at times i buy a lot of my models from ebay in bulk, and when they come in, i usally strip the paint off of them and take them apart and repaint them. saves some cash that way. i'm about 50/50 buying new, and buying ebay

When I first started collecting I bought a lot, but then I slowed down as i had lost to much money.  So as advice for anyone new to the game take your time, because then you get to paint well instead of rushing.

Daemonhunters: 2000+
I'm working on building it up to 5000 points by assembling a full stormtrooper company.

Orks: 1200
I need to build them up to around 2000+. That's a lot of badmoon orks.

Dark Eldar: 2000
My brother and I split them. I don't use them as much so they don't get new stuff really often.

Working on:
Armored Company: soon to be 3000+
A whole company of mostly leman russes with a forgeworld/ mechanicus twist to it.

Salamanders: around 1000+
For my daemonhunters. They will be my showcase army.

i have 2000 pts of Biel-Tan, consisting of around 69 models
and 2000 pts of Grey knights consisting of exactly 35 infantry models, 1 dread and 1 land raider.  but they are still growing!  so many possibilities with them and such

Well, I like smaller armies, and lots of them.
At the moment I have:
Imperial Guard 6000 pts
Imperial Fleet BFG 6000 pts
Eldar Biel Tan 2500 points
Eldar Harlequins 6000 points
Eldar BFG 6000 points
Plague Marines 4500 points
Plague fleet 3000 points
Ravenguard marines 2500 points (under construction)
Imperial Fist marines 2500 points
Tyranids 3000 points (under construction)
Hive Fleet BFG (under construction)

But I play a lot of fantasy at the moment, so the armies under construction will take a while to finish.

1950 points of Black Templar Space Marines (I'm doing bad with them so I started making a Guard army)

1800 points of Imperial Guard, possibly adding more.

And possibly starting army of Eldar or Necron.

I will restrict myself to 40k only:

6000 Eldar (incl. Revenant, Scorpion and Phoenix)
5000 Space Marines (one full company with vehicles &c)
2000 Imperial Guard (incl. Stormblade)
1200 Harlequins

I have never fielded a force over 2000 points but this collection gives me enormous versatility. Otherwise I'd be bored to play the same army over and over again.

All the Eldar are painted, all the other armies are not :)
