Since his Kabal started out as a Reaver gang, Lord Malzor, in his later years, has developed a love of all things flying. Take this Raven, for example...

Here are some of mine... I've got a pretty simple color scheme for my Dark Eldar, I have also eliminated most of the spiky bitz and helmets. All males are bald! Some ladies got to keep their hair...

One of my Archons.

Another Archon on a Reaver Jetbike.

My Raider Squads look like this. It's a stripped down Raven.

When the unit dismounts I take them off the Raider.

For every unit I have that can be mounted I also have them attached like this for my Raiders.

Surfin Hellions.

Ravager with 3 Dissies.

My Warpbeasts.

And a remote controlled Talos.

That's some of it. You can check it all out at my website. Just click on the 40k Dark Eldar tab at the top:

So I posted a few pics a while back, but I figure I may as well jump on the bandraider and put them here... plus I did a tad more work on my converted Lord model, so an update is in order anyway...

Just a small selection to give you a feel of my force.. maybe one of these days I can get a nice shot of the whole Raiding Party out and about...

The Lord... bet you can't guess where I got my inspiration  ;)

I know I posted this already...but never here...so in case some missed the picts in the painting forum.

(no clue on the kabals name, yet)
I hope that someday I get the inspiration...and finally come up with a name...and I need a name for my cult too. (even if it's not that big yet)

The whole thing a few weeks ago.

It's way bigger now that I added over 100 warriors and a few scrouges.
I'm also going to pick up more next week so no point in taking a pictures yet
(it's not even assembled yet anyways, or painted either, but I'm working on it)

SO imagine this with double to triple the amount of warriors lol

Some of the painted warriors

You know who these girls are...no need to mention their special names...

For those who will complaint about bad picts...sry my cam is actually broken lol (though you somehow still can take picts)

These 2 are rly bad pictures lol...rly old and they don't even show all the raider types...but it's something...

There are certainly some very unique and interesting armies in here. Its always good to see the true kin represented so well.

As I'm once again getting back into the hobby (tried last summer and trying again this summer) I thought I'd add a few pic of the Poisoned Claw. Please excuse some of the "painting table" pictures but I'm trying to spruce up some older models and get them all looking a bit more respectable.

Archon No'ki, Lord of the Kabal of the Poisoned Claw. On her "Pile In, I'll have the lot of ya" base.

Finally a quick picture of my current project, the nearly all plastic Ravager.

Just a bit of a selection of what I've revamped out of my 2000pts, hope you like.

Just a note... I've begun re-highlighting my Kabal.  I have a core army (2xtroops + HQ) done (2 HQ's, actually... just no Retinue for the one)... and hopefully today sometime I'll finish up both Ravagers.  In any case, I'll try to get some pics up... and maybe some shots of the full Kabal if I can get the kitchen table to myself at some point.

All about the Kabal of the Black Moon (http://www.40konline.com/index.php?board=108.0) (all progress so far)

Be sure to check it out, I'm sure you'll find it interesting if you like dark eldar.
You'll find pretty much everything a dark eldar army has, even some apoc formations lol.
The whole project is all about my (painting) progress. The goal of this project:
create an over 12K DE apoc army XD

So it's been a while since I said an update was coming, but finally I'm ready to post a few up.  Quick plug, I'm featured on a small independent 40k blog hosted on Wordpress (by one Andy Gomez).  If you're interested (there're also other posts and armies, of course) you can find a semi-link on the Twighlight Wraith thread.

On to the goods, though...

Might as well post my own DE minis. They've been lying around in the LGC for more than a year but I managed to retrieve them last week :)

A total of about 1,5k pts, but some raiders are missing on the picture (they're severely damaged)

The dracon and her retinue (I rarely use this unit though)

The archon and his band of wyches

Raider gunship: One blaster (front left), one splinter cannon and three regular warriors. I used two of these gunship variants as objective takers, tankbusters or bait.

The Archon. Simple, yet cool conversion

Drazhar and Incubus Master (both of them missing backpacks)

Converted wyches. The one to the left is the succubus (easily spotted by the different armor color) and the other one is a regular wych with a falchion.

Dracon. I love this Eldar warlock and I decided early that I wanted one of those in my army. The conversion is almost pathetically simple: horns from a DE close combat weapon and a long barrelled pistol made of a splinter rifle.

One of the scourges (used maybe once). They need more paint as they are completely black, save the yellow eyes. I wanted to make them a bit batman-like with black armor and such, but they turned out far to color-less. The pose is pretty cool on this one though. Seems like he's spraying a wide area with splinters, or stabbing an enemy who's gotten to close in the eye ;)

And a beloved sniper squad...

... although I prefer these models as dark lances, even if they need some paint. The raider versions really look badass in the hands of a warrior and are much cooler than the metal lances you get in blisters. Pay no attention to the guy in the middle, he's just a dude in a skirt and a ridiculous haircut who tells his squad when to fire.

It wasn't as difficult as it seems.

You start with the body from the Chaos champion of Slaanesh as seen right here.

Instead of the chaos head you take a DE warrior head from the sprue and glue it to the body. The champions feet are actually hoofs, so you must use some greenstuff in order to sculpt some normal feet.

Then saw off the sword and add a splinter pistol to the hand. For the left arm: Obviously I didn't use the shield so instead I sculpted a gaunlet to which I glued two knives ... again from the DE sprue.

Essentially that's it.

Been a long time since I was on this site. Damn that world of warcraft is addictive.

Some nice DE armies out there.

Mine is currently under review........ and several tons of rubbish in a cupboard.

However it was being converted with everything being reworked except the Incubi. I put it off for far too long though, but since I last worked on it several new Dark elf and wood elf bits have come out that should work along with eldar and dark eldar bits to make decent looking stuff...... hopefully.

In the meantime heres the only pictures that I have of anything DE related in cupboard. Hoping to do some stuff this week and will post pics as and when I can.

Couple of easy Incubi conversions first

And my bog standard Urien Rakarth cos, well hes pretty much perfect as is .Thats the model not my painting I mean.

A raider very much wip and has been for a very long time. The colour scheme was from an eldar army I got bored with and chopped up for conversions.

Update on the Shadow Stalkers of the Kabal of the Twilight Wraith...

With new fluff comes new painting ideas.  I've always rather liked the Scourge models (and the idea behind them, just not the rules) and have wanted to paint them for some time now (alas, things that actually make it out of the box have precidence).

However, painting something new can be a nice break from the monotony of dozens of warriors, and I've decided on a new scheme for them as well which breaks up the work even more.

Thanks to Scourges now being named as a further mercenary faction within the greater DE, I figured that they wouldn't be wearing the same armor as the rest of my army.  "Black pinions" seem to be a standard trait, so I figured black would be a good base color for them.  Wanting to tie them into the Kabal as a whole, though, they need some blue, so I figured the chest plate/pauldrons would be a good piece for that (large enough to stand out, but without taking over the entire model).

Their own colors also need to be shown... and I've decided to do helms and guns (what is a Scourge if not a big cannon?) in the colors of their Eyrie (and also the sigil on the Syb's chestplate).  I decided that I wanted bleached bone to be the main color to come through... so I did a beastial brown undercoat (over the black), then kind of a half-coat of bleached bone and a very light drybrush of skull white (this way, I think, it's a bit more natural-looking, and has a bit more depth to it).

The end result?

Bad lighting, I know, but it gives you an idea of the finished product.  Hopefully more will follow suit shortly.

Working on a DE army right now. Sorry for the slight out-of-focus-ness, my camera doesn't have a manual focus and it doesn't like to focus on my minis... This is all I have painted so far:

I've just gotten all the bits I need for a new warrior squad (Dar Elf Corsairs + DE Warriors). Pictures as I work (I hope).
Maybe even a modification to make a(nother) new Lord.

Here we go .. found my camera...

Here's Archon Amarath

Some of his retinue (the best looking ones ... i'm so vain >.< ) This includes the converted Drazhar who i have described above

(The skull and lighter blue denotes that incubi as Master... and from the wonderful time he singlehandedly slaughtered 3 guard squads packed in a bunker) =D

Here's a Sybarite with two warriors, note the gruesome talismans from the Vampire Counts Sprue

My Warp Beasts (Cold Ones from fantasy, be they dark elf or the lizard people, i forget, but they look better than the dark eldar ones anyway) + a raider in the background

And lastly the Converted Archon/Dracon/Archite (whatever i need him for, lol) i made recently from an Eldar Farseer w/ Spear.  Used pieces from DE Warriors and that vampire counts piece again

--Front--
(http://i344.photobucket.com/albums/p323/zephyrrey/P6290005.jpg)
Back
(http://i344.photobucket.com/albums/p323/zephyrrey/P6290006.jpg)

If you have any suggestions, the people who see this model say it's not obvious at first that it should be Dark eldar (although it matches my color scheme) The problem is, i don't know what to do to his front to connotate his dark.. eldar...ness..  any suggestions?

My Lord's Second in Command (I like to think of him as Starscream). He's in charge of the Lord's Warrior Retinue:

My Banner waving cheer leader (to be fitted to the Raider, once I put it together):

Some other WIP (the Lord's Warrior Retinue):

As I mentioned elsewhere, I threw together a box of Dark Elf Corsairs and the Raider and Warrior Apocalypse set.

The Raider will have the DL underslung, rather then on top, so the "Cheer-leader" can be standing on the prow with the banner.

i just recently got those witch elves as well for my wyches .. got them 3 days ago, i've gotten 6 of them done.
WYSIWYG question:  if i put the splinter pistol (in holster) bit on the base of the model, would it count for wysiwyg? it's too big for me to want to put it on the actual model .. (I'll make a post for this, on second thought, don't worry about answering this here)

but here's what they look like (i didnt slot them because they were all angled forward at 45 degree angles .. so i chopped them off and bent the feet to make it better..)

This one will probably be my succubus unless i get around to actually converting one to have an agoniser (the head is from the high elf mage on foot / horse sprue that i had lying around)

and i got this guy cause i love how he looks, will probly use him as a mandrake (hoping for sybarite upgrade in next codex whenever it comes out), my next buy is dark elf shades for the rest of the mandrakes

These are some examples of my new snake themed Kabal.  I always wanted to play with Vect, so  I envision them as an elite bodyguard or something for the Kabal Of the Black Heart.  Each squad will have some wacky snake themed armor.  Thanks to everyone for sharing their phots... You guys are really pumping me up!  We all know how much effort it takes to finish a complete army, so I thought I'd start with safe models I could use with the new codex...(http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/uu122/gbarrelhouse_photos/darkeldar1.jpg)(http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/uu122/gbarrelhouse_photos/darkeldar6.jpg)(http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/uu122/gbarrelhouse_photos/coralsnake2.jpg)

More painting in front of the TV tonight!  I knew some positive feedback would keep me motivated.  Thanks much dark eldar fans.  I'm not much good at tutorials i"m afrais.  I just work it out on the palate, from referencing library snake photo books.  The lighter dots count as shading an are carefully 'dotted' on with a fine brush.  The key for me was to try to have them recognizable as a snake.  And to have them still look menacing with the zany colors.  Here's a couple more warriors:(http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/uu122/gbarrelhouse_photos/darkeldar3.jpg)(http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/uu122/gbarrelhouse_photos/mambagunboat2.jpg)(http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/uu122/gbarrelhouse_photos/coralsnake1.jpg)

The minis take a long time to paint.  About 6-12 hours each in front of the TV off and on during the week at night when I'm trying to unwind.  After i finish all the warriors/raider squads I hope the painting will feel like 'going downhill' after finishing the most numerous squads in the Kabal.  I've been too spooked to buy Raiders/ravagers yet because of the chance the new models may come out within the year.
If new warriors come out I can just pick a new snake and blend them right in as a squad, but I'd prefer not having multiple raider styles.  Although there will be each painted to match their squad. 6-12 hours each mini??!!?? Or each squad?

Man you have far more patience than I. Though, the difference in quality between mine and yours is like the difference between a 4-year-old's stick figure and a picasso.

Keep up the good work!

Archon No'Ki - That's an impressive Ravager!  The mottled burgundy looks weathered, and I stared at it for five minutes just taking in all the detail.  The helmetless driver gives the feel of them gliding along slowly picking off everything with the three heavies...

holy crap, these snake warriors are just crazy amazing. It doesn't surprise me at all that they took so much time to do, but doing a whole army like this is just crazy.

Details like these take forever to do, I remember taking a whole night to do just 1 and half legs of my death jester in damboard pattern.

Can't wait to see your skimmers lol, but those already take so much time to paint, doing them in snake style will triple their painting time.

I love your dark lances, I almost feel like stealing the idea...

Bright DE like these always seem to be more eldar than ever, eldar painted like these would be seriously kickass.

I magnetized the arms of those dark lance warriors so I can switch weapons if need be.  I just used splinter cannons from the sprues as you can probably tell.
Afterpainting eldar Harlequins with my boy everything else seems easy!  I know what you mean about the diamond pattern...(http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/uu122/gbarrelhouse_photos/snake4.jpg)(http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/uu122/gbarrelhouse_photos/mamba3.jpg)(http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/uu122/gbarrelhouse_photos/snake3.jpg)

Do you have the e-mail of the Games Workshop Dark Eldar player?  I'd send them to him, but they're probably already looking at some really cool 'greens' in the GW office for the new re-sculpts for next year.  I'm getting fired-up!  It takes some internet energy sometimes to keep me going as I start assembling my 'cobra' sniper squad...(http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/uu122/gbarrelhouse_photos/coralsnake4.jpg)(http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/uu122/gbarrelhouse_photos/coralsnake5.jpg)

I try not to reply until I've got something new painted.  With ongoing other roleplaying game painting to be done, it's going to be a long slog to finish an army.  That's why I appreciate seeing all the other models on this thread to keep me pumped up!  Artists like Fugitive and Kharandil -thanks much...
Now into wacky cartoon land again with the first of my 'Cobra squad', the footsloggers.  This first guy doesn't have the coolness factor yet, but by mini 4 or 5 i'll get the hang of the posing with a huge plastic kids toy cobra on hteir backs!(http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/uu122/gbarrelhouse_photos/CobraBack.jpg)(http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/uu122/gbarrelhouse_photos/Cobra1.jpg)

Wow!  I'm getting fired-up again!  Gigantorjosh - the conversion-mania is terrific and original.  I love your lances, and posing.  Grave - serious painting!  Kharandils' beast of a painted collection is it"s only rival I've seen lately painted to such a consistently high standard.  I looked through all your models checking out the poses.  Classic colors and all so smooth!  Muppet - I'm dragging along slowly, but I'm trying to get to your size army.  Those black warriors look like an elite strikeforce next to the red warriors.  Wicked black raider, and intimidating dracon on reaver!  Thanks all for sharing...

My trick is to throw a TV tray up, so when my wife is watching her shows, I can get some painting done little by little...  Everyone knows they fight better when they're painted better!  The new scheme is browns and greens.  I know my photos are pretty lame, especially with those zany backgrounds.(http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/uu122/gbarrelhouse_photos/cobra3.jpg)(http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/uu122/gbarrelhouse_photos/cobra5.jpg)(http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/uu122/gbarrelhouse_photos/cobra6.jpg)

G barrel, those snake warriors blow my MIND!
can't wait to see what you'll do with a Talos...
How long does it take you to paint a warrior like that? I've been painting my army for about six months now, which seems quite a long time considering they are in classic red and black to table top quality

PS: your zany backgrounds are cool...better than kitchen bench for sure :D

Muppet - Because I paint in front of the TV, it 's hard to gauge the time put in.  I estimate between 6 and 12 hours per mini.  You have a very 'clean' look.  that doesn't come easy for me and I'm constantly re-painting over 'botched' areas and trying to stay 'in the lines'!  I got a Talos from a guy as a trade for a commission and am looking forward to working on it because it's so broken and beat to heck, that it will need some conversion work...(http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/uu122/gbarrelhouse_photos/cobra8.jpg)(http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/uu122/gbarrelhouse_photos/cobralance1.jpg)(http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/uu122/gbarrelhouse_photos/cobra7.jpg)IMG]http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/uu122/gbarrelhouse_photos/cobralance2.jpg[/IMG](http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/uu122/gbarrelhouse_photos/cobralance2.jpg)

that's great news that you've got a Talos, and in need of converting...it might just be your lucky day!
I look forward to seeing pics of that.
6 to 12 hours per mini is pretty decent (i am guessing that does not include converting time)

Well I have just undercoated my Talos and the box gives me no inspiration for a paint job. I think i'll paint it black with regal blue highlights...and a decent amount of blood.

One of the tougher old dark eldar minis to make look good!  After many trials and conversion ideas - my first shot at a Dracon!  If you know the mini  - yes I gave her a haircut and had to re-sculpt  that side of her head...(http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/uu122/gbarrelhouse_photos/dracon.jpg)(http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/uu122/gbarrelhouse_photos/dracon2.jpg)

I'll add my praise to gbarrelhouse's minis; some of the most orginal and well-painted minis I've seen anywhere.  :) You should definitely enter them in competitions, not only for personal reward, but to raise the profile of DE in general.

Here are a few of mine, painted over 5 years ago, but I'm slowly getting back into the hobby and am currently thinking about a Haemonculus or two on jetbikes.

I'm having trouble getting clear photos with my Canon Ixus 100 (any suggestions?), but you get the idea:

I think slightly modified guardians make great Raider squads.
So now I have two squads like this, one with red plumes and this lot with blue plumes. I really like the contrast between these squads and my traditional DE sniper Warrior squads. Just purchased the raider for this lot and hope to have that finished soon :D.

Recently decided to add in 6 Mandrakes to my list to see how they go. Only one with grass is complete, just about to highlight and grass the other 3 pictured here.

So far they have been a great addition to my army, I love the fact that they keep the enemy guessing as to where they will "pop" up.

Fluffy - The Dark Eldar found a corpse of a huge warp creature and gave it to some Haemonculi to "play with". They reanimated it and have this control ship hovering it onto the battle field.

My inspiration was a marionette I have.

Here's my own DE army, heavily converted as I like the army but not quite the models :p

My entire army in all its glory
(http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r265/NQJ/dark%20eldar/049.jpg)

My Archon and incubi, the one with the sword held high is a master and the two on the left have Blasters slung over the shoulders for some added antitank punch in addition to their punisher.

A selection of warriors with various weapons, the models the snubnosed weapons are blasters.

Ravager and raider
(http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r265/NQJ/dark%20eldar/059.jpg)

Sideview og ravager and raider
(http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r265/NQJ/dark%20eldar/060.jpg)

My heamonculi CC grotesques, follows the rules for wyches, my archon don't trust the wych cults and have her mad scientists produce some faster, but less durable grotesques.

Wych succubus and wyches with blasters (Yes, I'm totally abusing that due to old rules models don't switch their basis weapons when they upgrade to new weapons ^^)

The only two models in my army not converted
(http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r265/NQJ/dark%20eldar/064.jpg)

Stalkers and infiltrators (Mandrakes)

And finally a project I'm working on, Hellions, heavily WIP and I have a friend making a mould for the skyboard.

Lovely color sheme, as mine is also black/purple, I obviously love yours as well, though I did go into a less dark version of purple.

Updated my blog (http://) (had some trouble with photobucket)

I'll post a few spoiler pictures, hoping to attrack some people...

I really don't get why people say incubi look ugly, are these incubi supposed to be ugly?

Thank you very much. The scheme was from a tester Warrior I did (now purple in the main army) in bone. I liked it and decided that I'd use bone armour for leaders/ those of high rank. Notably the Archon, Dracon, Incubi and Raider pilots. I think pilots would be quite high ranking because Raiders are so important to the battle plan! I also really like the contrast to my warriors. Some one on warseer once said they looked kinda photo negative next to my warrs.

@ Kharandhil- Great minds eh? :P I think the Incubi models are gorgeous and they were a joy to paint. yours are nice and varied, i dont have any of the more interesting poses such as the Asdrubal Vect ones.

here are some early wip shots of the Dracon so you can see what I did:

I didnt like this weapon set up and thought the chest looked a bit cluttered.

Final model. used the weapon from my incubi master (see above image for his new armament- sword and shield not WYSIWYG but marks him out as different.)

Here's a shot of my talos:

I loved painting this model. Picked it up second hand, unopened in 1998 packaging for £15

This image shows the assembly of my Jetbike Archon:

I used the front of the old Harlequin bike, parts from the warriors, head from the High Elf chariot, Wych weapon and much more!

cheers

Just completed part of the Dracons' bodygaurd.  Lowly warriors who have to match her loud snake armor color!  Thought the bodygaurd should look different from standard warriors, so you see the guys normally on a raider (Vects' raider?) that I got as a 'throw-in' at a swap meet converted to stand out.(http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/uu122/gbarrelhouse_photos/bodygaurd2.jpg)(http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/uu122/gbarrelhouse_photos/bodygaurd1.jpg)

Just wondering, did you get the idea of using bra-less wyches by yourself or were you inspired by my wyches?

btw tryanotherone, his posters are still pretty ok, compared to what I have XD
in fact, I don't even dare to hang them on any wall.

well, a little of both, at 1st i wanted topless wyches, but could not figure out how to do it and make it look good, but yourse showd me the way to do it, now if only i can get the Dark Elf wyches to be topless... :P

I have some more topless wyches, just havn't had the time or will to paint them. I want some topless dark elf witches as well, but I kind of like their cloth bra lol. The same could be done as for wyches, just remove the cloth and somewhat keep the form of the breasts. Metal sculpting is the worst type of sculpting lol. I had to resculpt another wych, just for a conversion, it was a very small sculpting job, yet when I looked at the time I found out 2 hours had passed by like nothing.

PS: you're crazy gbarrelhouse, I can't imagine how long it will take to paint a full 2500 pts list like you're doing it.

Kharandil- If I didn't have to paint a bunch of role-playing minis all the time I may have actually had my 2000 points painted by now!  I think I'm taking my time because I want to have a good mix of new and old models.  For instance of my eight raiders, I'll buy four now, and four when the new ones come out.  I was dissapointed to find out where you live because it means most of us Americans won't have a chance to see that massive beautifully painted and converted Apocalipse force in action...
Some Incubi.  A struggle to make them look 'evil' instead of just silly...(http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/uu122/gbarrelhouse_photos/incubi2.jpg)(http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/uu122/gbarrelhouse_photos/incubi1.jpg)

Hi all,

This is my first time posting but I wanted to show my Dark Eldar army off.  I started last month with a battleforce.  I just have the jetbikes left to paint.  Here's my raider squad.  I created an agoniser for my Sybarite from the hands of Flayed Ones.  They're the Kabal of the Sixth Circle, somewhat Slaneesh based.  They wear his colors to mock him or something.  I just love pink and black.

I'm hoping to get the last 5 done soon and finish my jetbikes next week before doing a proper whole army shot!

Hello again,

I just wanted to include a few pictures of my new units.  I have another squad of warriors and five reaver jetbikes.  Next up, a new Ravager - then I start another whole battleforce.

lol I really like your army, the warrors the most, I don't think it was the point to do the same thing I do on mine, but I also kinda randomly paint armor parts purple and leave some parts just in black. Reavers look good, but they won't be that effective in battle :p
Title: Re: Show Your Dark Eldar (Pictures)
Post by: blang86 on May 11, 2010, 08:31:20 PM
Haha, thank you.  I'm not sure what I'm going to do with them either.  I just know that I can get a Battleforce for $75 - $85 new and 20 warriors plus a raider new is close to $70 so why not spend the extra money for some jetbikes  ;D

I have two Battleforces, maybe I'll buy a third but after that I don't know what I'd do with anymore warriors.  I put the base layer on my Ravager and gave it a wash.  Hope to finish it this weekend!  Also, working with someone to make a custom Archon since the GW one kinda stinks.

I think the drahzar model is the best base for a good archon, just look at this Wych lord I made:

Battleforces are indeed the reason why I also have 40 reavers, but I do use them in apoc, very rarely though. In most cases I only use 1 or 2 squads, or sometimes even no reavers at all.

I finally got one of my Ravagers painted.  As you can see, I took the board's advice about specializing your Ravagers.  Here is my tri-lance.  The next two Ravagers will be tri-dissie.

More pics on the blog.

Next, 20 more warriors.  I'm getting excited about the new models I'm hearing about.  I can't wait to paint some new Mandrakes if the rumors posted were true!

Ok i know i havent been on in months but i took a break, got back in a few weeks ago, here's what iv done since then.  Some light conversion work, and a great looking accident  :o

First, my Reaver character, he switches between lord and succubus a lot.. and i cant seem to find his punisher atm, he HAD a normal incubi punisher...

My Lord that i use more often than that converted farseer now.  I call the shield his Night Shield, and its quite obvious he has a punisher =P only problem is counting him as having a tormentor helm.. maybe i put one at his feet and say he took it off

My Incubi Master / additional lord, when i need him do be something.  I have kinda bad lighting, and he has dark colors, so i took one with flash and one without.

Now, i did this COMPLETELY on accident. My dad had gotten metallic spraypaint and i wanted to try it out on my ravager, so i taped all the gunners /mechanisms, and every other raised part of the armor, and this was what i got. Imagine my surprise when I peeled the tape off!

And yes, it IS still a work in progress =P

I eventually have my new phone, so here are some photos of the few warriors that I have painted yet =) Please comment, I need to find something to push me to paint more ^_^ The photos are more or less blurry, sorry about that, in addition to painting experience I need photoshooting experience ^^ And a better spot >_>"
Each one takes me several hours lol, so until I find a new way to paint them it will go slowly :D

Grouped shot. The one back left is unfinished (he doesn't even have hair!), the one back right has lost an arm (next time don't pass your hand outside of the raider, dumbass :P).
[smg id=3767]

Female Warrior front. I clearly need to train on painting flesh.
[smg id=3768]

Female Warrior back (this one is blurry).
[smg id=3769]

Ponytail Warrior front. Hate that badly moulded head... By chance it's not visible on a gaming table =]
[smg id=3770]

Ponytail Warrior 3/4 back.
[smg id=3771]

Proud Warrior front.
[smg id=3772]

Proud Warrior 3/4 back. (At last one almost not blurry ^^)
[smg id=3773]

That's it for now. I'll update this week-end with better lighted and better focused pics, but please tell me what you think :)

Firstly, to all the people who've posted picks, really nice work.
As for Robin de Tolens, your guys look really cool. As for taking hours on making them, don't worry about it too much. If the method works, and you keep using it, you'll get better and faster. My only suggestion is to try and put a bit of blood on the bayonets and blades. You don't have to, but I think it'll look cool.

I changed up how I paint the pink on my models - now I wash it with Baal Red before the final highlights.  What do you guys think?  The first model is the new look and the second is the old.

I feel the new look definitely brings out more definition.  It is also a hell of a lot easier to get an even look.  I might glaze the model with Tentacle Pink to soften the colors but I'm not totally sure of the effect.

Anyways, I'd love to hear what you think.  Also, is the color difference too noticeable?  I hope not because I'm not going back to paint all those Warriors  :'(

@ Blang86

I really like the new shading... definitely brings out the detail, especially on the weapons (one of the few places we have detail worth bringing out).

I'd have to admit it is a rather noticeable difference (at least on this model shown)... but it's still plenty coherent and would show a difference between warriors on foot and warriors in Raiders (or something similar) well.

Or if you get fed up and want to redo the rest (it'd probably happen to me... ha) at least it's some quick inking and then some highlights, and not a full repaint.  So that's a plus?

Either way, they look great.

Indeed, that shading looks really nice. If I try inks someday I might test this one =)

As for the difference between warriors, I'd say it's because some have armours that have been made more recently, and that the scheme used in the factory is not the same ^^ Teheh, I already use it to justify the fact that I don't always do the mix of Warlock & Skull quite the same :P (Though that's justifiable fluffily as my Kabal is quite small so painting may be done by the warriors themselves).
The difference is very visible form what I can judge, seeing the picture but I don't think that is much of an issue.

Yes, I noticed you also have pink DE.  If you get sick of mixing warlock purple and skull white I'd recommend ordering some Vallejo paints.  They still make tentacle pink (squid pink for Vallejo).  Also, don't be afraid to use the GW washes.  They're less like an ink and more like a glaze.  A glaze is a little thicker and easier to control.  Their old inks just ran around all willy-nilly.

Thanks for the feedback guys.  I'll probably just phase out all my models when the new Dark Eldar stuff comes out anyways.  I will slowly have a uniform army...I hope...

Well for those of you that like to have the Talos act like a fire magnet...  this guy will attract some attention!
I got it in a trade all beat-up, so that's why all the modifications.  He's heavily 'pinned', but I know he'll be a pain to put back together when he takes a fall.  Enough work that I think he'll be staying in my "new": dark eldar army when the models come out.  (http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/uu122/gbarrelhouse_photos/talos1.jpg)

Yeah, a talos will always fall, it's such a pain, during a battle, while movign to another house...it's inevitable.

I also fear that the talos might change so much, it won't be usuable or certainly won't be the same. The talos is one of those units I fear will change so much.

so i finally chose a color scheme and am getting around to painting my models, you should all be happy to know! ;D

First here's my most recently converted model.. just a hellion i got in a trade and some chaos tank bits + warrior blades.  Wasn't hard, but its now my dracite / succubus depending on what list i use.

Here are 3 of my raiders, painted up new scheme wise.  i do intend to pull the driver off of the one raider that has one.. i just don't like how they look.  you'll note that on one of the raiders i tore off that end piece entirely and made my own..
(http://i344.photobucket.com/albums/p323/zephyrrey/P7280372.jpg)(http://i344.photobucket.com/albums/p323/zephyrrey/P7280373.jpg)(http://i344.photobucket.com/albums/p323/zephyrrey/P7280374.jpg)(http://i344.photobucket.com/albums/p323/zephyrrey/P7280375.jpg)

And here are 3 warrior squads.  they aren't completely finished, but mostly.  i think theres like 5 guys left, maybe 6 or 7.

the Hair squad: My personal favorite... the blaster model is one of my favorite models in the army, and the sybarite has the dark eldar version of a chainsword :P
(http://i344.photobucket.com/albums/p323/zephyrrey/P7280377.jpg)(http://i344.photobucket.com/albums/p323/zephyrrey/P7280378.jpg)(http://i344.photobucket.com/albums/p323/zephyrrey/P7280379.jpg)

Here's the spike squad.. yea, im differentiating my squads given the heads.  the hair chick in the back is just till i buy another warrior box ;)

And everyone else.  again, hair chick is just a place holder.  things of note for this squad: in it are two of my most (in this area) notorious models.  The warrior who used to be my drazhar (now splinter cannon) and the warrior who went like 8 rounds of combat with a blood angel assault marine and didn't die.  The sybarite in this squad was built from a raider driver when i realized i needed one more warrior to complete my 1500(1700) point army for an upcoming tourny.. im not completely happy with how he came out, but it isn't horrible
(http://i344.photobucket.com/albums/p323/zephyrrey/P7280380.jpg)

I'll be finishing these guys up in a few days, then i need to do my two sniper squads... finish some wyches, and strip and redo my ravagers!

GW has been slowly discontinuing the line, perhaps in preparation of a new codex and model range. Most should still be there online though, your probably just seeing some conversions and thinking they are actual models.

Kabals are what dark eldar commonly organise into, think of it like a gang or clan.
Title: Re: Show Your Dark Eldar (Pictures)
Post by: yergerjo on August 12, 2010, 08:09:41 PM
Many of the models here come from other ranges, such as Warhammer Fantasy Dark Elves.

Kabal is similar to Chapter for Marines or Cadre for Tau. It's just the designation for organized groups of Dark Eldar.

Many DE models went to direct order over the past long while, most of the models may still be found in the green Citadel catalog.

Post by: tryanotherone - smurfernating on August 13, 2010, 05:41:20 AM
Don't forget that quite many DE minis in this thread were converted for more variation and / or uniqueness.

You will never see those minis in any GW shop ... online or otherwise.
Title: Dark Eldar Raiders
Post by: muppet on August 22, 2010, 07:47:30 PM
Thought I'd post up my Raiders that make up my latest 1750pt army that is about to be used at a tourny here in NZ. I have just recently made magnetic bases for all of these craft using a "Unimag" magnet which is a simular to the magnetix range of child's toys.

My list also includes 2 Talos which are not pictured here as they imploded while I was fixing them up to be used on a magnetic base.

Also a couple of close ups of the Raiders, I have single pics of all but I guess there is no need to post all of them here.

I would use some brighter thin highlights on the edges to make the dark pop out of the incubi, and also one small detail : a little hole in the T helmet (just a black spot) it is a gun after all...

Yeah you found my weakness - details.  I can't paint gems, barrel holes, accessories.  I know it's a necessary step towards improve to the next level.  Heck, I'm lucky to get the eyes done.

Oh no, be confident, you're an excellent painter, I'm surprised to see you say you have a hard time with the eyes. Gems, well you had the guide, they don't look bad, though I would have picked a different color, pink maybe.

Just another layer on the current , very thin highlights, some white + color you used ,untill you get a very bright color, apply thin line on the edges and the minis will look flawless.

Also purely personal, but you might like it (or not)  the skulls I would paint them in white or in skull color.

@muppet: Yes, please tell how you made that awesome skull.  Is it green stuff?

Yes it is green stuff, first I made up 1mm thick sheet of greenstuff and once dried cut out the shape of the skull.

From there I build up the skull into a 3D object, I was new to greenstuff so it took about 6 days to complete (mainly due to dry times)

BTW: Your Incubi look GREAT! I loooove Incubi

dry times? 6 days? Why do I have a feeling you did things wrongly?
Greenstuff, normally mixed needs several hours to harden, you have plenty of time to do the sculpting. btw yes you do the sculpting while it's not dry, sculpting greenstuff when it's dry is not the point, you do the finishing touches when it's dry.
If you want the greenstuff to harden faster, you have to add heat, I use a lamp, but there's a thing called a modelling oven who also works, I have used the oven method, but a lamp works just as  good, as long as you add heat. Just put it at several inches from the lamp and it will take about an hour to dry up, ofcourse don't put it too close or the plastic will melt. I don't always use a lamp, if I know I'm going to bed in a few hours, I'll just leave them on the side and wait till morning, sculpting work is done immediately , so in the morning I can watch my finished model : ).

Now that's a very nice conversion, not fantasy like, very 40k like.
The cape looks very good, maybe a little too much manga like, that's the only remark I can make on it.

The retinue looks very cool, too bad incubi aren't a retinue anymore, I'm sure the new retinue is very cool looking.

Good to see more, robe is a little bit too bright to my taste, I would have gone for a darker grey type with those same highlights. I always saw heamonuculi with paler skin, so to me skin could be paler, but I realise it's purely a personal choice.

I simply put a round barrel with some greenstuff on the stinger to make it a destructor, I like the stinger, but I prefer the destructor more for obvious reason, so several of my stingers were converted into destructors, I only kept a few intact.

I made this heamys skin colour really different purely because her head shape is SO unusual, and i just thought it seperates her more from her compadres, especially when shes leading a squad of wyches for instance. Good idea with the green stuff on the Des. - i should have thought of that lol!

Thanks for the feedback karandhil :)

Since I started playing DE, I have always used the classic Kabal of the Black Heart paint scheme from our original codex.

I've not been a fan of the Black with Green highlights that GW changed it to for the Vect model, nor of the updated version in our new codex.

Here is my re-imagined scheme, meant to enhance the natural details of the new models.

Here is my old Archon and a new Archon I've converted.

The Archon alone. Agoniser, Splinter Pistol, Plasma Grenades, Phantasm Grenade Launcher, Combat Drugs, Shadowfield.

A pair of Warriors with Splinter Rifles.

Initially I am using the new models as Syrabites or other "special" models while the old ones remain as they are. I gradually plan on replacing/copying my army into the new models (3 year plan basically). Eventually I'll have a double of my force which will be great for Apocalypse...

The original scheme was a base of black, with red helmets and gold trim on the shoulders. The new is a base of red, with black shoulder pads having gold trim, all under a dark black wash so that it is still a very black feel but the red comes through. Both sets of rifles are Dwarf Bronze. I tried to keep the original feel especially as I will be mixing some models.

What do you think? I'll show my Raiders once I finish my first.

Just something boredom does. It'll be one of my sybarite models and once the display board is all done up, the kroot will make more sense.

My very first dark eldar on what is going to become an extremely powerfull kabal.

Urien was painted as a prelude to the release of the new models and I finished him the day before I got the new models. The warrior was finished a few days later.

I have finished 3 other warriors since but no pictures have yet been taken so they will have to wait a while.

Hope you like these!

Hey there everyone ^^

New on the forum, bought my first box of DE today and finished my very first Kabalite :p

I used the black/red scheme that's featured on one of the miniatures in the codex and I love the combo. Love those miniatures so much, afraid my nids and Tau will get very neglected :p

Anyways, here's the first one, kind of an experiment, so feel free to C&C :)

PS. Sorry for the blurryness, wasn't able to take better pictures..

Hami's with Beasts

Most of the models were simple mage knight conversions, the Cronos ate up 16 mage knight models.  Enjoy!!

I'm starting to revamp my Kabal of the Sixth Circle.

Here's an old warrior:

...and the new:
(http://lh3.ggpht.com/_qK3zXM81DJc/TO2jc3DayxI/AAAAAAAAAfI/KIZ_ANTHDx0/s144/IMG_5986.JPG) (http://lh3.ggpht.com/_qK3zXM81DJc/TO2jc3DayxI/AAAAAAAAAfI/KIZ_ANTHDx0/s1600/IMG_5986.JPG)

There's a lot of missing details still.  Most of the pink and the armor are done.

I would add more pink on your warriors blang, like this it's too similar to the black heart Kabal, the pink + dark green was your signature and it looked great, without the pink your models look less good.

How did you built that razorwing flock?

Using bayonet bitz from the new kabalite warrior box set stuck into a ball of greenstuff then a scale hexnut for the eye. Decided for modelling purposes it was easier to go for a 'Phantasm' or 'Green Goblin Weapon' style as opposed to something more organic.

Purple was the color of royalty. I has a certain arrogance about it.

Black + yellow is scientifically the most eye-catching color to humans. Red + black is second.

white undercoat, full flaming orange coat, then lighter orange then two yellows followed by black brush, shadow blue highlight, some additional white highlights. weapons are vermin brown and bleached bone (gucci cruise 2011), blades are FOW german 'black', codex grey and white.

takes quite a while to complete each one... so it will be slow aether sailing.

No, we created Slaaanesh, unlike what came first the chicken or the egg, we clearly know who came first in this case.

Shame on you, you should be going to the chaos forum and telling guys who paint their daemons purple those are dark eldar colors!

Anyway, more purple warriors, the first bunch of new warriors with new color sheme. Amazingly the old and new color sheme mix very well together, both are purple based anyway.

Yo, thanks!

I'm very mediocre at painting, its easy with attempts to highlight twice using red gore then redgore 1:1 with fiery orange.

The blueish/grey highlights on armour and guns is the old 'hideous blue' GW color, a slightly bluer and lighter version of shadow grey.

the blue hair is enchanted blue lightly drybrushed 3 times with increasing mix of skull white

the skin is a coat of dheneb stone

Not sure if I want my army to have a unified feel, I ike the idea that DE armies are assembled from disparate groups all working i their own self interest.

Feedback good or bad very welcome :)

ooooh i like your archon! very nice. as it happens my deldar are being painted up with a bone/white theme.

i also like the different factions of the DE army being painted differently so cool there also. the only thing i can i can say is although your wyches are nicely painted, the paint scheme you have chosen is SUPER common like crazy super common. now i think it works as it is a nice scheme and it offsets nicely with your uncommon archon theme.

other than that really nice work man.

white DE ftw!

I agree on the wyches being super common. Its the Red Grief colour scheme.

I did them before I relised and was considering painting the suits white to tie them in with the Archon.

I am not sure if it will work but I will do a test model before I paint my other two squads.

I FINALLY decided on a colour scheme... this model is still WIP and i quite literally went right back to the start and have gone with the all typical kabal of the black heart.... but my way.... I've still got lots of edge highlighting left to do and other details but here's the main jist of it.... what are peoples opinion on my take of the scheme.... i see it as 'old school' remember... it's not finished yet...(http://i877.photobucket.com/albums/ab337/Prince_Sliscus/TestModel.jpg)

Amazing use of both white and purple. Really well done.
In general, I have to admit that the Dark Eldar models turned out even better than I expect them. They lend themselves really well to most colors, nut just dark ones.

This is my version of the Duke.  The main body is the metal Archon and the arms are plastic from the Warrior and Wych kit. I chopped up the right sword arm from the Warrior kit to turn it into a left arm.  Going with the Pirate aspects of the character, I used the head from the Dark Elf Corsair with an eye patch.  The winged critter flying behind him is a wood elf sprite I painted up and hacked up the wings.  Wanted it to look like some strange poisonous creature that he may have. Was picturing a 'alien parrot' sort of thing for it. Here he is, sorry for the blurryness of the image.

My dark eldar will in all likelyhood be the last of my armies (4 should be enough).

And as such I wanted it to look its best. I'm not the best painter in the world but I've done my best at each mini and who can ask for more...

I really hope you like them, and I would love(!) some feedback

Here is a bonus model for this month.

I absolutely loved the Warhammer Fantasy Arachnarok Spider. I hate all things Fantasy. So I was presented with a quandary; how do I incorporate it into my Dark Eldar army. It could easily be a Talos or Parasite Engine.

After much contemplation I decided not to do any conversion. I mean why couldn't a Haemonculus just make a giant spider from scratch. Or adapt an alien one to its purposes. So without further ado here is how it came out:

By the way the model is brilliant and stupendous. It has perfect instructions and just the right cross between a spider and a crab. As an added benefit I am using all the small spiders on the sprew for Razorwing beasts. I can't think of anything quite so scary as a horde of spiders eating through your power armor.

I would make the horns thinner, models looks fine, I rather like, except for the horns, the latest dark eldar have tiny thin horns, blades, etc... your horns should be no different, like on your avatar.

Title: Re: Show Your Dark Eldar (Pictures)
Post by: Ciirian on April 10, 2011, 09:37:39 PM
Yeah, I need to thin them down, just not sure how.  Thinking I might just clip them off all together, reattatch them and then sculpt hair better around them.  I was going for a style similiar to my avatar.  Thanks for the compliments for him.

Squadron WIP!

aaaand I couldn't resist picking this guy up at Legionary for a fiver.

Will be used as my Archon or Dracon (considering a unit of trueborn with blaster spam in a venom...)

Pretty involved conversion. Cut of his silly flared leg and added an old plastic one and added some gubbins from the dire avengers. He got a nice knife from the hellions, an agoniser and blast pistol from the wyches and a rather complex rebasing procedure.

Hoping to finish off the third venom soon. It was too much of a time commitment to do two at once (I began by batch painting).

Title: Re: Show Your Dark Eldar (Pictures)
Post by: Crazy_Irish on May 10, 2011, 03:57:52 PM
Thank you, They are dark lances that a shortened XD

But still 4, so with 40 Warriors you get 4 True Blasters and 4 to be cut blasters.

Cool, hoping to get a box of the new warriors next week.

I finished painting the third Venom:

triplets!

I am very very happy with how these three have come out; they have been the most extensive vehicle conversion I've ever carried out and I think I've managed to make them fit with the new DE vibe whilst tying them to my old DE minis and scheme.

I was overjoyed the other night when twitter informed me that the next DE wave was up for advance order. Especially since they come out 10 days after my birthday, when I should still have some money :)

I'm definitely getting two boxes of scourges asap as they are stunning IMO.
I'll also probably get one Venom and do an HQ transport with it. I don't like the model enough to replace the three I've made. Which is a good thing tbh.

so thoughts? comments? criticisms?

A.

Cool conversions, I find them pretty similar to the new version, a bit like you said, old conversions, but they'll fit in nicely. Not a fan of tiny fragile vehicles, but as far as modelling, they're only a joy to work on.

Eventually you can always make some minor modifications, like my old beast master, I wanted him on a board, but he was painted, no problem, I tried to keep as much intact as possible.

First of all, I love seeing all these miniatures, keep up the good work ^^

I've posted my very first model here months ago, a kabalite warrior, and I figured could just as well post my progress :) Decided to call my army the Kabal of the Crimson-Edged Stars, referring to the amount of bloodshed displayed when they raid realspace. I still need a name for a coven though, unfortunatly.. Anyways, I'm pretty happy with the results, hope you all like it too :)

I've just signed up, so I figured I'd share my small DE force with some other DE players :)

My figures aren't amazing by any means (especially compared to some of the stuff in this thread), but I'm happy enough with them. They're also the first lot of figures I've attempted to paint faces on so I think they came out well considering its the first time I've tried that

Great painting.

And very fast as well. The models have not even existed a year yet, and allready you've accomplished this much. Thats really impressive as far as I'm concerned

Comparing to me, I have only painted 22 dark eldar models so far. (Becoming a dad a few months ago, didn't exactly give me extra painting time neither  ;) )

Thanks :D

And yeah, I paint very quickly. The stuff I have at the moment was painted over the course of about 3 months. On average, I think each unit took me about 10-15 hours with the Succubus and Lelith taking about 3-4 hours each

wow, very nice job man. Compared to me i've only paint larger stuff. 3 Ravagers, and 5 Raiders. Just can't seem to find the motivation to paint at the moment.

Thanks :D

I much prefer painting infantry over larger stuff if I'm honest. I don't particularly like working on large flat surfaces

Sorry for the bad photo! Its very late and I just finished them ;P (except basing).

I enjoyed painting these, the leader was converted because of a polycement spillage that wrecked one set of wings, and almost all the heads (hand problems still recovering ;P ). But I like the result, I think exotic and creepy?

The dark eldar codex mentions sun cults in the book, and I think this army will be from the archon of one such cult :)

Please let me know what you think of my quick and cheerful painting :)

Thanks!

Anyone gone with the dark red colourscheme?

Planning on mixing Mechrite Red with Chaos Black to get a very very dark red basecolour then highlight the edges with Mechrite Red -> Blood Red -> Blazing Orange.

Thought I’d share my Bloodspray Kabal.
Detailed shots of the various models can be found on Flickr, along with more information about the paint scheme:  Dark Eldar - a set on Flickr (http://www.flickr.com/photos/jjtweed/sets/72157629420218707/)

The force started life as the old Dark Eldar Battle Force in 2008, but lay dormant for a while until I resurrected it shortly before the new codex was released. It’s now up to about 2000 pts (the combined value of the models is a bit higher, but I can’t field 3 HQ and 4 HS in a standard FOC).

Fluff-wise, my Dread Archon Luseferous is one of Duke Sliscus’ right-hand men, whose Bloodspray Kabal took one of the three Flagships which he absconded with in his spectacular departure from Commoragh.  Despite living life as a pirate exile now, Luseferous maintains a number of alliances within the Dark City, ensuring that he has the tools he needs for his debauched raids, and allies to turn to if his relationship with Sliscus sours.

The components of my force can be found on the key below, if you can’t make them out from the description alone.

HQ
Dread Archon Luseferous – Converted from a Kabalite Warrior, with some Tau bits for trophies – counts as Duke Sliscus (11)
Two Haemonculi – Sybia and Sessine, from the Prophets of Flesh coven (10)
Drazhar, Master of Blades – although I usually use him as a standard Klaivex (12)

ELITES
3 Kabalite Trueborn – The Penetrating Dark (11)
5 Incubi – The Lords of the Falling Blade (12)

TROOPS
2 x 10 Kabalite Warriors – Crystal Pain and Obsidian Oath (5)
2 x 10 Wyches – The Knife Wind and A Thousand Blades, from the Cult of the Red Grief (9)
5 Wracks – Sybia’s Children (10)

FAST ATTACK
5 Hellions – The Thrice Cursed (4)
5 Reaver Jetbikes – The Bloodied Spear (8 )

DEDICATED TRANSPORTS
1 Raider and 1 Venom (3)

HEAVY SUPPORT
1 Cronos (6)
1 Talos (7)
1 Razorwing Jetfighter (1)
1 Ravager – Storm of Darkness – Converted from an old Raider and a new Ravager.  This will be my Dais of Destruction when I have converted a model for Vect, but for now I just use it as a Ravager (2)

Recently bought some scourges, threw them together. No heavy conversion work or anything, they're just awesome models.

6E gave me an idea for how to combine DE and CW:E so to go with that idea I'm calling the armor color "wraithbone" Basically, both sides ended up trying to combine the arts of the DE (power from pain) with wraithbone to make living armor and vehicles powered by suffering instead of spirits of fallen Eldar. I'll post the CW:E I'm painting now once I finish them

Welcome E. So you're a fan of the bloodied up models. Very nice, don't see that much anymore. They all look good, colorful. Keep at it.

I just wanted to point out how great these armies are.  The clean lines, the superb color choices, and each army demonstrates how something can look sinister with a light color scheme or a dark one.  And I love the veins on E.a.Hesperax's wings.
