Dark Elf Mini Diorama
« on: March 19, 2017, 12:52:25 PM »
Hi everyone,

I finished this little diorama to give to a friend as a gift.

If anyone wonders about the cat, I added it to the model as my friend is a real cat fancier. :)

I really enjoyed painting the green marble effect.  If anyone is interested in how to do this, I followed the tutorial in this video:

How To Paint Green Marble - YouTube

Cheers :)

That's really nice malicant. Is that your first attempt at a marble effect because if it is you have executed it brilliantly.

My favourite thing about it though is how you have painted her skirt. There is a tangible velvety texture to it that is simply amazing.

Did you make the dais/altar yourself?

Wow! Love it Malicant. The paint job on the Sorceress is phenomenal... love the skin tone and the little cat is fantastic! The altar looks great too... where did you get it?

Incredible job on the green marble.... I thought it was a tile you bought from the hardware store or something. Phenomenal!

Always stoked to see you post... always something really unique and incredibly well executed. Fantastic work as always!

My god, Malicant that thing is beautiful!
The highlighting work on the model itself is superb and that marble effect is amazing.
Seriously great job!

Thank you all for such kind replies :)

This was my first attempt at the marbling effect.  I actually painted this model specifically because I wanted to try it out, and I figured that it was a good way to use it.

The plinth is actually an old metal LOTR piece, which was sitting in my bitz-box for the last 12 years or so.  I can't recall the set from which it came, but it was one of the metal movie-scene sets that GW released back in the day.

The cat model is a reaper miniature.  It came from a familiar pack:

The same pack includes an adorable little hedgehog, which I'll have to find a place for at some point :)

Thanks all!

That makes it even more impressive. Did you practice on something first? What is the marble base made of?

I am sure that this is the first time the word adorable has been used on this site.

It's just a sheet of plasti-card.

Tremendous piece of work Malicant. The colours work so well together, the brush work is excellent and it's all finished perfectly by the marble floor.

I don't think there's anything on this model that I would even consider altering in any way. Pretty much a perfect piece!

Nice job, I'm sure your friend will be stoked to receive this!
