70-100 years of living, now what?
« on: January 18, 2004, 07:23:01 AM »
Afterlife, is there such a thing?

Some think that we live forever in different bodies (hindus).

Others claim that we go to some sort of paradise (christians, muslims).

Personally I think that afterlife is a very deep sleep.

Perhaps this IS the afterlife...
Perhaps this is some sort of pre-life...
Perhaps the afterlife consists of nothing but eternal darkness...
Perhaps Hell is the only alternative...
Perhaps this is Hell...
Perhaps this is Heaven...
Perhaps this is only a dream...
Perhaps the afterlife is an eternal dream...

There is only one way to find out...

I, personally, can´t comprehend an afterlife. I´m not saying there isn´t an aftelife, rather that I have no idea or thoughts of an afterlife, perhaps because my mind cannot understand what comes after life, it cannot understand anything but my routine of eating, seeing the world, feeling the wind in my face, sleeping, seeing the sun set, and then rise in a roubinesque glow...

Or perhaps I love life so much I don´t want to die. But an afterlife is a very interesting idea. ;)

"Eventually, all things merge into one, and a river runs through it. The river was cut by the world's great flood and runs over rocks from the basement of time. On some of the rocks are timeless raindrops. Under the rocks are the words, and some of the words are theirs.
I am haunted by waters." - Norman Maclean, A River Runs Through It

Why are you asking an unanswerable, unprovable question? It's just gonna be a Beliefs vs Unbelievers flamefest, and get put into the the main thread. Yes, I believe in the afterlife, I believe in Hevean and Hell. I believe "what we do in life echoes in eternity."

Yes, I am holding off assimilating this into the main thread. I am waiting to see some sort of relevant difference. I am not impressed yet.

Personnaly i hope the afterlife which i belive in, isn't  deep sleep because sometimes my mind can concuct very disturbing things which sometimes seem so real. Sometimes i'm sure i feel pain in my dreams if i dream about fighting. One time i dreamt my brother was strangling(sp?)
me, i was chocking in my sleep, when i finaly woke up i realised i had rolled on to my front.

Anyway i want the afterlife to be a paradise, where you can do what you want. I could play 40k and fantasy all day or whatever i felt like.

Maybe when we die all the good people go to hell and the bad go to heaven?

Frankly either it will when we die that's it you're life is over and your thoughts, feelings, everything that is you dissapears or something happens which I doubt we would ever guess...

It actually scares me to think about what happens after death.  It's kind of an irrational fear I have.  I start thinking along the lines of, what if there ins't an after life, what if it's just nothing.  a dreamless thoughtless sleep..forever? where this is it...
but anyway, who knows, what if they develop a vaccine that doubles the human life span?  then you have 140-200 years of life, then the question is not what you do after, but what you do during.  I mean 200 years, think about it..Thats as old as some countries.

As I see it, we only have one go, so why not make the most out of it?

And then I don't mean robbing banks or anything loony like that.

yes, despite whatever faith you have, you can only be reasonably sure that you are alive now, you cannot be sure how this situation is going to change. So its usually best to make the most of it.

Personally i would emphasise enjoying what you already have rather then seeking more of what you want. Robbing banks will make you no happier (and a good deal more stressed) then if you decided to walk in the park every day (or whatever floats your boat).
