The end of a project
« on: February 7, 2009, 08:20:02 AM »
So I am about to embark on one project, but first I had to wrap up the previous one. As this was part painting and part converting, I felt neither board was right, so I will psot it here instead.

I started my last project almost five years ago by collecting models, which was a daunting task. Two years were spent doing this, until I felt I had enough to actually start painiting.
As a lot of my time has been eaten up by other things, this has been slow going, but as rules progressed for this army, painting moved along. Last fall I picked up the brush for the last leg, and last night I finished the last mini for this army. It is now officially done.

What is it?
Well, it's short, it has beards, and it was not eaten by the tyranids.  :o

Rasmus' Squats

Total: 4183 points

I have also housed them in this metal toolbox. The reasons for this is that it is metal, ans since all the models have magnets under their feet, they stay still when I move it. Everything, well almost everything fits in there.

Finally I constructed some objective markers to use in play.

Well, it's short, it has bears, and it was not eaten by the tyranids.  :o
Lol!

First of I'd like to say that just collecting all those squat figures is an impressive feet. But you also wrote you're own codex. This is the biggest collection of squats I've ever seen. Must be nice to have a living, breathing part of "40k history".

It would seem like the links for the two assault squads, and the "almost everyting" link don't work.

Still, thanks for charing!

I survived the "CoC Crackdown".

Interesting. The links turned out to be a lot more sensitive than I had thought. Fixed it now though. Thanks for spotting it.

A lot of work there Ramsus, but well worth it. The squats look great and the Metal toolbox is an inspired idea, you'll just need to where a red cap when you carry it around ;D

Fantastic army! Really! And very large!

Squats are rare. I keep an eye on them on ebay. They are offered once in a while but never in large quantities. It must have cost you a fortune and quite some time to find and get all these minis.

Five years? And I always thought that I was slow with my own projects. ;D

You must be a very patient man.

Is this a gaming army? If so what rules will you use? 2nd Ed. or the fan made codex that could be found on the internet?

Not compared to my 20+K of Eldar. :)

It is not me being slow actually, but that they are so rare. It took me a few years just to gather enough models to actually get started on this, and while I was beginning to model/paint these guys I was on the lookout for the final pieces I was missing. Right now I am only missing the Exo-armour Hearthguards on bikes, but they are so rare I don't want to spend a fortune getting them. My normal bikers are enough.

You have no idea.

It is indeed a gaming army. I have run it through a few tournaments as Marines actually, and using Scouts as troops I can model most of the pieces in, but it lacks a lot of flavour. No, I use these rules for them, and playtesting has been long and oftentimes very messy. That list has gone through a LOT of testing, but only two battles are up on it currently. My opponent has the stomachflu, so no game last weekend, nor this one.

The next project starts in... 25 hours. The blog will awaken...

Wow I wasn't expecting that you already had painted everything. I was hoping that you'll finally post your squat army, but I wasn't expecting to see all these awesome models.

I've been building up a harlequin army, but they're a lot cheaper and easier to find. If I could I would start a squad army, but so far I still have too many other armies to build up to start another one. Maybe I'll build my own squat army in a few years...
Then again at times I'm wondering If I don't already have enough armies.
The Dark Moon Kabal ,possibly the biggest DE army ever!

Thank you. As I had started painting this long ago the last stretch was not that big (just... 10 bikes, 2 trikes, 10 veteran advisors and a whole bunch of characters, including both Living Ancestors and all Guildmasters). It was jsut that I felt I needed to actually wrap it up, so I could dig into the next project.
Blog should be up in... 6 hours or thereabouts, with the first entry on the next project. It won't be five years long or 100 models, but I hope it will be as much fun. :)

Very impressive.

I certainly wish I had the time to give that kind of patience for a project of that caliber.

I think my first ever really big project is going to be getting an Eldar army on the go.

I started with my Eldar in 91 I think, or thereabouts, for real, and kept ni them until... 2002-2003 or something. The last titan I finished in 2006. So patience is important, especially if you are aiming for something of a decent size. This is just 4k, the Eldar are.. bigger.

Sorry, Rasmus. The link, if it should lead to your blog, actually doesn't lead me anywhere.

I don't get access to your project thread.

All the ones under the "Blogs" tab up top seem to work...
Or is there another set of Blogs that are not up (which yours are in)?

Cant find your new blog. I might be slightly loopy from glue and paint fumes though. (New nids make me happy)
Would love to read some more WIP stuff though if you get it working.

It is a bit odd. I can set permissions to allow all members to read and comment on the blog, but the moment I hit "save" the permissions clear. Will get Kindred to look into it I suppose.

The permissions screen is not saving when you add a group... So GUESTS can read your blog, but MEMBERS can not.

That's what I thought. Thanks Kindred. Please let us know when it is up so people don't have to hammer at the gates and get rejected.

Edit: Seems to be working now though. Try it, and report back, or comment in the blog. :)

I am also have a question regarding the use of this blog; What is considered an approriate pacing of articles? I mean, it is not twitter, nor should it be used like it, so does one article of the size posted currently per week suffice, or two per week, or one every three weeks? We have no frame of reference here, as so many of the blogs have sort of... stopped, and we have so few, but I thought I would ask.
Can blogs be subscribed to so that you will know if a new entry is posted, if you are interested? There are so many new things to learn about this system. :)
