Title: To all those who take this place seriously
Post by: Inquisitor Yoda on November 9, 2005, 05:28:11 PM
Hi there. I'm your local nutcase and general annoying person and today I will be instructing you on how to use this fine *cough* board.

Ok, so maybe not quite, but I all honesty some people round here should learn how to relax and enjoy themelves.

I am more specifically referring to the Black Dragon, BBQ Pit and Swiper's Shack. To me they're all pretty stupid and aren't to be taken particularly seriously. However rather a lot of people seem to care so deeply about these things it astounds me.

Yeah, so maybe I went too far relieving myself in the fridge of the Black Dragon but the whole point of this exercise is to have fun and have something to do is it not?

What exactly is it you want from these places? Do you want a down to earth roll play just sitting around drinking and grumbling about the other places? Do you want pathetic arguments with the odd person and maybe an ill planned war that will wither and die like the last one? If so then just carry on the way you are going. That or take yourself over to The RP Board. (http://www.40konline.com/index.php?board=84.0) There you will find many violent wars and no little wretches trying to have fun and a few laughs.

Alternatively we can actually be friends (though not necessarily in-game), have a fun time and actually do more than grumble and plot. How about some interaction? How about some real character building? How about some games? How about less god-modding? How about some real RPing and less of the boring limited actions? The suggestions could go on and on...

So basically I don't want this place being filled with spam (hypocritical I know). I don't want it filled with flame (not quite so hypocritical). I want it filled with people having a good time and getting along. Even if that involves making fun out of eachother ;) Just stop acting so violently to anything that is in the least bit provoking. please?

I gotta agree with you there, i do have a life involving studies etc. why else would people join the taverns etc. with no intention of having fun?

I was a bit serious back then as it was like my first ever attempt at RPing, but now I'm much preferring relaxing etc. The reason i RPed some cannons and defense systems into the BD Tavern was simply because I'm getting tired of random tanks that god-mod its way to firing into the Tavern and deliberately ruining the moment where people are actually having fun. so some RP defenses are there just because of that...i don't really want any more wars hence i think I'll just be reading with the odd posts aswell ... BTW this War of the Red Dragon sounds interesting... I'm sure it'll be fun to 'watch' :)

You have just stated the reason that once the only Tavern War I was involved in collapsed I didn't start again. I was trying to lighten the tone, everyone else just wanted to go nuts with the hating, and was getting way too serious. Lighten up people.

And Mak, mod or not that was officially the spammiest post I have ever seen  :). Ah well, what are you gonna do?

Err, you DO remember I transformed myself into Pacman as I attacked the Tavern, and then sent my heart emblazoned boxer shorts after them to choke them to death don't you?

Otherwise, I agree with all the above statements. Except Makenshi's.

No, cause that Tavern War was cancelled by Makenshi on the grounds that everyone was just going mental with flaming and god-modding.
Title: Re: To all those who take this place seriously

Incorrect, it was cancelled because of all the spamming, not flaming. And let's just not go into the 'we praise Makenshi' thread. Bascally it got too silly. Which they didn't like... so we need to find a point where the mods won't kill us for it but isn't really boring and too down to earth like the last failure. Or something like that.

My bad.

No one likes a suck-up, and I doubt the mods want a huge amount of bowing and deference just because they have powers undreamed of by mortal poster... ahem. I could, of course, be wrong.

It wasn't sucking up though. It was a total piss take.

If it really was sucking up and trying to get into his good books it might not have been so bad but...

Can't we say it was a 50/50 spread?

It did have a very nice song in it...

I have to agree. The Song was original and slightly catchy. Then again I forget it now since its been awhile.

And neither of you bothered to answer Kitten. Bouh!
To my knowledge, god-modding could be translated by ''Very/Overly Active Moderator Presence'' or ''Rightfull/Overuse Of Modly Powers'' or simply ''Pissed off Moderator stomping on spam/spammer/flame/flamer/etc/ ad nauseam''.
   Take your pick.

Off course, I may be wrong and deserve to be modded, splattered, burned and/or staked.  :P

You are. And you do.

God-modding is when a player takes it upon himself to decide the fates of others, or the outcome of his own actions.

Case in point, if someone wanted to run through a firefight to reach the other side and thus wrote 'he ran through the firefight and reached the other side', this could be considered god-modding, as it is the GM's job to decide if he makes it through unscathed or not.

And now you know.

Because you're stepping all over the grand tradition of the Taverns, which is Seer Fox's baby. People get tetchy when you step on their babies. I know this from experience.

Well technically, I inherited it. The Red Dragon was originally made by Bladesinger, now long, LONG banned from the forum, for reasons I forget. Still, because of that I managed to make it into a staple thing on the boards...so thank yee much, Bladey.

Hi all, fellow Taverners and pals, and yes this a 'serious' post, although not targeting anyone in particular, just something that I witnessed recently and that I thought to comment on.

I've been here a while as some can attest, and no, I do not take this place seriously (seriously) and I both have and have been bullied (in a friendlay way I believe - most of the time) and got my feathers ruffled a bit from time to time, and as well may have offended some posters in there with irony and sarcasm and with sometimes my outright exagerated 'competitive' attitude in the Taverns, but never in the intent of wounding someone. If that have been the case and that you happen to read this, then pray forgive as it has never been done with malicious intent.

Now this place is a 'fun' place, where we can go around with insane rambling and outright write ridiculous and blasphemous things we wouldn't (usually) do elsewhere, else we get thrown into the Hellpit of Bandom where spammers, trolls and flamers burn and suffers unspeakable torments for their terrible and unforgivable misdemeanour. Right.
Ironically, the Taverns, and especially the Tavern Games get to live with all of that: People who outright become petty spammers, trollish bastards and hypocritical flamers and some more - meaning no offense, that's the place for it all, heck, even I sometimes fall on the bad side of things and all those who know Me can attest that I am the Epitome of Correctness and the Humblest of All... Ahem. Well, I was all that. Before. Which tells much what the Taverns can do to the unwary.

Now, from time to time I read Taverners that get their posts answered like this - and it happened to me as well as some others: "... I won't bother to read your post..." and then go on answering something out of synch, out of subject and/or outright ignoring the precedent post and write some random rambling.
That is, I believe, one of the most rude and insulting thing that I ever read (besides attacking a person directly) on a forum, where everything is actually about to read the precedent post(s) before adding something or then there is no point to even have a forum at all.

Make no mistake, these kind of posts can and will happens on any forums, but would usually be deleted as spam, or the oblivious poster put back in his place and quite rightly most of the time.
In the Tavern Games however it is more likely to be ignored and viewed as game spam, which happens all the time and that's no sweat, we are all there to have fun and I find that some OOC banter and rivalry is an okay thing, particularly when it involve posters that have a long and common posting history, I do it myself from time to time (okay, often) but ignoring another's post isn't, in my IMHO, a correct thing to do, even in the Taverns.
Bypassing a post, okay - given there is a comment on said post meaning it has been read, which is an answer in itself and that I find acceptable - if not done all the time as then it becomes rude.
Outright ignoring a post as if it wasn't even there, especially where the games here involve taking said post into account for the sake of game continuity is completely rude.
Actually taking the time to write to someone that you won't even bother to read their post and then go on to effectively ignore said post as if it wasn't there is gross and quite insulting.

Yes I got hit by this a couple of time, no I won't get scarred for life by this, neither will bear a grudge, or have in the past. But there it is, although this place musn't be taken seriously and that is is basically the jungle and anarchy out there, basic forum behavior should be observed here as well, least fun disappears in a burst of Hellish Flames.

Lastly, I would like to say that I apreciates everyone (well, most) that come in there and try to have some light hearted fun. I enjoyed the place for years and I have no doubts that I will for the years to come (yes Jimmy, too bad isn't?), so cheers all and lets get some fun. ;)

Blah.

I'm sorry, I didn't bother reading your post.

Does anyone here want the tavern wars starting up again? I doubt I can start them up again, too much work this year, but I might to something around or about them if enough people here still know what side their bread is buttered on.

Oh yeah, and, uh, respect people's opinions. That is all.

Seer Fox

What are you replying to BrotherDutch?
The last reply here was in 2008...

If anything, I win in the Tavern Games for corrupting it enough to spill out of the Tavern Games, so there, the love glove has ripped and the salty snacks have wiggled their way into the light of day.

What were we talking about again? :D
