Fluff Question: Are there ex-harlequins?
« on: December 28, 2010, 09:39:47 PM »
Simple enough question...

Is there any hint/writings/canon/fluff that would suggest that a harlequin might leave his/her troupe, to live again among the exodites/craftworld/dark eldar? Or is it "once a harlie, always a harlie"?

Being that they are the followers of the Laughing God, and are on his benefits plan (no loss of soul to Slannesh excepting the Solitaire), I would say no... but I seem to recall a story/blurb about a troupe that was performing, and they discovered a Solitaire living among a craftworld (although one could say he was still a harlequin, just not traveling).

I have no motive for this question... just curious :)

The solitaire was their solitaire, and they dont live with the troupe, but randomly show up. So what happened was as they were doing the play, he popped up, as he had been hiding in the craftworld for some time waiting, and they did the Fall, which is one of the few he is needed for. That is how I remember it as least

There is no fluff on any ex-harlies, and given the trials and changes they go through to actually attain it, it is not something you go back from, I would say. It changes them, and more radically now than in 2nd ed as they have no stone now, and have to rely on their Patron to protect them upon death.

Lost Roads - finally released!

I agree with rasmus, the training they go through is so hardcore that it changes them completely into chaos hating eldar. Harlies travel together in small troupes till death. It's clearly one of the most devoted factions that clearly won't go back on its training and believes.

Gav Thorpe was asked a similar question: "Are Harlequins trapped on a Path like the Exarchs are?" His answer is interesting even if it does talk rings around the answer.

Link

fixed.

The link doesen't work because of the new anti-spam law  :)
The word 'politics' is derived from the word 'poly', meaning 'many', and the word 'ticks', meaning 'blood sucking parasites'.

I actually think this answer of Thorpe is a really satisfying one. It is a (too) short one, but it gives a nice summary of the different ways of the Eldar race.

Thanks for fixing the link btw.  ;)

Sorry about that. As Katamari says, it seems I fell foul of the anti-spam gods. Think of my first attempt more as a pointer than a link.

Only ten more posts and I earn my linking privileges.  ::)
