That green looks great.  You've managed to avoid falling into the trap that I have done on the few occasions that I've painted anything by not making it too bright.  The shading is also very realistic.

Thank you!

I'll second that! Looks like the beginnings of a striking colour scheme on the battlesuit too with red, black, grey and white. Brave of you to use white on those big flat surfaces. Looking forward to seeing more!

How far Krootox models have come by the way. The first incarnation from way back when couldn't have been more static whereas this one is just right.

Thank you!

So just an announcement - I am selling my T'au! Definitely leaped into too many projects. Falling back on Mechanicus, Aeldari, and Daughters of Khaine for the moment. When I get some more work done - I'll be preparing to expand into High Elves for The Old World.

Also here are some images from some battles my Ad Mech has fought against Astra Militarum!

Man, it's been a rough few years for TWW3, but things seem to be kinda coming together now, finally.

1500 Points Beasts Vs Overlords: Realmstone Cache

Dearest Uncle,
It is fair sailing thus far over the bone wastes. Desolate country, as you warned, but there is a certain austere beauty to it. There has been no sign of the beast-men lurking about, so all those horror stories you terrified me with before leaving seem to have been for naught. Ha ha.

The admiral thinks we can find good trading here. While the creatures that inhabit this place are degenerate and untrustworthy, they like aethergold as much as anyone else. We have a promising lead, too: in speaking with the locals at the last trading post, they told of a huge cache of realmstone uncovered in a village not far away. We are headed there now, with all dispatch, as the admiral fears the beasts will make it there before us and use it for their own foul ends. I have charted our course, and none fly as swift as the ships of Barak Zilfin!

Yours, with utmost respect,
Darri Maskelport, Aether-Navigator, 2nd Class

This game took place a few months back, so apologies if some of the details are fuzzy (been a busy spring)

Barak Zilfin Battle Regiment

Admiral (General w/Command Trait of some kind)
Aether-Navigator (Command Trait that re-rolls navigator dice, Auto-dispel artefact)

10 Arkanaut Company (1x Volley gun, 1x Harpoon, 1x Skypike, Veterans: Tough as Old Boots)

6 Edrinriggers
6 Skywardens

Arkanaut Frigate w/Skycannon + self-destruct mechanism
Arkanaut Frigate w/Skycannon + Preservation Chutes

Allherd Beastherd (no battalion)

Great Bray Shaman w/Bleating Gnarlstaff (General: Twistfray Cursebeast, Spell: Wild Rampage)
Doombull

20 Gors w/Shields (Grizzled Veterans: Exemplars of Valor, Fleet of Foot)
10 Ungors w/Spears (Veterans: Wilderness Stalkers)
10 Ungors w/Spears (Veterans: Wilderness Stalkers)

6 Tzaangor Enlightened
6 Bullgors w/Man-splitter Great Axes (Veterans: Toughened Hides)
1 Cygor

Herdstone
Doomblast Dirgehorn

Mission, Terrain, and Deployment
The Realmstone Cache mission has a single objective at the center of the board which, at turn 3, explodes and becomes 2 new objectives in other spots on the board. The terrain was a desert-type board with little adobe houses around the edge of the board and a well at the center, right next to the objective.

My opponent chose the south edge of the board and threw down a frigate on each flank, the east with the Admiral and the west with the Navigator, betting that it would be harder for me to ambush and kill a whole frigate than one of his fragile little units. The Endrinriggers and Skywardens formed potent counter-charge units and the Arkanaut Company took up the middle.

I deployed the Herdstone at the northern edge, next to the Cygor and guarded by the Gors. I threw one unit of Ungors behind a building at the northern edge, and everything else went into ambush.

Deployment:

Arkanaut DZ
Beasts DZ
Whole board (from the East)

And so it begins. All my Daughters of Khaine are built and now primed. Painting to commence soon. The idea is to have the entire army done by AoS 4th drop date. I believe I can complete them by then.

Hi everyone!

It's been a bit, hasn't it? A Sanctum of Swords: Embers Edition is building up to completion of the last milestone before launch - audiobook production.

In fact - this is what Blog Entry #4 - Breathing Life into Narration is actually about - the audiobook and a closer look at the character cast and some of the thoughts that went into their design.

Take a look in the link below!

Right now production is beginning to really get going - there's still a road left ahead of us!

Cheers! They did take a lot of time but I'm happy with the end result. How inconsiderate of your children to make demands on your time. ;) My son is doing the exact same thing too now. You'd think they'd just be grateful for being born and get on with their own lives, right?

Anyway, here's a quick update on my progress. I blue-tacked the horsies to their bases to get a better idea of how the unit will eventually look.

The chasseurs themselves are in the background, a bit miffed about sitting on those screws for all that time.

Meanwhile, one lucky chasseur has moved on to the tip of a pen to serve as a test figure. Here's a few WiP shots.

I'm not sold on the colours yet. I'm pretty happy with the green but the yellow's a tad too bright for my liking. I started with the green base colour, washed it, highlighted it, then did the yellow in several coats. It's pretty nerve wracking because I have to be very neat with the yellow every single time until I've covered the green with it. I'd rather do the yellow first so I can just slop it on quickly, then do the green afterward, both in one coat. Then I wouldn't be able to use the ink anymore though, because I can't control it well enough to keep it off of the yellow.

There's also this tiny detail: The Perry twins' chasseurs à cheval have a reference sheet that makes their uniforms out to be so dark they're almost black... I trust the Perries' research more than Warlord Games' box art. I will have to think of something to darken up that green. Not quite as dark as the Perries' reference sheet though because this is still supposed to be fun. And bright colours are fun. Because Napoleonics. Or maybe I'll keep the colours as they are because I really don't feel like repainting the saddle rolls on the horses at this point. Decision decisions...

I did another test figure. Enjoy!

Side-by-side comparison of the first and second test figures:

I decided the second figure needed an additional highlight, which looked like this:

Painting method:

Figure 1:
Green:
- Vallejo 70.891 Intermediate Green basecoat
- Vallejo 72.090 Black Green ink
- Vallejo 70.891 Intermediate Green highlight
- (I think that's it for the green but it's been a while since I painted this one and my memory's hazy on the details.)
Yellow:
- Vallejo 72.005 Moon yellow highlight in 2-3 thin layers

Figure 2:
Yellow:
- Vallejo 72.006 Sun Yellow basecoat
Green:
- 70.896 Vallejo German Camo Extra Dark Green basecoat
- 50/50 70.896 Vallejo German Camo Extra Dark Green/Vallejo 70.891 Intermediate Green layer
- Vallejo 70.891 Intermediate Green layer
- Vallejo 70.942 Light Green highlight

I'm definitely using the darker yellow. Looks much better. I'm not yet sure about the green though. Layering the paint on the second model was fun and being able to do the yellow before the green (minus some spot cleaning) was a relief. Not sure it's quite the shade of green I'm looking for though. I can't seem to make up my mind. Perhaps I'll keep experimenting and run out of test models before I find a green I'm sure I like. Any thoughts?

Well....Wow! And the slave girls? From the same?

Oh, hah, no. That one is the Blood Cat Mistress and Blood Cats from Raging Heroes' Vampire Host range. I generally find that Raging Heroes can be a little... Shall we say, overly sexualised with some of their ranges (their Eldar knockoffs are ok) but she liked these ones, so those are what I paint.
