Craftworld Fun Footdar
« on: August 12, 2017, 03:39:39 PM »
I want to try a fun list as my serpent/d-scythe ynnari list is too strong to be fun.

This list is about using a strong "core" made by a blob of guardians buffed by farseer, conceal warlock and avatar.
To let these guys get to their destination they will be screened by three wraithlords and three war walkers, to give my opponent other targets and to unleash a tsunami of shuriken.

While hopefully my opponent is distracted by the core, the real hammer will run the flanks: the shining spears buffed by the autarch will hunt the strongest units.
Swooping hawks and warp spiders help the spears harassing the enemy flanks while the rest of the army advance.

Any suggestion? Keep in mind that I would like to keep it fun.
Is there any way I can add harlequins (i only own a troupe, troupe master and a starweaver) without going Ynnari? And if I had to go Ynnari to use them I would have to give up the Avatar. Would then be viable to use the guardians? How would you replace the avatar?
Thanks!

Currently it looks like you're running two detachments, 1 spearhead and one outrider. you could split one of the Guardians squads into two and run one spearhead one outrider and one battalion with no changes to your models on the board. This would give you an additional 3 command points.

Mmmmm i love me some footdar. I, personally, would say don't go Ynnari and keep the Avatar. He is a beast.

I do think you need a little more ranged AT. The war walkers would be the ideal candidates imo, if you could manage the points to upgrade them all to dual BLs. Once the Avatar reaches the enemy tanks, he will kill whatever the walkers didn't.

Also, I like Blazinghand's suggestion to make this 1 battalion, outrider, and vanguard detachment.

I made a few tweaks, I received your suggestions about the troops and the long range anti tank. I removed two wraithlords and the autarch, swapped the farseer for a jetseer and added 9 scorpions, increased the fast attack squads sizes, and changed the shuricannons on WL and WW to AML.
I like AML more than the brightlance due to its versatility, do you think I should consider brightlances?

I want to try a fun list as my serpent/d-scythe ynnari list is too strong to be fun.
Well, both lists are definitely weak enough to not feel OP vs any opposition :)
I like the second one more, because it looks much more like a "proper army" to me, whereas the first one is way too heavy on HQ choices.

IMO Lances are hands down better than AMLs, especially since you don't have any other proper AT units like Reapers or Dragons. Putting a Farseer on a jetbike is pointless, especially in an all-foot list like this.
I fight against Chaos and for Order, because it means fighting for Life against Death. There is no other battle truly worth fighting.

Why is that? The jetseer will run with the spears.

Anyway I made another change and now I swapped warp spiders with harlequins on starweaver, and swapped AML with BL.

Of course this list won't have a chance in a tournament, but I played with my Ynnari list, all reapers, serpents and d-scythes wgs, and I always tabled my opponent. It's fun do it a few times, we all love to win. But it gets boring.

This sounds like a previous edition(s) mentality to me. I'm saying this because I had to apply some conscious mental effort to overcome this sort of thinking myself. Thing is that now, unlike it was in older editions, a character doesn't need to be with a unit to be protected. In fact, in most situations it proves more efficient to keep a character further away from main combat, because this way the number of friendly units that would qualify as "closer targets" will be greater. In other words, it often happens so that a character is safer being further away from frontline friendly units than being close to them. Also, the range of Farseer's powers is good enough to reach anything even on foot, and you definitely do not want to have him anywhere near close combat anyway.

What else did you drop? 1 unit of Spiders is not enough to buy a Troupe and a Starweaver. Anyway, Harlequins are great, and will likely be much more efficient than Spiders.

I know, I did take part in discussing your previous list. BTW, did you try fielding your previous list as plain CWE rather than Ynnari, as it was suggested?

I didn't, the list was made for Ynnari, I preferred to make another one altogether.
You have a point in what you say about the seer, anyway.
Meanwhile though, I made other changes and I might try to go Ynnari again :P still on foot, still fun, but a little more survivable.

The "core" is made by wraithlords and walkers, backed by eight wguards with cannons, a farseer and yvraine. This should pose a real threat.

The eight spears and the harlequins will then hopefully be more free to hunt the flanks while the hawks will jump around with a ton of shots (doom should help).
