Converting Wraithguards
« on: May 20, 2006, 03:46:47 AM »
Hi, Ive just bought a squad of Wraithguards and looking at the model im a bit dissapointed with the triangukar neck thingy so i decided that i had to do some modifications on it.

My plan is to saw the head of, so i can green stuff the hole area in the body. That way i dont have to have the neck thingy. Then im gonna remove the back antenna that the wraithguard have and add another, so that it gets one antenna on each shoulderblade, like the guardians. Hopefully this will make the wraithguard feal a bit bigger and more "alive".

Well, im gonna post pics of him as soon as im done with the drilling and sawing.

Is there anyone else who have done any nice conversion work on the wraithguard models?

Hmm, I was turned-off by the collar/neck piece myself.  I don't notice it any more, though, and I haven't converted any of my Wraithguard models.

I like the idea you have, and it's very pheasible to perform.  It will be easy enough to cut and position the parts, but I imagine that the model will then look like it has a pencil neck.  The collar masks the substantial length of the head with respect to the shoulders, hiding the overhang of the head over the shoulders.

I like that, but i saw many people cutting that part away... In some time you'll get used to it, maybe just turn the heads for a more realistic pose... then you won't even notice.

Well, to late to go back now. Just gonna get some more glue and a camera and ill show you hove theyll look :)

Well, here are the finished results

The hole at the torso was filled with green stuff, and i used one of the wents from the shoulder for the went at the back. Two antennas was added, one at each shoulder, and a neck guard of green stuff was made to disguice the hack marks at the topp and hide the neck. I pinned the head at an angle to get the same inpression as the original got from the "neck thingy" and used green stuff to give it a better neck.

I must say that im pleased with the results, and i think that the model feals better on the bigger base than it did before.

Not bad at all!
I love it, but maybe you should re-position the head... Try bending it to the left and it's perfect.

Ive done two out of my five wraithguards, the second one have the head twisted for a more dynamic aproach.
it also has its chin raised a bit more than the first model... well perhaps ill make the last one perfect :P

heres a picture on the whole squad as they are now. Notice the guy on the right with the raised foot. Ive got big expectations on how hell look when he is ready :)

One thing that I an trying is adding Tyranid warrior head as masks.
I drill/carve out the backs of the Tyranid heads and glue them over the wraithguards head.
After a bright paint job they look pretty good.
