well, after a metaphorical b**** slap from a friend who has played tau at an RTT before, he told me that i almost HAD to take a hammerhead or else i would really be the stupidest person in the world.  keeping that in mind, i have come up with this new list:

Good List,

No improvement needed , I don't know what you could do with 4 pts though  . But Very good indeed , you should do very well !  ;)

well, the RTT isnt until november 22, but since i am on a slight budget, i am spacing out my buying over this month (this months round already bought), october, and november.  if i get my ass in gear, i should have no problems panting my army.

Yeah, that is a pretty good list.

Just watch out for your battle suits though.  They cant soak up a whole lot of enemy fire, and if they get destroyed, you will not have a very fun time dealing with armour.

id say take anouther hammer head instead of broadsides in a tourney they'll serve you better with mobility, imo better lastabiliy and submunitions for horde armys

Am a fan of the rail gun, so I just gotta know why you wouldn't take it on your hammer head. But a horde army will be a problem with your list. Orks will simple over run you slowly since you will mainly be hitting with about half your shots in the first place. But its a good list... Not how I like to play... But its good.

+'s for the ion cannon are its cheaper
       its averages two dead smurfs a turn (combined with a rail rifle pathfinder squad your looking at about 6 dead smurfs a turn)

really, as was mentioned, the ioncannon is for SM and necron killing.  at the last RTT, there were 3 necron players (granted one of them was me) but one of them even took a NB... and it was only a 1250 point game!  basically, if my tau were to go up against that army, rest assured that  this list could probably down the NB in 2 turns.

as for dropping 2 broadsides in favor of a 2nd hammerhead, in the end, i would prefer to have more railguns than a submunition shot.  think of it this way, an ordnance shot will usually hit about 4-5 spaced out models.  for -1 Str/AP over the submunition shot, i got 8 shots from the broadsides.  if i focus the other broadside on it, then thats 12 shots, and since 2 of them have multi trackers, i can add 2 railgun shots.  on average, this will kill more than the submunition.

ok... the prodding of said b**** slapping friend has made me make some changes.
1) consolidating the crisis suit units of 2 into a unit of 3.
2) taking the leftover suit and making it a bodyguard for shas'o
3) dropped a kroot.

Drop the Body Guard, Attach your HQ to the other suits.

Take a Sqaud of Path Finders with the new RailRifle.

Drop a  FireWarrior Squad and Drone Squads.

Give your other FireWarrior Squads the Gun Drones.

Keep the Kroot just using them for screening and tangling up other Hand to Hand squad's. They will get ate alive by them. But it gives you some time to move your FireWarriors squads.

im probably not gonna do that just for the sole fact that i want all 5 crisis suits in there...  if not, i just dont have the 2+ save/high T killing power that i need.

way too expensive... pt wise and $ wise.  182 points for 6 models and a transport is too wasteful IMHO, and the fact that anybody who sees a tau thing bigger than a FW knows it needs to bge killed.  with rail rifles being so new, everybody knows about them and wouldnt let them last a turn.  Also highly clashes with the fluff/background for my army.

thats more expensive than just using straight gun drones.  i have no team leaders as of yet, so it would cost 27 for 2 on FW's, but only 12 each when used alone.

i have this feeling that me and wiggus are the only ones who ever actually took the time to read the kroot's rules.  otherwise everybody would be taking them, since they are a steal.  i mean hell, the fieldcraft and infiltrators rule alone are worth 10 points easily.  they might not be the best fighters but using them as a meatshield is a complete waste of points.

I have also read the rules  on the kroot they are underpiced orks that can shoot. If anyone in the right mind will shoot at them or drop a pie plate on them. Killing them out right. Waste of points.

Big whoopie do they get thoses abilities. Charge them hand along into a squad of anything like the fluff and background say's. They will get their birdie ass handed to them. Or just hide in them woods so they can eat nuts and worms for the rest of the game. Other great way to spend your points huh?

Everthought of High risk targets for your oppent to think about? If not let me break it down for you.

1 HammerHead with RailGun
2 Criss suits all
3 Firewarrior's/PathFinder RailRifles.
4 Kroot.

That is what most oppents will look for and try to take out frist.  That's how  I would fight your army with my Space Wolves.

Giving your Firewarriors a team leader and drones increaes their LD and also giving you 2 free wounds that can be taken frist before your warriors stop dying.

But Yeah what do I know Wiggus knows everthing.

Lokks like someone wants to make aquiantance with the mod stick hey praetor?  ;) Frankly the way you use kroot shows that your unimmaginative in your battle plan, often it is the overlooked things that cause mayhem. A full squad of kroot runs at about 140 points and if used correctly can wipe a smurf squad off the board with ease. i wonder at what fluff you read that makes you think they can go toe to toe with banshees (highly armed and armoured troops i might add) they are HtH specialists for the Tau but that doesnt mean you charge them into your opponants HtH specialist does it  ??? You use them to take out devastator squads and the like. For someone that has a problem with me views i noticed you've never bothered to comment on the article itself. I have a little saying 'Dont criticise if your arent prepared to try' Plus its not smart to involve/slander a mod and even worse when that mod is me. I dont want to ahev to get the mod stick out again.

Lets' see here I use my Kroot in a defense role when I pull out of the box at all.

1. They Beef up my Flanks or the middle of the broad.
2. They play counter-attack role or attack a unit that is getting to close to a squad of FireWarriors.
3. They take objectives for me.

Most oppents I face are Eldar Necorns, Spacmarines. I ethier have to shoot the doll rags out of their hand to hand troops or tie them up with my kroot. So i can move my firewarriors out of harms way.

He asked about opions about his army I gave one one. He gave me his opion and gave mine back.  Why should I try to criticise it is only a game not going to work myself into a frezy over it.

Why should I be worried about it is my opion and I can express it. If you can not take alittle verbal jab now and then. I'm sorry get thicker skin.

See i wouldnt need thicker skin if slanderous comments werent made about me when im not even envolved in the coversation. You contradict yourself by telling him about using them as meatshields and then not doing so yourself.
Remember verbal jabbing as you put it can often lead to flame wars and i dont want that in the clean forum that i moderate im not discussing it just consider it a point to consider.

but what is more valuable to your little puppies (nothing against your SW but its what i call all SW's):
3 turns of bolter fire
or
2 rounds of CC.  dunno about you, but tying you up for 2 rounds of combat in CC will cost you more than 3 rounds of 10 bolter shots.  those 10 bolter shots will do s**t to either the FW's or the crisis suits, but will tear through the kroot.  those 2 turns in CC tho, will mean that your puppies kill the kroot, then melt, as rapid fire plasma eats them.
trust me, if a kroot unit is in deep woods, they should be given more priority than FW's.
