ALL VOWS MUST BE IN BY FEBRUARY 10th

Welcome to the January Painting Challenge. We are now into the 2nd year of these, first under Loydb, Khemri Demon and now me. The goal of this challenge is to get some of that unpainted lead that most of us have laying around table-ready. At the start of each month, participants pledge to have a squad painted by the closing date.

I'll list vows made, name and praise those that make it and name and shame those that don't.

You can expect to be 'reminded' of your vow around the 20th of the month if we don't see any further posts after you make the vow.

I'll also compile a gallery of completed vow photos before the thread is locked at the end of the month, so don't just claim a vow is complete, show us!

This one will run for December, January and February. (Note that this is three one-month challenges, not one three-month challenge.)

A squad, for the purpose of definition, would be anything that counted as a unit choice (e.g. HQ, Elite, Troop, etc.). This includes retinue for the independant char (e.g. familiars, bodyguards, etc.). I'd personally like to see multi-model squads -- the purpose of the challenge is to get a bunch of lead painted in a 3-month period -- but maybe you're planning on doing a kickass conversion/paint job for an army leader, nothing wrong with that.

RULES

1. Vows will be frozen 10 days after the start of the challenge. There is no changing of *any* vow after day 10. Say what you'll paint, then paint what you say. If you don't already own the models you want to paint, I suggest not making the vow until you do.

2. This is more of a request than a rule. *Please* post work in progress pics if you possibly can. One of the best things about the thread is watching stuff come together.

3. The model doesn't have to be texture based -- but the base must be painted.

4. Vows in parenthesis/brackets are essentially maybes and therefore won't count towards a fail if you don't do them.

Painting Challenge FAQ

Q: Do I have to do Games Workshop figs?
A: No. Several people make Warmachine vows. Since Warmachine doesn't use squads in the same way that 40K does, I suggest that it be at least a 3-man squad (Menoth Choir, etc.), or a warcaster + at least one warjack.

Q: I need to change my vow!
A: You have until Day 10 of the month.

Q: What if I don't have a camera?
A: We operate on the honor system. If you say you did it, we believe you. There are no prizes, so you only get the satisfaction of lying on the internet if you choose to do so.

Q: Will you do one of these every month?
A: That's the goal. Assuming the board manages to stay up

Q: Hey, what if we finish our vow but decide to paint more?
A: Paint away! If you mean, can you get a head start on next month, I guess so. But it's kind of cheesy to make a vow with a 75% painted unit at the start of the month...

Q: I want to paint a squad of Howling Banshees and a single Ranger. Is the Ranger legal?
A: Yes. The "must count as a troop choice" rule establishes the minimum. Anything above that doesn't have to conform, it's just bonus.

Q: When is the closing date?
A: The month runs with the calendar month. Vows freeze on the 11th.

Thanks to Loydb for getting this up and running (come back any time), and Khemri Demon for continuation. Lets see those vows

Up and running then for the third and last of the winter challenges. I'm struggling for painting time at the moment, so I'll go with just a raider for now.

The gallery for january will have to wait a day or two.

Incidentally, only 4 of us are on course for a clean sheet: Me, MGT, Myung and Harlean have completed both months so far....

The girlfriend started her new job so time is my ally for painting. I'm going to vow 9 chaos raptors + aspiring champion and a rhino to go with my possessed I did in month 1, an aspiring champion for the possessed I did in month 2 (I've got both wings I need now).

IFF I get time and the ambition to rip apart one of my possessed for the extra limbs needed, I'm going to do up and aspiring champion for the squad I did in month 1.

well I am sorta going to cheat but I have a good reason!

my vow this month is

26 Necron Warriors
6 Flayed ones
5 Necron Pariahs
1 Necron Wraith
1 Monolith
and 10 Scarab Bases

now as far as the cheating part, meaning I am like 70% done with all those models already, but will make that my vow as I am moving 1300 miles in like 2-3 weeks for a promotion.  :-\

but this will complete all my Necrons on I own. only took 2 months for this army rather then 3 for my Tau. So much easier, I like easy lol!

8,000 pts Imperial Guard - 3,000 pts Tryanids

2,000 pts Chaos - 1 Massive Crack Addiction

Well, I am going to give myself an even lighter vow than I did last time. I paint like an old woman anyway, and I don't get home to my models until the 10th. And then on February 23rd Final Fantasy XII comes out, forcing me to go into deep aestivation with my telly.

So, I vow...
1. To complete the two DA's I didn't finish last month
2. To paint two more from scratch.
3. *Maybe* to paint the jetbike of my Autarch. This is being posted from Russia, so I don't know when I will get it.
You can put that down as "5 Dire Avengers" if you want.

By the way, Mime, I really liked your wraithlord. The yellow is really crisp and nice. It's a pity your not going to go any further with it.

Cheers, Mem
Man: Er... excuse me?
FMG: Yes? I am a doctor, you know.
Man: I was just wondering...
FMG: Get on with it. I'm a Doctor. My time is precious.
Man: Well, it's just...
FMG: My god, man, do you even know what that word means? Let me spell it out: D O C T OR. 6 years of medical school. A PhD.
Man: Look I really...
FMG: I'm the person who makes this whole hospital work...
Man; Look mate, you're  going to have to give me 50p for that paper or get out.

Vows updated.

Welcome back to returning regulars, particularly MGT, Myung and Harlean who are on track to complete the triple vow this month. Welcome to new vowers also, Longshanks and Parak I believe.

Yentz - did you lock the other thread? I was going to do the gallery tonight. Never mind, most of the complete pictures were on the last page anyway.

Well, I didn't manage to send you a Pm, so I'll have to post here since you seem to wonder how big the Warp Spider unit I vowed to paint is. Its a unit of 6 models(including an exarch).
