« on: March 17, 2003, 09:04:16 PM »
Greetings all, I'm Janyx and I'm going to be competing in the upcoming Grand Tournament in Chicago on May 10 & 11. I was hoping that I could get some input on the army list I'm planing to use, and I would really appreciate any comments that might give me an edge. Thanks in advance, and BTW I'm a loyal Dark Angel.

II.) Whirlwind Battery "Desdain" - 75pts.
[Multi-Rocket Launcher]

FORCE TOTAL: 1,850pts. / (out of) 1,850pts.

Alright, that's the list I'm currently banking on. Obviously I've opted for massed firepower as opposed to CC ability, and here's some of my reasoning, broken down unit by unit:

TROOPS:

I designed Tactical Squad Primus for the mission of seizing any important objectives or terrain strong-points and holding them against enemy action. Squad Secundus is primary backup to this mission and has a secondary role of anti-armor supression (Thus the lascannons). Squads Tertius A-C are meant as 'line' placeholders, meaning that they will primarily be holding a defensive posture to ensure that covering fire is given to any forward elements. Scout Squad Delta is meant as a flank-anchor designed to supress enemy troop concentrations and serve as a teleport origin for Terminator Squad Omega.

ELITES-

Terminator Squad Omega is designed to take advantage of any deep-strike opportunities that may arise. Primarily they will be held in reserve until a line counter-assault is necessary, or if the situation allows, a flank attack in concert with Scout Squad Delta. Dreadnought Nova is meant as fire-support to forward advancing elements given the flexibility of it's move-and-fire capabilities.

HEAVY SUPPORT-

Predator 'Annhilator' Litheus is meant to bolster anti-armor supression as well as provide covering fire for forward positions. Whirlwind Battery Desdain is to hold a support posture while harassing enemy troop and light vehicle positions.

HQ-

Grand Master Kel'dryan Scythius will personally command Terminator Squad Omega. His Lion Helm is a great asset to the already resilient Terminators and Scythius's support gives an edge in close combat.

That's it! (Whew...) Please feel free to give me suggestions and helpful hints. This will be my first time playing in a GT and I would like to make a good impression on my opponents.

That looks like a very well-rounded list IMHO,  not a lot I can say about it.  The only thing I'd consider doing is taking a Predator Destructor with Las sponsons rather than an Annihilator.  I've found the Autocannon to be more effective and versatile with its extra shot (two chances to hit is better than a single re-roll).  Okay, it might be a weaker weapon, but you've still got a pair of Lascannons on it too.

Just an option to consider.

That's true Dangonblane, with the extra shot at strength 7 I might be ablt to do more damage. Besides that strength 7 can still glance armor 13. Good Point.

Would personally use 2 Pred Destructors and take out the Dread. I think you always have to standardise a bit in tournies to do well imo.

Prefer Land Speeders to Termies. Termies never seem to do too well in GT imo.

Overall a nice list tho.

I would usually agree with you about the terminators ZAQ, but recently I've found that if you couple them with then Lion Helm on the Grand Master you have a squad that can absorb an insane amount of firepower. I recently played a game vs. tau where my terminators missed their deep strike point and teleported right in front of the tau firing line. The next turn the entire tau army opened up on them - and all survived. I guess thats what endeared me to the Deathwing. I'm still debating about the predators, but I definitely think the Missle/PC Dreadnought is a better use of points.
