Title: 10th 40KOnline UK Tournament - OFFICIAL Tournament Thread!
Post by: Shas'Oink on May 16, 2011, 09:48:59 AM
Right lads!

The last tournament was a great success, and g00gle5 surprise objectives on the day really went down well! So, without further delay, lets get some more detailed informaiton out about the 10th Tournament!!!

When/where is it?:
so, the 10th tournament will be held on:

Sunday 21st August 2011
There are 30 gamer places!!!

Due to being messed around at the last minute by the Landlord, there has been a changed to the originally anounced venue. Bracknell Forest Gamers will continue with the organisation of the event but it will take place at Triple Helix Wargames . Please note that the new venue allows for an increased capacity so we are proud to announce that there are now 30 gamer places!

EVENT PACK (http://www.bfgclub.org.uk/40k%20Online.html)
www.triplehelixwargames.co.uk (http://www.triplehelixwargames.co.uk)

PLEASE NOTE THAT AS BFG ARE HAVING SOME ISSUES WITH THEIR CURRENT ISP - THE PACK CAN ALSO BE FOUND HERE (http://bracknellforestgamers.wordpress.com/events/40k-online-tournament/)

Unit 3 Commerce Business Centre
Commerce Close
West Wilts Trading Estate
Westbury
Wiltshire
BA13 4LS

How to get there by car
Triple Helix is just a 5 minute drive from the A350 between Trowbridge and Westbury and only a 35 minute drive from Junction 17 of the M4.

To reach them by car coming from the North come off the M4 at junction 17 and head south on the A350 towards Chippenham. Follow the A350, signposted to Poole all the way until you pass a set of traffic lights in the village of West Ashton.

Follow the A350 down the hill towards Hawkeridge and Westbury. At the mini roundabout with the petrol station on go straight over. Go under the railway bridge and at the roundabout take the first exit. Follow this road for approx 1 mile. Turn right into the West Wilts Trading Estate. Take the first left into Commerce Close and immediately right into the car parking area. Triple Helix is the third building on the right hand side.

How to get there by train/bus
Westbury is a mainline station on the London Paddington to Exeter route, stopping at Reading, Newbury and Taunton. It is also on the mainline between Cardiff and Portsmouth stopping at Southampton, Salisbury and Bath.

Triple Helix is an 1 hour, 20 minute train journey from London and only 20 minutes from Bath. If you are coming at the weekend and may need to wait a while for a bus (we can arrange to pick people up from the station if needed)!

By bus the 264/265 which will drop you a 1 minute walk from the front door. This runs between Bath and Warminster hourly during the week and every 2 hours on the weekend. The bus also runs direct from Westbury train station.

What time?:
We are going to be looking for an early start... the earlier we start, the better! Don't worry, you will be able to grab hold of some coffee from the canteen there, and if travelling far then you can also consider overnight arrangements.

8:30 - 6:30pm.

We are allowing a little more time this year in order to help avoid having to rush any games and take some of the stress out of the day!

How much?:
As before, we are offering an incentive to pre-book tickets and secure your place. Tickets will be open to forum members to pre-buy. After the pre-buy time, tickets will be available to non-forum members at a standard cost.

TICKET PRICE
12 - For advance tickets purchased up until August 2011
15 - for tickets bought in August (including tickets sold at the door on the day)

Tickets may be available to buy on the day, but will operate on a first come first serve basis.

Paypal is via:  club@bfgclub.org.uk

If booking please put on the Paypal for each ticker
Forum Name
Real Name
Army

If you are a BFG regular, or will be seeing MacVurrich then you can pay him direct with cash. Additionally, any remaining tickets on sale on the day can be bought at the door with cash.

If you would like to pay by another method (such as direct transfer or cheque) then please contact us beforehand.

REFUNDS: Policy TBC

In the past, if you required a refund and this was 1 month prior to the event then you would be refunded your ticket price (minus any Paypal handling charges).
Less than one month notice and you would get 50% of your ticket price unless a reservist was willing to take your ticket in your stead.
Less than two weeks would result in no refund (50% if a reservist was found).

If we have a reserve list with people waiting to buy up tickets then we will make arrangements to refund what we can as highlighted above once your place has been booked by someone else.

Any questions, just ask.

What will you need?:

The games:
We will hopefully get 4x games in over the day.

The format for these will be confirmed in a tournament pack which is available to download from the BFG website. See the link above. This pack will also detail all the games and rules etc.

The armies:

please look through the above, its all subject to change according to our concensus.

We will be using the 5th Edition 40k rules at this tournament.

the prizes:
as before there are no real prizes up for grabs some nice certificates!

Gold
Silver
Bronze

Best Army

if we want some more then put forward your ideas!!

the winner will be decided throughout the course of the tournament... the scoring of which will be decided through an overly complicated and gizmotronic spread sheet developed by the devil himself.

Nearest Hotels
As mentioned, because of the early start some of you may want to consider overnight accomodation for the day before. The following are recommended on the Triple Helix Wargames website;

The Garden Hotel (http://www.thegardenhotel.co.uk)
Cedar Hotel (http://www.cedarhotel-wiltshire.co.uk)
Lopes Arms Hotel (http://www.lopesarmshotel.co.uk)

Redwood Lodge  (http://www.redwoodlodgeuk.com/contact.htm)
Crossways Guest House (http://www.crosswayswestbury.co.uk)

Whos coming?

At the moment we are taking names for the interest list. As soon as tickets become open for sale we will first offer them to those on that list. Tickets will become available in the near future once we can confirm all details. Stay tuned

First

This is a somewhat hesitant reserve, because we're going away for a month this summer and we haven't booked tickets home yet. However, all things being equal, I shall make it.

STOP PRESS!

Due to an unforseen screwing over it will be necessary to alter the date and venue.

We are looking to change the date to the 13th AUGUST (saturday before). The 27th AUGUST (saturday after) is also a potential possibility if the majority would prefer that... but speak now or forever hold your peace.

The new venue is looking like it will be "Triple Helix Wargames", near Bath (I hear much rejoicing from the Bristolonians!)

MORE DETAILS AND CONFIRMATIONS WILL FOLLOW

Right well after researching I have to say I'd prefer the later date (27th Aug) as that wedding I mentioned is on the 13th...... :(

Venue change seems to be good though which is something

[bias]Plus it'll give people 2 extra weeks of painting time [/bias]

Oh, the potential venue will also allow us to have up to 30 gamers!

Any more votes for the 27th !!??

Post by: popsical on May 17, 2011, 05:26:40 PM
13th is better for me by far, 27th is too near back to school for my kids.
The venue isnt a bother to me, although an over night in the area would be a possibility.

Post by: Shas'Oink on May 17, 2011, 05:58:56 PM
well, despite having agreed the date the church hall where it is "normally" held have decided that they are now not free during August... BFG inform me that the deposit will be returned to them. The potential venue is somewhere that they have used in the past for some other events.

Its a bit further than Bracknell, thats for sure (unless your from that side of the country, and probably about half from last time were) - but it shouldn't be too difficult to drive to (be sure to have a sat nav)!

Take a look at some of the pics on their website na dfacebook page... looks like they have anice array of scenery which should make for good looking tables!

I'll say it's a possibility, certainly interested. Depends on how much it'd cost to get there, my job, and my misus, who believes the idea of travelling next door to play toy soliders is ridiculous, nevermind to Bristol.

updated initial post with more information on the venue - including "local" overnights. as mentioned - people should make themselves heard if they cannot attend either one of the proposed dates, and then we will go with th eone that affects the fewest. (!)

Errrr, why does the date have to change?
Both of them are bad for me, though the new location is excellent.

If it must be one or the other then the 27th is my choice, but my missus won't be happy.

I'm good with either date and the venue is great :D
I'd planned to head over to Triple-Helix in the next few weeks to have a look around anyway, so I can check it out for us.

Although the location looks great it's tripled my journey time.

I can't do the 13th, but the 27th is do-able.

I'll do some checking with the better half, and a mate I could stay with.  I'll let you know in the next day or so.

27th is out for me. I have a larp event to go to. 13th is a yes.

Given the above info I will assume that if it changes to the 27 th that it is only because you don't want to get your arses kick by yours truly.  ;D

Yea, unfortunately we are unable to have the 20th at that venue. So we propose the week before , or the week after. So far, it looks as though the 27th is better for most people (we will ignore Tarrins comments!)  :P

So, after just a few days we are at the 50% mark for spaces (thanks to now being able to get 30 gamers!) I will be sending out pms to others which have been part of the event in the past but have not found this thread yet...

Steve, THW

LOL just clocked that we have a chap from triple helix wargames here!?!

@ Dizz, Dan (of BFG) has been able to pencil in the dates with THW already - Dan tells me they have used that venue in the past and so know what to expect and how things work there. They are able to give a great deal on the price, at short notice, which means that we do not need to increase the cost of the tickets whilst still being able to invite more gamers!

be aware, that although the venue is different, the event will still be arranged by BFG. It would be unfair on BFG, and the work their members have gone through so far to decide on another venue altogether.

However, when we all meet up at the tourney - or on the forums after it, we can look at all our options for the next tournament if you like. What do you think Dizz?

If it's a done deal already then fair enough. I thought it was actually the dates rather than the place that was causing people the most problems, hence the offer.

Sounds good. The Bristol tournament scene is in excellent health, so getting hold of the 40kO for a stint would be great fun.

I'll be there, but for the first time I won't be playing.

I'll be shouting at people. Telling them what to do. Where to go. Who their next opponent is. Let them know when they get in my way, if I don't like their jive or if they need to look prettier.

I'll even think of a fun scoring system.

No preference on date; I think.

Just ot add to the sotry and Oink updates
We at BFG we're informed on our Game Night Monday by the Church bookings officer (who was fumin as well) that he had been informed that they (the church) would need to reserve the hall for the WHOLE of August on the provision that they were expecting a special day and so WE had to be bumped @;'#* '' .

Triple Helix have an event on the 20th else they would do the same day.
I've worked with them and thought that at such short notice that they would be a good bet

Maybe that's why she's the ex!?

Also, I am updating the first thread to show that tickets are now on sale and you can buy your ticket through Paypal.

The date will be confirmed shortly - please note that it looks like we will be going with Saturday the 27th as it seems this only affects Tarrin. Whilst we would like him there, he clearly feels that larping is more fun - which is queer. (Tarrin, feel free to whack me with a rubber sword at your soonest convenience   :P)

There is one other possibility - The Boss of THW has offered that we could have the SUNDAY the 21st if people feel they are unable to move weekends? Now, I know previously we had all agreed that saturdays were generally better than sundays but if anyone would prefer to keep the same weekend as initially proposed, and go with sunday then we can do that too...

SPEAK NOW!

Due to August being a month of major work commitments, its too tricky. Also not helped that my IG force hasn't recovered from its partial theft when loaned a few years back.

Getting paid enough to replace the loss (and more) by October but not before then :(

LOL... you guys are useless! just checked the results so far... and there are 2 votes for each date! lol!!! you see, this is exactly why the alternative vote should have got through! well, we have a few days before the voting runs out so make your vote heard.

be sure to say in this thread if there is a date you definately cannot do - that way, if there is a tie between two dates (or three) then I can make the final decision based on the people I like most least affected.

You can fly into Bristol, bus into Bristol centre to stay the night and then one train (40 mins) to Westbury. I'll be getting the train in. Unless another friendly Bristolian is driving there...

Heh, bagsie a lift from Hymen!!

Just reading the pack and confused by the scoring: 0 points for a loss but 1 point for conceding. So you can play to the bitter end and get 0 points but give in early and get 1 point? Seems odd...

I'll reserve a spot for myself ;)

Guess gaming abroad is much more fun then gaming in the Netherlands  :P

I'll know for 100% sure next weekend if I can come, due to roster changes at work.
I presume it's not a big deal if there's a spot reserved for a week?

@Hymirl: Hope your not renting that van again :P

And seeing as the new roster places me on night shifts that day...  I can't skip out with taking 1 day off -.-

So I'll just look foreward to seeing some of you at some future tournie and getting beat/beating :P

I am still without a challenger for my first game... which is not that surprising based on just how beslubbering awesome i am  ;D

OK, Tarrin has successfully badgered me into signing up. I gather the thing to do now is to message MacVurrich, send the payment and download the pack yes?

25 years of playing with toy soldiers and this will be my first tournament. Looking forward to putting some faces to usernames.

I'll be fielding nids I expect, as they are my most regularly played and best painted these days, although I'll need to build them up a bit, as I usually play them at 1500. Could also go with Dark Angels. Sadly the Dark Eldar are unlikely to be in a fit state to be seen in public by August.

And no, I won't be accepting the Tarrin challenge. I play him enough as it is, and his dice-fondling offends me.

Mac, I'm sure you made a slight mistake - as it sounds like BFG were covering my entry fee... FYI - I sent payment yesterday via paypal - so if you could double check for me that that actually went through (as my papal farted at me by trying to claim that I couldn't use one card then saying that it couldn't complete the payment with the other - but then showed up the transaction in the recent transactions list)...

I'll update the initial post.

Since the Stormraven rules were printed in WD, I've been using one in my C:SM army with opponents' permission.
I assume I won't be able to do this during the tournament?

I'm actually fine with this. We allow Forgeworld within reason so White Dwarf things are fine.

If anybody has any reasons why we shouldn't allow this, speak up now.

I might have a stupendous, ridiculously good-looking Grey Knight army by August, so debating going against my idea of not playing this time round... we'll see if the army is ready by then.

Regarding the WD storm raven rules, do they state:
A) space marine armies can have SR?
B) space wolf armies can have SR?
C) black templar armies can have SR?
D) CSM armies can have SR?
E) sisters of battle can have SR?
I'm not saying no to the issue, I am curious as to which armies the SR is available to and how many the organisers will allow it for.
I think we could end up with SR overload, the ceastus assault ram is a similar piece of kit and is restricted on army use, does the SR have similar restrictions?
Thoughts?

The stormraven isn't actually that great, if you think of it as a Valkyrie that costs twice as much, its put in perspective somewhat. And while its faster than a land raider on paper in practice it's not significantly quicker at getting stuff into combat.
Title: Re: 10th 40KOnline UK Tournament - OFFICIAL Tournament Thread!
Post by: Lorizael on June 8, 2011, 07:26:26 AM
It just has the rules and points costs etc on a page of WD with no talk of which codexes may use it.

And no it's not that great. Just something a bit fun which fits in well with my army so I like to use it.
Title: Re: 10th 40KOnline UK Tournament - OFFICIAL Tournament Thread!
Post by: popsical on June 8, 2011, 09:11:25 AM
The SR does change the dynamic of certain codexs tho, consider the chaos dreadnaught which it makes infinately better by removing the drawbacks and its speed.
Could a sisters player field one and transport a penitent engine? Just as plausible and removes similar flaws from a unit.
Like I say I am not fussed, but we should consider its effect on a broad spectrum of units and codexs balance before the tournie.

Title: Re: 10th 40KOnline UK Tournament - OFFICIAL Tournament Thread!
Post by: popsical on June 8, 2011, 12:37:15 PM
@ iridescent, one of the other problems with csm and the SR is that csm can combine units like the demon prince with the SR. Marine players cant deliver fast MCs to the target alongside the embarked troops.
One could forward a list which didnt contain DP's stating that the chapters heroes had not been worshippers long enough to reach demonhood and that the SR's had not been lost into disrepair. Combining this with the army being of a type like the Soul Drinkers, and so they have no dreadnaughts also, but are a ship based chapter recently sided with chaos. Fluff has its uses when army designing, but i have found adding disadvantages to even out the playing field helps both sides come to terms with unusual combinations.
The SR brings many advantages to any list its put into, the csm dex has a few units which when combined with it gain advantages other lists dont.
I wouldn't object to you using it but id feel better if the army was well thought out and not just making the best of advantages gained.
Hope that makes sense  :D
I do think tho that if the CSM gets the SR then the WH have just as much reason to include it. Another can of worms.
Title: Re: 10th 40KOnline UK Tournament - OFFICIAL Tournament Thread!
Post by: Tarrin the Space Marine on June 8, 2011, 12:56:10 PM
except a MC cannot enter a vehicle as only Infantry, (or Jump Infantry) can.

Title: Re: 10th 40KOnline UK Tournament - OFFICIAL Tournament Thread!
Post by: popsical on June 8, 2011, 01:17:28 PM
Hence why i said "alongside" luce.
The principal is the DP with wings can keep up with the SR and use it as cover (still assaulting thru it if neccessary) this combination of winged MC and 12 assault troops plus a nutty dreadnaught, cannot be replicated by other codexs. The CSM dreadnaught loses its nasty "friendly fire" penalty whilst riding on a SR, yes it can do so onboard a dreadclaw pod, but these cannot start on the table and are not gauranteed to arrive on time or target.

My earlier point stands, when using non official stuff disadvantages help smooth the road. Mutley is considering taking my old Harlequins to this years tournie, as last year we agreed to allow the 40konline EO list. This list has a few advantages (quins as troops being one) but it lacks any heavy armour at all, this being that 40k 5th ed favours mech armies. It also has little anti tank weaponry, so has to be played very carefully versus some armies to be effective.
Title: Re: 10th 40KOnline UK Tournament - OFFICIAL Tournament Thread!
Post by: Guildmage Arcas on June 8, 2011, 01:26:06 PM
But the only people attending who own Witch Hunter armies are me and Tarrin (aka Luce) and neither of us are planning to bring them, nor want a stormraven with a penetiant engine in. In actual terms the likelyhood of this becoming a problem is very low... its not like its a ruling to OK it for all games of 40K everywhere.

I think you're worrying about nothing.
Title: Re: 10th 40KOnline UK Tournament - OFFICIAL Tournament Thread!
Post by: popsical on June 8, 2011, 01:38:28 PM
As ive said im not fussed particularly, just posting my thoughts on the issue  :)
Bringing SR's because they make your army kick ass by getting your dreadnaughts into combat alongside your DP with wings and berserkers in the SR, is just playing the unit to max effect.
Title: Re: 10th 40KOnline UK Tournament - OFFICIAL Tournament Thread!
Post by: Tarrin the Space Marine on June 8, 2011, 01:59:04 PM
I think you be mixed up a little popsical. he said C:SM, not CSM.

Also re: the DP. I think if the player wants to run his SR at 12" a turn so the theorectical DP can keep up then that is a risk. It removes the move fast cover and makes that AV12 high up box as a huge target.

He is on about the a space marine list , not a chaos list.

  • a full 1750pt army
  • your army list
  • dice & templates
  • measuring tape
  • glue (for field repairs)
  • objective markers (for missions)
  • money for lunch / packed lunch
  • a good sense of humour!
  • pen and paper (to keep track of points etc)
  • a camera, to document the carnage (optional!)

The games:
We will hopefully get 4x games in over the day.

The format for these will be confirmed in a tournament pack which is available to download from the BFG website. See the link above. This pack will also detail all the games and rules etc.

The armies:
  • your armies will need to be 1750pts
  • non-codex print armies, such as armoured company / kroot mercenaries are of course allowed! in all cases you MUST bring ALL the relevant rules in order to play with that army
  • forge world IS allowed. you may use anything without structure or mass points as part of your army abiding by the forgeworld rules, and of course, you must bring those rules with you. if you wish to use a forge world army list (as opposed to just adding in units) then you may do so
  • in all cases, the most up to date rules are to be used. This includes the Forge World Imperial Armour Apocalypse book.
  • the forge world flyer rules will be used (not those from Apocalypse).
  • the only exception is that, as per Apocalypse, Pintle Mounted Weapons will count as AA (anti-aircraft weapons) - this is to give some armies a fighting chance against flyers.
  • your army does not need to be painted, but additional points will be awarded to those that are
  • all armies and units must be "official", no VDR units will be used nor armies without official publications (codeces or otherwise). If you are unsure about your army then ask here first!

please look through the above, its all subject to change according to our concensus.

Just a reminder to everyone that you have a little more than a month of the reduced 12 ticket price. Once we are into August we will only be offering tickets at 15.

Please also remember that your spot is only secure once you have paid... so don't put off the inevitable! Besides, the sooner all the forum-ers pay up the better, as we will then know how many other spots we will have to be filled - as the chaps from the BFG do like taking part too, and I am sure that some of the guys that go to Triple Helix might also be interested (if Steve wants to point them in this direction)

Hi,

After much deliberation I will have to pull out this year.  Being on a Sunday the trains will not get me there in time, also my mate who I would stay with is on honeymoon.  All these factors increase the cost of the tournament too much for me :(

Don't worry I'll be back next year (whether it's in Westbury or Bracknell).

This is a friendly reminder to everyone that at from the begining of next month you will not be eligible for the reduced ticket price. Save yourself a few quid and be sure to buy your ticket early. The other reason to do so is because the tickets will soon enough be opened up to the members of the BFG, (and I'm eager to ensure that THW members also get a chance), so if you have nto secured your place by buying your ticket then you risk having the spot snapped up by someone else!

there are still a dozen or so of you that have expressed an interest but not yet paid. I don't want anyone to get dissapointed because they lost out due to not getting their act together!  ;)

I've had a query from one among us regarding the use of Forge World units. Now, ordinarily this wouldn't really be an issue, as over the tournaments we have come to a degree of concencus over their inclusion, forming the current set of rules within the pack.

However, this particular query relates to rules which are within the Badab War series of books. The question is, are (or should) Badab war rules free to use within "standard" 40K games or are they designed to be restricted within that era of gameplay!?

In short, have they been worked out in the grander 40K scheme of things, or have they only been considered within the balance of the Badab War rules for units and armies?

I'm putting this out because we are a democratic community in sorting this tournament out and I don't fell it fair for me to make my own decision on the matter!

Speak now, or forever hold your peace...

Well the Space Marine special characters in IA10 Badab War Pt 2 say for use with a Codex Space Marines army. I think the Siege Assualt Vanguard and Historic Battle Missions are designed for the era.

I don't see any problem with the badab rules being used, although i think that if some one is going to use special characters from that book, they shouldn't use special characters from other books (the ones set in 41st millennium) as it wouldn't seem right fluff wise
Title: Re: 10th 40KOnline UK Tournament - OFFICIAL Tournament Thread!

Are they asking about using the specific army lists in the badab books or are they after specific characters/vehicles etc?

If it is the latter i would say fine. Nearly all of the chaarcters are balanced, and the vehicles (cestus assualt ram and LR achilles aside) are fair.

I don't think the army lists in the books should not be used.
One list allows the mixing of IG and SM which i think should not be an option, purely because it can lead to cherry picking units easier (marine troops, backed up by Russ, hellhounds and basilisks for example).  The second list is really nasty, power wise, when compared to other SM lists (and this is listed in the designer notes) and the extra objective is not a fair balance for either player. It means that the people playing this game are not doing the same game as everyone else in a round.

So in short:
Characters - Yes
Vehicles - Yes
Army Lists - No
Title: Re: 10th 40KOnline UK Tournament - OFFICIAL Tournament Thread!
Post by: popsical on July 20, 2011, 11:28:11 AM
The whole 2 books are fine with me.
The lists are not particularly powerful.
I used to run the IG/SM mix as pre heresy, its not a cherry pick list at all.
The units available are different (in the case of the SM) and the guard units are different to IG too.
Its a fun list that certainly isn't uber, but allows a very fluffy army to take the field.
Mutley is right tho, the characters should not be mixed in with the codex characters as it will create truly sick consequences.
Title: Re: 10th 40KOnline UK Tournament - OFFICIAL Tournament Thread!
Post by: Unleash Mayhem on July 21, 2011, 09:26:52 AM
Why would it be bad to include both? In the Seige Assault Vanguard you can field both, so it seems intended. However I agree that the extra objective would be unfair on everyone so I don't think that list should be allowed.
Title: Re: 10th 40KOnline UK Tournament - OFFICIAL Tournament Thread!
Post by: Shas'Oink on July 21, 2011, 09:42:26 AM
I think the idea is that the characters in the current codex represent personas from the current time line, whilst those in the Badab War book represent personas from THAT era.

The Siege Assault Vanguard list is a very different beast, and lists in general will often allow you to do things differently than individual units because they have been worked out in a particular way... For instance, an obvious example is the forge world armoured company list, which uses units within different FoC to normal.

Similarly though, I'll have to double check the actual wording in the Badab War book to see what the RAW says about inserting Badab units into standard armies etc...

Would like to comment on this..even though I'm not attending. (Seeing as I was going to bring a Tyrants Legion list if I could make it ;) )

The Tyrants Legion list is balanced. Why?
- You don't get to use the nice rules from the IG in this list.
- You need to take SM troops to unlock some SM units.
- You are obligated to field a Legion Venturion from a certain points limit (crappy IC I've found out)
- You're also obligated to take at least 1 Auxilia unit as troops.

The Siege Assault Vanguard list is a powerful one true.
But it is totally balanced due to the Siege Objective. Why?
- Your opponent gets to place the objective!
- No matter the mission victory rules, if you have NOT claimed the objective (contested is not enough) or wiped out your opponent then you can never get better then a draw.
Plus is has some interresting options left out (no drop podding siege army ;) )

I don't see any problem with the badab rules being used, although i think that if some one is going to use special characters from that book, they shouldn't use special characters from other books (the ones set in 41st millennium) as it wouldn't seem right fluff wise

As to the time line thing. True they represent characters from that time era. Most of who are still around.
As to fluff wise....I've seen people put lists down with Vulkan and ultramarine special characters....how is that fluffwise correct?
As a tip...never put to much stock in fluff.
Tyrants legion is easy, it doesn't allow additional special characters (except Huron and the free downloadable one on FW site)
As to the Siege Assault list, it's not a time based list. It's more a strategic list.

But as far as going for or against FW lists...if you are going to exclude certain content then I'd advice you to also take a look at the  IA8 list. Which is also a horrendously powerfull list. (see the problem with trying to exclude certain lists, you always get pointed to another IA book etc ;) ) Or the Armoured Company list that O:nk already mentioned...some would claim that it's also an over the top powergame list.

I have to agree with almost all Zilv has just said.
If you start banning IA lists it becomes problematic, im sure quite a few people object to many of the IA lists, so where do you stop?
The krieg artillery list can be truly horrific if spammed, the ability to lay down 9 st10 ordinance templates per turn for cheap points or the ability to use up to 6 Hades breaching drills also cheaply points wise, is very very powerful.

But i think if you state special characters must only be used in conjunction with the book they are in if it has a list in it, it should prevent odd ball situations.

Nice idea except it doesn't quite work that way.
Lughft is in the Tyrants Legion list.
But if someone wants to field an Astral Claws army they'd need to use the SM coedex. And according to your idea you couldn't include him in that list then....

I've put IA 9&10 special chars bsides the special chars in the SM codex.

So far I haven't found any powerhouse combo's.
Or better said powerhouse combo's that are better then the current mixes you can make.

Plus there is already a safeguard in the IA books.
All the chapter masters you can take disallow you to take any other chapter master named or otherwise.
So that'd rule out (from top of head) Vulkan, Marneus and Khan from the SM codex.
You also can't mix chapter masters from the IA books.
Title: Re: 10th 40KOnline UK Tournament - OFFICIAL Tournament Thread!
Post by: Unleash Mayhem on July 21, 2011, 04:28:16 PM
Vulkan isn't a Chapter Master, neither is Khan. Actually rules out Pedro and Calgar.

EDIT: All I want to be able to do is take a hero from IA that says it is an HQ choice in CSM army. Seems fair that I can take other special characters too. All I will say is I think it's a fluffy combo.

Reading through the character rules I think its pretty clear that they can be used within Space Marine Armies. They clearly say the FoC they belong to wihtin Space Marine Codex Armies, and sometimes impose other restricitons (such as no other chapter masters, named or otherwise)... I'll certainly have no issue.

I've not made an opinion on the army lists... htough I would like to express my annoyance at people for re-igniting my desire to start a lamenters army...

I'm not sure how we would handle the Siege Vanguard Army list. It has already been said that such an army would essentially be playing a separate game to everyone else... and this may be unduly unfair (either to the vanguard army, or their opponents). Like Zilverscale has mentioned though, I am loath to start saying that you should NOT be allowed to use this list - as we shouldn't cherry pick what to allow and what not to allow (otherwise we could just as easily ban Mephiston... or Blood Angels as a whole for whatever reasons we can think of!?)

Title: Re: 10th 40KOnline UK Tournament - OFFICIAL Tournament Thread!

We could quite simply say that only forgeworld units can be used, not special characters or army lists.  A simple blanket decision, but ensure a fair playing field for everyone.

Of course i am sure there will be some people who will rage at this idea, but it either that or just accept anything goes and put up with the wierd, OTT and plain silly.

However, when it comes down to it, the rules as stated on the front page of this thread are clear. If its a print army then its allowed.

I come to this event to have fun, and use/fight against a variable group of army lists.
The appeal of this tournie is, for many, the chance to use units and lists that most other tournies don't allow.
I think this theme should continue, and the uniqueness of the event will be preserved.
My two pence.

The appeal of this tournie is, for many, the chance to use units and lists that most other tournies don't allow.
I think this theme should continue, and the uniqueness of the event will be preserved.
My two pence.

Very well put.

In other matters, you guys who have yet to buy your ticket have about ONE WEEK left to purchase tickets at the 12 price. After this time, tickets will cost 15, and you will also be contending with tickets being available to people outside of the forum.

Don't delay...

True Mutley, we really must ban these nasty IA lists, they are far worse than the Guard list that tabled every comer in 5 turns or less  ;D
Codex armies just cant match IA in their lethality can they???  :o

Sarcasm aside, my earlier statement stands. Were all going for fun and the openness of the tournie (i hope).

Leave you guys alone for a few weeks and look what happens!

So, let's put our 'practical hats' on:

Who's thinking of using Forge World stuff; do you think it's likely to upset anybody? It's good to discuss what we should and shouldn't allow but if nobody is going to bring one of these strange lists I'm really not fussed about if they are allowed or not.

i agree with popsical. the badab lists might be nasty but are they any worse than the discusting leaf blower list that won last year?

Coming from the guy that uses Drop Pods that allow Dreadnaughts to charge the turn they land...

Banning stuff from codexes is a lot different from banning Forge World's hocusy pocus rule-set. I can write better rules than Forge World -- that's not even opinion but pure fact.

For the record, I have no problem with people using Forge World units but let's not kid ourselves when we try to take Forge World's rules seriously.

This makes most sense to me, while I don't have significant balance complaints about the Forgeworld lists they are quite different from 'normal' armies while in this fashion its quite interesting it also can mean a lot of time explaining whats what and so on. More complex rules don't mean something is better after all.

Except you'll have the same problem (with explaining rules) if you ban special chars, and army lists and allow units.

As some of those units have a whole page full of rules.

So IMHO this will put you right back at the beginning of the problem.

Plus you'll have the same problem with home made codexes (if the org does decide to allow them), or out of print ones (Kroot, Harlies etc).
You'll have a lot of explaining to do as not everyone will be familiar with them.

Lol at Vanguard tournament I sometimes had problems due to some of my opponents heavily converted models....

After ordering the other half to let me have the car (read grovelled like a kid), I'll be coming this year (payment via paypal has been sent). I'm not to happy with my current 1750 list, so I'll have to see what I can paint up in a month.

At least I'm not bringing my Tau with it's 6 twin-linked railguns.

See you all in just under a month :)

I'm certain Mutley has paid for two tickets (you missed off the Pd on his buddy)... I've made sure to update the list on the first page...

Also, I see that you have had a buyer from BFG, thats great, I know its further than usual, but I'm sure you'll find a few others.

On that note, be sure to let Steve from TWH know that he is welcome to offer up some tickets to "suitable" gamers (read= no outrageously sexy lycra-clad pixies   :P )

TO everyone else, you have until THIS WEEKEND to get your tickets at the reduced price! There are a fair few of you who have expressed interst but have not yet paid. I know you might be waiting for pay day, but make sure you don't miss the mark!

So IMHO this will put you right back at the beginning of the problem.

No it won't, as familiarity with one unit or character is a completely different situation to playing a different mission. Particularly when you're now playing a custom mission that the person with the forgeworld army is totally familiar with and you're not.

RE: Forgeworld lists

The lists are not designed for competative play in anyway shape or form. They are designed for fluffy campaigns and one-off scenarios, where balance is secondary to the interest of something that performs very differently.
They can be completely broken for competative play if using a standard FOC and missions, and despite this being a "friendly" tournament, I think it's fair to say that both players in every game will want to have a chance at actually winning.
Title: Re: 10th 40KOnline UK Tournament - OFFICIAL Tournament Thread!

I have no issues with fighting against a forge world list. As this tournament is really just another excuse for being able to use our cool toys, I am happy to let someone use say... the death korps army list that is supposed to go with their awesome models... or an ellysian army how it was trully intended! Similarly, if anyone wants to bring along an army of renegades then I'd love to see their awesome models and conversions too! If someone wants to bring a killer kan list, or armoured company then thats also great... lots of cool models, and powerful armies, but difficult to win with due to having trouble with capturing objectives!

My only concern with the siege assault list is that it affects the game objectives - and this may well impact a tournament setting much more than oddly balanced lists. This is because we will be capturing a set number of objectives in our games, and playing exactly the same mission as each other in order to balance out the game points. The Siege Assault list will be playing its own game, and this may well adversely impact (or advantage) them or their opponent in relation to everyone else.

Again, I don't think that anyone is planning on using the siege assault list (indeed Unleash_Mayhem has admitted he only wants to use one character within his army - again, which I don't have any issue with).

I want to bring along a couple of forge world units for my own army too... the Hades (which has been discussed by a number of vets too) makes it into the army because I got the model for fathers day and I think it looks awesome! and I also want to use a Salamander HQ, because I converted a cool looking command jeep which will fit this, and my army theme just right!

I think it is important that we allow people to use these sorts of things because it is a wider part of the hobby and really the only chance that you can be sure of taking your forge world kit to a tournament and playing with it! Of course there may well be good reason for other tournaments not allowing forge world... but I don't think we want to diminish the spirit of this event by getting too bogged down in the competitiveness of it all. I think that there are enough tournaments out there to cater for that already! (and plan on going to a longest day tournament at bristol as soon as I can to experience this fully)

If people are still very concerned (specifically about the siege list) then I thin kthat we can dis-allow this army list only - on the basis that it affects the victory conditions which, for this tournaments are pre-set, and if g00gle5 decides that he wants to introduce sub-missions again then we know there won't be any conflict there either.

What say ye all?!

But how do you draw the line?
Plenty of the other lists appear to have crazy broken rules like allowing a Marine army to take Lemun Russes for instance...

A blanket ban on the lists seems the fairest option, while still allowing people to use the special units.

Yes, it's supposed to be fun.
But I contest that getting steam rollered by a list that isn't balanced for tournament play is not fun for the other player.

I draw the line at the list which affects the game objective - because this can directly affect the set up of the tournament, as I'm sure everyone can agree.

To my knowledge, this is the only list which does this.

The easiest way to settle this is to set up another poll....

Do we allow
a) all forge world lists and units?
b) all forge world lists except the seige list and all units?
c) units only?
d) units only and no special characters?
Title: Re: 10th 40KOnline UK Tournament - OFFICIAL Tournament Thread!

you asked, and you will receive. The old poll has been changed to a new one to help settle the issue. I think this poll should only last about a week, as I will need to adjust the tournament pack and we will need to ensure that all people who have paid are informed off the change in case this affects their army list.

I'm particularly concerned if we do not allow any forge world lists, only if someone has bought a ticket on the pretence that they wanted to come in order to use one.

Vote now...

Bah, if we ban them how can I possibly hope to blame my utter failure on the brokenness of Forge World stuff?

In all seriousness I don't see how we can selectively ban stuff and maintain a straight face in what is absolutely not meant to be a competitive tournament. I reserve the right to be-atch at anyone who uses FW stuff, but I'm voting against banning any of it, although I came close to wanting the Siege list gone

May i add to this, imagine if you had spent on a seige list for this very tournie, having known that every list/unit/character has been legal till now.
I havent done, but i dont think it would be fair to ban anything at this point.
Maybe see how this year goes and change the lists next year.
Also if the seige list tables every comer in 5 turns or less, whos to say its more broken than the last years winner?
Sure if it tables everyone in 4 turns or less we will have a problem i think.

I got tabled in 5 turns by the winner last year, from turn 1 it was utterly obvious that i was going to be tabled, this didnt phase me in the slightest, it happens with codex lists.
Im no rookie but i dont know half the codex rules let alone FW ones, so yet again, it happens with codex lists.
Lets just have fun, and if someone doesnt want to fight the FW lists then state so before the day starts and the problem will be solved.

popsical also makes a very good point, and even if nobody has deliberately spent time and money preparing a siege list for this specific tournament (which I think is pretty unlikely to be honest) it's still a bit of a dick move to turn around and tell someone "nope sorry, we don't want to play your army". I personally don't much want to play mechanised guard armies, but I don't have the ability to call for a vote banning them from the tourney. I mean I could, but I doubt it would go anywhere

EDIT @ Sheepz: that's a bummer dude :(. Next year I'm just going to abduct you on my way down

I seriously doubt anyone goes out to buy however many 00s worth of forgeworld minis just for the sake of this tourney.
A few bits of kit here and there maybe, but a whole army lists' worth? I doubt it.

Aside from the (lack of) balance issue, alternative lists will also seriously slow down the games, as even the owners of said armies will probably be unfamiliar with all the special rules. We were hard pushed to get 4 x 1750 into time last year, and if I miss my curry afterwards I will be pissed.

None-the-less, I will abide by the popular vote, though I reserve the right to grumble about it.

I have no doubt that I will draw a forgeworld list in every round, and be taken to the cleaners by Oink's cheese seige drill in round 1.
But I will smile about it, and buy the drinks. ;)

Cheese Drill is a suitable description... and not that soft cheese either... no, that hard mouldy stuff that really gets your nose working.

Also, I didnt mean to suggest that people would go out and buy an army for the sole purpose of the tourney, but rather may have bought a ticket knowing (and wanting) to bring along their forge world gribblies for the simple fact that you simply cannot do that anywhere else. Myself, I was thinking of running an armoured company list... but it had less tanks than my current one (and couldn't field the aforementioned Cheese Drill!)

@killing time, In point of fact i did last year, i used several FW units in my nid army which are oddball by 5th ed standards (malanthrope, Big spores), the list was bought painted and modelled for this event specifically (ask mutley).
This event is special and should be left as such.
My current project army has been designed and is being modelled and painted for this tournie (hopefully this years, depending on the painting gods) and could not be used in many normal tournies.

As ive said, if you dont want to fight FW say so and see how the organisers can fit you in.
I do think however you will miss the real uniqueness of this tournie, and might as well go to a bog standard one (of which there are plenty).

Guys from this forum go to many tournies and meet, this one is practically the only one i know of that allows the lists and units that it does.

That should be amended to "guys from this forum who play competitively". It's a relatively small club and you get to know people. Those of us who a) aren't interested in playing competitively in tournaments, b) don't have the time or money to do so, or c) all of the above view the 40KO tournament as a once-per-year opportunity to put names to faces.

Fair enough, i however only attend this tournie for 40k, as i like the openness of the entry lists.
I enjoy meeting the people that attend and am not an overly competitive player (i abandoned a match last year (i was looking like winning) in respect of anothers situation) to finish a happy 8th.
Whats the problem with just not fighting FW lists if you feel that badly about it?
Is this a situation of people:
a) feeling they will be unfairly disadvantaged?
b) not wanting to have to make allowances for new rules/changes?
c) any other reason?

Just curious  :D

Different people have different reason. I mostly come because I have done for years, and I get curry afterwards.

That does raise an interesting alternative possibility though, and one that is in use in other more serious tournaments: how about letting players stipulate that they don't want to play some types of army in the first round, within limits? Is that doable at all?

Whats the problem with just not fighting FW lists if you feel that badly about it?
Is this a situation of people:

Sigh.
I've stated this many times, but here we go again.

1. FW stuff is a complete unknown to some of us who don't buy the IA books.
It can be pretty unfunny to have random, unbalanced stuff shooting the crap out of your army without any form of defense against it.
Show me the pintle mount in the Eldar army for dealing with flyers for intance.... or should I fork out on a Firestorm just in case?

2. The rules are not made with competitive play in mind. They're for campaigns and friendly scenarios.
Regardless of what you think of the ethos of the 40kO tournament, it is still a tournament and many people are playing to win their games, even if they're being friendly about it.

I have no issue playing against FW stuff in pick-up games and campaigns. But I think that in a 1 day, 4 game tournament environment, many of the FW rules are too much of a wildcard issue.
If you're not set up to deal with them then they're simply not fun to play against. And I say that from experience. I fail to see why the tournament has to be fun for the FW players at the expense of the non-FW players.

The tournament has traditionally also asked people not to bring powergaming net lists like leaf blower guard.
When people do it is frowned upon because they make games un-fun.

I'm trying not to sound like a miserable killjoy bastard who needs to win at all costs.
But if I really cared about winning at all costs I wouldn't bring the underpowered fluff lists I do bring.
On the other hand, I like to at least have an idea about what I'm facing so that I can at least try to win.

FYI ALL:

There is an "Opt out" procedure in place where people can choose not to play against someone. This could be for a number of reasons, from they have a forge world list you don't want to fight, or they might be a regular opponent of yours (no one wants to travel 100miles to play the guy you live next door to!)

This is obviously easy to do in the first two rounds, as they are random. But in the second two rounds this is more difficult (if not impossible) as you fight against ranked opponents.

In terms of forge world lists:

There have been a few armoured companies over the years, and an ellysian list or two. However, it should be noted that the number of forge world lists created by them has increased more recently - given the more recent trend for them to have lists in their books now. Lets not forget that we are generally willing to allow other lists too - as long as this is made clear prior to turning up - Popsical even used 40KOnlines very own Harlequin list a few years ago. And if someone wanted to come along with a Kroot Merc force they would be welcomed.

There was however, the infamous Inferno Shells fiasco - which immediately saw them banned the following years (up until their rules were changed / outdated anyway!), but aside from that there has been a number of people inserting forge world units into their armies. This tends to be the more common thing (for obvious reasons).

Just to clear matters up, I have zero intention of refusing to play anyone.
If I'm coming across as overly critical of FW it's because this is the place to air any strong opinions and get them hammered out before the event proper.
And also because Tarrin shot me up the arse with a Remora last year and it still stings....

b) not wanting to have to make allowances for new rules/changes?
c) any other reason?

Also sigh  ;)
I never said i knew the ethic of the tournie, i merely stated why i like it and why it is different.
Bez slaughtered us last year with a hideous guard list, fair play to him, if i wanted to compete with it i would have had to cheese my list, i didnt (i had FW lol).
If the same thing happened versus a FW list whats the difference? Why does the FW player deserve special hatred?
He cheesed and stuffed me but you have a funny list and stuffed me, thats unfair!  :o
Whos to say the seige list is uber? I certainly dont know as ive never fought it, lets not jump on the "its new and i dont understand it so its obvously uber, ban it!" wagon.
If like the inferus shells it turms out silly then ban it next year, seems fair.
Ive used the SM/guard hybrid list and its hardly uber, standard codex lists can blast it.

Im not using any FW rules this year, so i have no benefit from this, i just think it would be sad to object to stuff that we havent given a fair shot to, and that others may have spent time and building.

Who said anything about hatred?

The main issue is that they're a complete unknown to many players, as well as there being balance issues.
At least with a leaf blower you know exactly what you're facing when it lands on the table.

Whatever. I really don't care that much.
I've stated my case.
I said a long time ago I'd rather not have any FW at all. Now the issue is lists or units and again I've stated my case.

beslubber it. I shall bring a Warp Hunter and you shall all feel my wrath.

My first tournament, so I have nothing to compare it with. Personally, I don't care much what I come up against, as it will all be pretty much equally unfamiliar as I've only ever played friendlies vs mates. I don't anticipate winning much, so it makes no odds to me whether I get duffed up by a strictly codex compliant but cheesetastic list, or an off the wall FW fluff list.

I'd only say that anyone bringing something unusual had better be prepared to explain exactly what it is, show his opponent the relevant rules, and allow his opponent to read said rules. I own or have read every codex and IA, but because I don't play often, I won't get the implications on the table for many special rules.

And I chose this tournament for my first one for the exact reason that it will be with a bunch of people who I have known online for years but never met, excepting Tarrin and Gravis. It will be nice to put some faces to usernames.

[gmod]If you think someone is trolling, use the Report to Moderator button. In the meantime, why not state your opinion on the tournament rules and leave it at that?
Anyone coming to a tournament with a chip on the shoulder, hoping to redress an allegedly cheesy thing from last year, may wish to consider if any fun will be had from it at all.[/gmod]

I do agree that if it changes the rules of the game then people should be asked not to use that list but i don't feel it should be banned

The main issue is that they're a complete unknown to many players, as well as there being balance issues.
At least with a leaf blower you know exactly what you're facing when it lands on the table.

to a lot of players some codex armies are a total unknown, at the end of the day if the person has all the relevent rules and shows there opponent at the start and states what their special rules do then where is the problem

Whatever. I really don't care that much.

well not be funny but if you don't care why is it such an issue? its been stated many times through the topic that this isn't meant to be a power gaming tournament, there has been some nasty lists in previous years but i personally haven't seen anyone get the ump about it. yea people want to win but lets face it even if you do win all you get is a piece of paper lol

Garlick, nice of you to join us.

With the Forge World issue, I think we've pretty much come to the conclusion officially everything is allowed [except things with mass points].

BUT

Seriously now, this tournament is small enough that it is so easy to isolate instances and make exceptions and do what we like. We're not talking about a Throne of Skulls or a widely publicised event with dozens of randoms turning up. From the pre-paid list I can put a lot of names to faces and have a fairly good idea of what armies we are going to see already and I can't really see anybody causing an issue.

And if they do? They're idiots and they should know better. Who has the balls to bring a Siege List after reading this thread?

I guarantee you all the issues you guys are discussing with what is and isn't allowed are 99% redundant and this discussion is people playing Devil's Advocate for the sake of it.

We've had the rule in place in every tournament, you can even see it in the rules pack: if you don't want to fight your opponent, come find me and I'll tactfully find you another opponent, regardless of it being a first round or fighting for 1st place on table 1.

But you know what? We've never had anybody invoke that rule. Over 400 games across 9 tournaments and you think we'll have trouble now? How special do you think you guys are?

So, as far as I'm concerned, end of discussion. Get back to talking amphetamine parrot to each other and start some challenges and grudge matches going on.

I mean seriously, less than a month to go and nobody's challenged Hymirl yet? What kind of event do you think we are running here? GET ON IT.

Hi all, just had a rush of tickets sold, confirmed from Mac (thanks for keeping me in the loop).

We now have 23 secured places (as noted by the PAID next to names on the first page). If you believe you have paid, but this isn't showing up then be sure to let us know.

This does mean that there are only 7 spots left. And only two days before the reduced cost period finishes. Remember, if you want to bring someone else along then they don't have to be forum members, but they will need a ticket if they want to take part.

I've paid (Andromidius).  Like two months ago :P

Personally I'd prefer 'no Forge World', but that's mostly due to hating Remoras.

I'd go with 'no FW lists or special characters' but allow units.

I don't understand the remora hate.  They cost through the nose and the weapon loadout is really not that bad. They also look awesome.

Admittedly the seeker missile rules do give them a bonus when used right.

I might be bringing my tau andro with two of them...

Hi Gormag, and welcome to the forums! The first post of this thread should have all the information you are looking for. You should pay in advance to secure your spot, whilst tickets may be available at the door these will only be those left over, and be sold on a first come first serve basis.

If you have any questions then post here, or PM myself or MacVurrich (Mac for payment related items)

FYI, payment is being made through Bracknell Forest Gamers Club who are providing their usual invaluable help in organising this event (including finding this alternative venue at Triple Helix Wargames).

Also to all; remember now that we are in August, the lower ticket price no longer applies.

It just seem wrong coming with unpainted models, especially as I've always had a fully painted army the previous years I've attended.

I also don't want to have the traditional late night painting the night before as I have the long drive home after a full day's gaming.

Of course Mutley he will be following the vote that is at the top of the list and bringing a codex list, not a forgeworld list, as the majority have agreed.

Or are we just ignoring what has been decided by the populus?

I'm not be-atching, but i thought we made a decision about this.  Can one of the organisers just decide.

I'm not be-atching, but i thought we made a decision about this.  Can one of the organisers just decide.

Actually though:

10 people are happy for others to bring forge world army lists (only 4 of them say that they think the vanguard assault list should not be allowed.

Contrary to that 9 people would rather no forge world army lists (and of those, only 2 would like to limit the forge world units allowed).

majority rules... forge world army lists allowed - and seeing as no one is actually thinking of brining the vanguard assault list then its not really that much of an issue... we know this because the pack rules specifically state that those wanting to bring forge world lists need to advise us of that beforehand. Also, g00gle5 decided that the vote was a bit of a waste anyway, as the pack kind of cemented that we should allow forge world lists anyway and he was of the opinion that we were all being nancies!!!

(you will note that he is likely not playing this year so we won't get the opportunity to show him otherwise on teh field of battle!)

That doesn't ignore the fact that 10 people are happy for people to have FW army lists. Whilst 9 would rather not. FPTP works on the basis of two choices... so technically, we do still have that - just that additionally people have been able to express a further opinion.

besides, as mentioned - g00gle5 has already had a go at us for Tremultuous O-footing around and whinging.

Post by: Shas'Oink on August 15, 2011, 12:22:25 PM
The rules pack is quite clear over what forge world items are allowed and what restrictions are included... for example, nothing with structure / mass points (or equivalent) is allowed. Other than that you MUST make sure that you bring along the full and up to date rules for any units you wish to use (FW or otherwise!).

I'm not familiar that either of those have structure points, though I imagine that the Blood Slaughterer does (correct me if I'm wrong!?)
Title: Re: 10th 40KOnline UK Tournament - OFFICIAL Tournament Thread!
Post by: Gormag2552 on August 15, 2011, 12:30:06 PM
The blood slaughterer doesn't have structure points, its like the ultimate World Eater dreadnought.

I won't take any Blight Drones, they are way overpowered, I don't think anyone wants fast skimmer units with 36" battlecannons flying around.

I have all the up to date rules for both.

The blight drones nasty but not that bad really, mutley's friend greg has 2 and 2 bloodcrushers and the plague defiler thingy and its perfectly beatable.
Bring em along if you like, many people will just love to fight something different and nice looking (in a rottten type of way lol)

Go for the paint! Your army (judging by your blog) looks awesome sauce... it would be a shame not to get to show it off in all its glory. Besides, you have a few days to paint up a couple more things if you need a few more competitive swaps!  ;)

Gentlemen - very much looking forward to welcoming all you fine peeps to the sleepy backwaters that are Westbury!

Just wondering, as we seem to have 27 on the Roster, if you need Triple Helix to relinquish our slot to make the numbers even? Or is there a plan to hog-tie and kidnap a 28th Roster member and spirit them away from their unsuspecting family this weekend (to be returned safely, if a little sorer, on Monday).

I (and Tom, our chosen champion) await in eager anticipation of your collective replies!

Don't be silly! Surely the correct solution would be to get another Triple Helix Wargamer to take part!!!

At the very worst, we can all hound Dan to make sure he gets there early and takes part!

Well maybe my arm is twisted, I can compromise a bit I think by rushing a Chimera that I'm working on through (my painting is normally measured in the scale of geologic time) and fielding one I painted donkeys years ago, so at least its painted lol

speak for yourself... I think I'll have just about enough time to paint a cross on a base! X marks the spot!!!

As for you Gravis... I'll say that your blog has loads of cool stuff (the rest of you should really check it out!), and your custom rough riders seem like they were painted in short order!

To be fair, I'd go with whatever makes you more comfortable! its always nice playing with fully painted armies, but it might not be so much fun if those fully painted models include nothing of any use! Still, I'd wager that your painted army is competitive enough... and you wouldn't want to water down the theme of your great praetorians on something as unimportant as winning! hehe!

Title: Painting Bonus Point Question
Post by: Rathstar on August 18, 2011, 09:17:01 AM
Hi,

I just had a quick painting question.  I've got painted and flocked skimmer bases, however I've never flocked my jetbikes bases as I think they look better on clear bases (and even GW leaves the jetbike bases clear).

Will I still get the bonus points for a fully painted army ?

On another point my painting is going so well (only 3 beastmasters and an extra jetbike to finish) that I've decided to try and get a game at my local club tonight.

You never know I may have played one game with the list before the weekend, an opportunity to try out three new units.  I've only played with one of these new units before and that around the time that the original codex came out :(

How's everyone else getting on with painting ?

I certainly encourage Triple Helix gamers to fill up slots!

Otherwise I'll have my Deathwing with me as a ringer army if needed (deliberately Deathwing so I can play 5-minute turns and have more time to organise).

I hope no one minds that I'm going to be doing all the pre-torunament stuff hungover tomorrow morning, then at a wedding all day tomorrow ready for Sunday...

Edit: Rath - no issues with those bases for painting scores.

Can everybody openly declare any challenges now, as well, please?

g00gle5,

Is there anything we can do to help the organising ?

I was surprised when I first read rules pack that  we didn't have to submit our list early.  Would it help if we submitted them now, so you can do some checking of lists before the day ?  We could submit them via PM, posting in this thread, or we could start a new army list thread.

Oh yes, that was right... backward sheep lovers or somesuch...  ;D I'll have you know that I have toned down my list just for you - I wanted to give you a BIT of a chance after all... I mean, we wouldn't want you to have come across the Severn Bridge into civilisation and just send you packing on your way again...

I do find it funny that the toll is only on the way into Wales... I suppose people drive too fast on the way out to expect them to stop...

I haven't had a chance to print out the rules pack so can somebody please bring a copy for me tomorrow! And have a copy of your list for me as well. I'll let you guys know tomorrow what help I'll need, it'll depend on if I have to play as a ringer or not...

I have to say the tournament was very well run, and managed to stay on schedule, which is a great achievement with trying to fit 4 games in one day.

Thanks to all my opponents for 4 great games, and I look forward to seeing you all again next year.

Home at 12.45. I doubt I'm the last home, that will probably be Chuckles. Had a great day fellas, excellent organisation from Google and his team, really pleasant venue, met a lovely bunch of geezers, many of you I've known online for years but never met. Had 4 great games, even enjoyed being kicked around by Dizz. Looking forward to some battle reports and pictures, particularly ones of my Trygon and his collection of trashed ork walkers. Count me in for next year.

Really good venue. I work pretty close to it so have been meaning to go there for a while- wish I had done sooner!

Thats good to know! (on both counts!) I do want to remind everyone that this isn't suppose to be a tournament designed by a few... but should always be an event by and for the community here on 40Konline! Our friends at Bracknell Forest Gamers Club (which some of us are part of) have so far been incredibly accommodating of us and have been immense and essential help in many ways! However, there are always things that we as a community can do to help take the burden off the few!

I think we have hit upon an excellent venue that, whilst quite a distance from some of us, is certainly a place worth driving to! I was impressed by the range of tables and terrain that helped make each game unique! No doubt as THW grows this will only improve as well (which is exciting!)

I'll be sure to plug them at every opportunity!

Agreed, it was a great venue I'd happily go back next year.

While you mention plugging things, there is a two day campaign weekend in Bristol end of November allowing forgeworld and the chance to play on all kinds of awesome tables (http://www.bristolvanguard.co.uk/Site/Terrain/Terrain.html). Tickets will be up for sale next week and apart from getting to see me again (and I'm great!) its a really fun event and a good chance to play with things you normally wouldn't get to.
