New Pics of the Painted Super Heavy Thunder Hawk
« on: November 16, 2008, 11:27:21 AM »
Hi All,

Just a little project that I have been working on over the past couple of weeks.
I hope you like her as she not quite finished yet, This project as cost me in the region of £25.00, most of this was on paint and glue.
Parts come from an old starwars ship (broken) toilet inners and facia board.

She has a 16" wing span and body length is 11 3/4"

Just got to think of a good colour scheme for her now, just don't want plain Blue

Looks very nice.

How long did it take you to finish the TH?

Also, how about a tutorial?

she still not finished yet just afew little things to do, she has taken me about 4 weeks.

I started her with a template from IRONHANDS, but the materials he said was too expensive, so I went and go some cheap plastic facia board from Wicks 10mm thick for the body.
I cheated on the wings, these are from a old starwars toy, but the effect is good.
I have made the wings and legs demountable for easy carriage.
Top support wings are from 5mm thick facia trim from wicks. The top gun and mounts are from a toilet inlet valve which I found at work in the bin.
Legs are from the same old starwars toy.

Main engine yep u guessed it the same toilet inlet valve, with a cone added to the end for effect.

The underbelly also has parts from the SW TOY and plastic corrugated small tubes for fuel lines.

The front leg was mad from and old toy seat and a 22mm pipe clip.

The bolter gun turrets are home made as well, these are different parts from 4 toilet inlet valves, the main missiles are made from rawl plugs with inserts at the end for effect of missile engines.

Armour plating is thin 0.40mm plastic cut to different sizes.

To get all the different plastics to glue to gether it was a must to use super glue. (plenty of)

She will take about another 2 weeks to finish off, depending on time, I only spent 1 hour per night and 2 hours at the weekends doing this project.

However when coming to paint her this will take more time that the building.

This is most important to all would be builders: I don't have special skills in model building nor do i have special tools. My tools for building her are: Stanley Knife, Hacksaw, Sand paper and a screw driver.

All I can say to you all, you will not know if you can do it, unless you try first, like i did.

I am happy the way she has turned out, so next project will be a:

WAR LORD TITAN

all the best

Dark ::)

I will post the templates and full building later.

Time to go out, see ya all later

1. Do not double post (post one after another).  Use the modify button.
2. Do not link to templates, it's against forum rules as it runs a fine line on copyright laws.  Understandably a profiteering company prefers people not to circulate ways to make their models without paying for them.
I carry with me an Inquisitorial Seal. It is a small, unassuming object contained in a neat box of Pluvian obsidian. It is a modest thing. Relatively plain, adorned with a single motif and a simple motto. Yet with this little object I can sign the death warrant of an entire world and consign a billion souls to Oblivion.

Actually, I didn't mean / ask for templates. What I was asking for was a picture tutorial, i.e. a blog on fast forward.

Not bad at all. The only thing I'll say is that at 11andabit inches long it's actually shorter than the standard one by a good 8 inches. But apart from that niggling little detail, very cool

She is not that short, the body length is bout 18" from front tip to main rear engine, as you can see by the photo these are 18" square slabs.
The main body was cut to 11 3/4" before every else was added like the main engines and the front door giving the extra length to take her to 18" long.

Your Tunderhawk looks fantastic.

I agree on the highlighting, though, and some battledamage would look good, too. :)

All in all, very good work.

yes. Very nice. I would reccommend trying to make the blue look not so... flat... Otherwise, very nice. I like the warning stripes around the engines.
