weapon and always keeps your carnifex a threat however the weapon it's self keeps from doing any real damage it can slow down veichles but often doesn't destroy them
Deathspitter-this is just about the only way you will get a half deceient weapon with no setback (only glacing hits) so this is really our only true s10 weapon

Biovours-well this a (as far as i think) the greatest thing sense sliced bread the man problem for my nids is get to the enemy cause some of the time they will punch up into a hard to reach place so if you start bombing them
or they will not stay bunched up when they see you have them.
Acid- got to love the marine killing goodness or getting  those pesky eldar in the green like shells or the tau grrr.
but there so expensive!!! so in tornaments is genrally a no no.
Posion- ahh my favotive they can damage any infantry and they have really good AP for nids there great for taking out the meduim troops (most aspect warriors and tau fire warriors ect.) and high toughness creatures.
also exelent for keep pesky speeder and bikes from making the hit and run attacks
Frag- exelent for taking out the IG or Eldar troops

Zonethorpes- love the Vechile killing goodness and oh love the death of the SM also they can keep order in your broods and if you really want can severly take down ld or make shore your broods always get an attack.
however there short range and have a habit of being instantly killed.

well tell me your choice

if you could only have one (in a battle) which one and why (like 750 point battle in my store)
and your overview on the different HS

For 750 points I would have to recommend the Carnifex. Partly because your foes may struggle to have enough big guns to stop it getting to its destination and partly because it makes a very impressive shooting platform with either a Barbed Strangler or a Venom Cannon.

Biovores are good, particularly against foes with open-topped vehicles. They would be the second choice, usually with Poison mines.

Zoanthropes can be very effective with Warp Blast and when they get into range they can be even more of a threat than a Carnifex to a Space Marine. However, if there aren't other really tough targets to fire at (in 750 points there wont be many) then they will likely be destroyed before getting to do anything.

Your army with four Carnifices doesn't fit into a standard force organisation chart. Three heavy support options are usually the limit.

I rarely field a carnifex in an army list of 1500 points or less anymore.  It just seems to me that the carnifex does not impact a large enough area of the battlefield to justify the point cost.  For slightly more than a carnifex with barbed strangler/venom cannon and extended carapace you can either get 3 biovores or 3 zoanthropes.  If you are able to screen your biovores behind terrain, they become much harder to kill than a carnifex - your opponent has to go through your army to get them - and with their 48" range they normally affect every possible area of conflict on the battlefield.   Zoanthropes, while having a shorter range and needing LOS, are tougher to kill than biovores and have a great weapon with the warp blast.

In a 750 pt force I would take 1-2 of both biovores and zoanthropes.  I'd also take a Tyrant with venom cannon to fulfill the role of 'Big Target' to draw fire from the zoanthropes.  The VC Tyrant is slightly more expensive than a similar carnifex, and also provides synapse to surrounding creatures.
The Tyranids are the most rapidly evolving race in the galaxy.  They are super-predators destined to hunt all others to extinction.

Actually, there's another option: Warriors with heavy weapons (and/or wings). I've considered Venom Cannon Warriors with Wings to take out sensitive targets...

Modified are frowned upon?!? That's like trying to play DE using the BBB!

The 2002 GT asks for Tyranids without variant species for some reason.

DE using the BBB are not so bad. 35 point Raiders and millions of Lascannons. Just don't plan on the HQ being quite so potent and all is well.

In a 750 point game Old One eye is probobly best for these reasons:

1. Extremely hard to kill ecpecialy when your opponent will have little room for tanks.
2. kills entire squads easily when in hand to hand and this is obviously very vouable in small battles.
3. THE THING LOOKS COOL!!! well i am an eldar player as well affter all
