Hello there everyone,

As you all know – my personal blog is called the Time of Ending and most of you who know me are aware of the fact that all my miniatures are tied into one single story. Some of you have read my “March of Iron” fluff and some of you have seen my little fan fiction about stranded Alaitoc Rangers or Raptors 4th Company adventures. All of those pieces are tied into one big scenario – the War for the Gloria Flax System, also known as the Gloria Flax Campaign to some.

Here, I would like to present the whole Campaign as one big project. I think that it might be of a lot of interest to some of you who know me. I keep a lot of details and information on my personal blog, but I would also like to document everything here for the community to see what I am up to right now.

This campaign involves a great amount of forces of all races – it’s a total war, with no mercy and no quarter, it’s bloody and it’s spiteful, full of horrors and atrocities. I wanted to depict urban combat at its bloodiest and siege combat (that is why my story involves Legio Mortis, the Iron Warriors, Imperial Fists, Death Korps of Krieg and the Steel Legion, all being the best siege, trench warfare and urban combat specialists). I have also decided to depict some arctic and jungle fighting, hence the Raptors Legion who have always excelled at camouflage and stealth. Alaitoc represent all that from an Eldar perspective. This project is not only about painting, it also involves writing fluff, modeling terrain and gaming.

Just to inform everyone on the materials that I use:
- Paints: Vallejo Model Color, Vallejo Game Color, GW Foundation, GW Citadel.
- Washes / Mixtures: SIN Industries Filters, MIG Washes, MIG Oil and Wet Effects Mixture, homemade washes with Abteilung Oil paints, GW Washes.
- Weathering: MIG Pigments
- Brushes: Airbrushes (BD128 and BD132) and Abteilung / Tamyia Synthetic Brushes. For detail work - Kolinsky Sable Brushes by Martre (French brushes).

Cypra Mundi – Gloria Flax System

Calvinus Prime was the first planet to be attacked. It was home to a top secret Inquisition base, Ordo Malleus to be exact. It is the furthest planet from the star that serves as the Sun for the system. The following planets are all in order, the first one being the furthest from the sun, while the last one on the list being the closest. Keep in mind how this affects the climate on each planet.

[1] Calvinus Prime (Closed World – Access Restricted – Inquisition File IN678943DR)
[2] Dementia (Regular World)
[3] Optimum 4 (Regular World)
[4] Optimum 3 (Forgeworld)
[5] Optimum 2 (Mining World)
[6] Optimum 1 (Forgeworld)
[7] Ares (Mining World)
[8] Flax 2 (Agriworld)
[9] Flax 1 (Agriworld)
[10] Gloria Principalis (Principal Planet)
[11] Hellius    (Forgeworld)
[12] Harodius (Mining World)
[13] Damnitis (Death World)

I want to note that I am currently editing the storyline, so please, do not be surprised if you see some elements change – that is natural. I will be making the corrections as I go – the first two posts in this thread will serve as my hub for all the other posts and additions that I make. Since our challenge of 10 gamers did not finish 100 percent successfully, there is not much point in continuing it.

Act I: Invasion of Calvinus Prime

Planet of Calvinus Prime invaded by the 5th Grand Company of the Iron Warriors and the Legio Mortis Traitor Titan Legion.

-  At the helm of the invasion are Warsmith Kolliostro of the Iron Warrios and Commander Fabricator Heller of the Legio Mortis.
-   An Ordo Malleus secret base is destroyed in the process. The “Arcane Terminal” is stolen with a massive amount of secret data – including vital information on the Optimum 3 and Optimum 1 Forge Worlds.
-   Most of the local Population is enslaved or massacred. Atrocious experiments are conducted by Dark Apothecaries, Dark Mechanicum and Savage Morticians of the Iron Warriors and Legio Mortis.
- An Alaitoc (Eldar) fleet is dispatched to the star cluster to keep an eye on the developments.
- Ranger Captain Kailen is sent with his reconnaissance unit “Night Falcons” to investigate the occupied planet. Most of his team is killed off in the process. Five Rangers survive the massacre and continue transmitting valuable data.

The Imperium learns about the invasion and to reclaim Calvinus Prime, it sends two companies of Space Marines (4th Company of the Exorcists and 4th Company of the Raptors) and four Imperial Guard Regiments. The Inquisition sends Inquisitor Helenhauer and two squads of Grey Knights.
-   It takes 4 months to organize the Loyalist Forces, and 3 more months to enter the position for attack.

The battle of Calvinus Prime begins.
-   The Imperial Forces find themselves facing thousands of traitors.
-   The horribly mutated population attacks all loyal soldiers on sight. It seems like the Obliterator virus has affected the local population.
-   The battle for Calvinus Prime rages on for 5 months, with no satisfactory results.
-   The Inquisition calls for an investigation before Exterminatus would even be considered. It asks for a surgical strike mission to clear the destroyed Inquisition base and salvage the documents there. The mission fails.
- Meanwhile, the Alaitoc Rangers receive orders to assassinate the Planetary Governor who has become a Host to Chaos. The Rangers succeed, and escape from the planet.
- Exterminatus of Calvinus Prime follows these events.

Act II: Total War

Full Scale Invasion of the Cypra Mundi Sector begins by the infuriated forces of Chaos.
-   After the Exterminatus, loyal forces at the orbit find themselves besieged by a Chaos Fleet, 6 times bigger than their own. This Chaos fleet is comprised of more Traitor Legions and Warbands than just Legio Mortis and Iron Warriors.
-   Loyalists are forced to retreat to the Optimum 2 planet, where a local Imperial Fleet port becomes a temporary base of operations.

Planets of Dementia and Optimum 4 fall and are occupied by the Traitor Forces.

Lord Commander Krueger sends a request for aid to the High Council of Terra.
-   A decision is taken to hold the line at Optimum 3, a large Forgeworld with an exceptionally cold climate.

The Loyalist Forces call for help - Administratum responds by sending in countless Imperial Guard regiments and more Space Marine companies. Titan Legions, Sisters of Battle, and all other special units are called in as well. This united force is given the title of the “166th Imperial Army.”

The united Forces of Chaos invade Optimum 3.
-   The Siege lasts 27 weeks.

The Fall of Optimum 3.

Act III: An Enemy Within

Rebellion breaks out on Optimum 1.
-   It is violently quelled by the 6th Company of the Angels of Absolution.
The temporary base of operations on Optimum 2 comes under attack from a daemonic invasion.
-   The Inquistion calls for the cleansing of Optimum 1 and Optimum 2 due to a high level of “Chaos Taint.” Rebellions ensue and a bloody civil war breaks out on both planets.
-   Angels of Absolution, Exorcists and Raptors engage the local population. Optimum 2 is lost in the process, but the Imperial forces succeed in holding Optimum 1 – all who are deemed tainted are executed without investigation or trial. Whole cities are burnt down to the ground, and thousands are purged in the name of the Emperor.
- Meanwhile, massive battles take place in space. The Imperial Fleet doesn’t have the time to carry out an exterminatus of Optimum 2 – the planet is occupied by Kolliostro’s forces and its forges are now successfully used by the Traitors.

This is where all the action picks up from – it’s an all out war. All new stories and events are set after the fall of Optimum 2 and the Civil War of Optimum 1. I have to note though that I will occasionally go back in time to tell the tales of the first four Acts. As I progress, I will adding new Acts to the whole campaign.

More updates, additions and edits to come very soon. For the organization of all Loyalist and Enemy Forces, see the next post (it doesn't fit here, it's very large). Each character, legion, chapter, warband, regiment will get a description (like a little profile) and a little mention in one of my stories.

Fleet
4 Large warp-capable space vessels. While on the ground there are 3 Falcons, 3 Fire Prisms and 9 Waveserpents that have been confirmed in smaller skirmishes nearby the Gloria Flax cluster.

Regular Army
Unknown at this time

Invaders: Forces of Chaos

Iron Warriors ex-5th Grand Company led by Warsmith Kolliostro
Roughly 1000 IWs Chaos Space Marines, about 6000 Renegade Imperial Guard Traitors, about 300 Savage Morticians and Dark Mechanicum, about 200 Khornate Space Marines under Lord Azgoth, plus thousands of daemonic servitors and slaves. (Also, 4 Baneblades, 3 Shadowswords and 1 Stormlord are in the armoury) Currently, unkown amount of battle barges or other space ships capable of warp travel.

Legio Mortis
1 Reaver Titan, 4 Warhound Titans, 3 Shadowswords, 3 Baneblades, about 1,200 Dark Mechanicum, about 800 Renegade Imperial Guardsmen and Navy officers, and thousands of slaves and daemonic servitors. Currently, unkown amount of battle barges or other space ships capable of warp travel.

Unknown Chaos Warbands
Kolliostro made a number of pacts with some smaller warbands who fight as mercenaries in this campaign - they include roughly 450 marines, almost 2000 Blood Pact soldiers, and about 3000 other Imperial Traitors. Their leaders are still unknown - but insignias of the Death Guard and Emperor's Children legions had been seen by a small number of survivors who were able to draw their symbols from their now twisted in horror memories.

Daemonic Entities
Survivors of the first battles have mentioned horrid creatures beyond any twisted imagination. Nobody knows who or what they are or where they come from - but their numbers have been reported in thousands.

Together with all the freshly corrupted soldiers and civilians, this Chaos army can number anywhere between 50,000 to 500, 000 strong (nobody truly knows).

Soon, I will be giving the names of the Heroes and main characters. Please, keep in mind that this is a neverending project and it will go on for as long as I am in the hobby, unless I decide to start an army that is not involved in the conflict, which is pretty much impossible. I have been at it for almost two years now, and always tied everything into this one big plot, so I do not see why I would ever stop doing it, since it only spices up everythign and makes it more exciting :)

Also, please keep in mind that I will not be recreating each Chapter / Regiment at 100 percent strength, that would be physically impossible. But, I will be making a representative or a group of reps of each force, that's for sure.

Alaitoc Rangers - Night Falcons Reconaissance Unit
under the command of Captain Kailen

"Amraith Thal'ren is a member of Kailen's reconaissance unit. Together with Kailen and Jern, they are the only three Alaitoc survivors in the danger zone. Two more survivors have been located in other parts of the death world that now is Calvinus Prime (that is before the exterminatus, and the changes in the atmosphere / environment are caused by Daemonic infestation and corruption). About the two other survivors and the third member of Kailen's last stand you will hear soon.

Amraith is a true marksman - his aim with his rifle is legendary. His patience is strong and his nerves are made of steel. As you can see, Amraith is all covered in mud and dust, as he usually provides cover fire for the team from hidden dirty / muddy positions.

As things stand right now, the Rangers have heard the rumours of an incoming exterminatus of the planet as the Imperial forces cannot oppose the Chaotic invaders anymore (they have grown far too strong and the local population has been corrupted to the point of total madness). Kailen has received new orders from the Alaitoc fleet - kill the local governor (who is a host to chaos now) and escape while the planet hasn't been bombed yet."

Thanks Raktra! I am actually stripping my IWs off their paint right now and will be redoing them after I finish my Imperial Fists and Raptors. You have to keep in mind that a lot of my Iron Warriors were done when I was just 8/9 months into the hobby and they still were not up to the level (painting wise). I believe, I posted a bunch of pictures of a decently painted group and a land raider about 3/4 months before.

Anyways, I promise that once I start repainting my IWs army, I will post everything here. Right now - the plan is the following: Alaitoc Rangers, Imperial Fists 3rd Company, Raptors 4th Company, some Death Korps of Krieg, and then go back and do Iron Warriors, then Death Guard / Emperor's Children, then Legio Mortis and then Legio Destructor / Ignatum, and eventually maybe Steel Legion one day. That's the long term plan pretty much. Though, subject to change of course.

I want to have a complete 3rd Company of Imperial Fists done by the end of the year (plus hopefully, do half or more of the 4th Company of Raptors). Alongside that, I will be working on some Death Koprs. And who knows, if a new Skaven army is released, maybe I will even dive into fantasy. The most important thing is that I am not planning to do Titans for about a year at least. I want to have the armies first, then buy a few Titans in one go (will be towards the end of my MBA so I will be kind of getting ready to take on a full time job, hopefully in investment banking).

But yeah, my wallet is crying.

Edit: Update - New Stuff Arrived

Today my new order of Forge World and GW stuff came in. I got a new Land Raider Crusader / Redeemer, 10 Sternguard Veterans, Pedro Kantor (who is not in the picture), a squad of Assault Terminators, a lascannon Death Korps of Krieg Team, a DKOK Death Rider, the DKOK HQ Command Squad, and a bunch of upgrades like Rhino / LR doors and some shoulders.

Together with my previous order (which hasn't been really tackled yet painting / modelling wise), it makes up my Loaylist Army thus far (that's not mentioning my Shadosword and my AOBR set).

So without any further chit-chat, I am presenting to you the future Loyalist Army for the Time of Ending: War for Gloria Flax Campaign. Enjoy it.

Most Recent Order:

Last Order (part of the Loyalist forces, haven't began assembly yet):

Shadowsword:
got this baby quite some time ago (oh and Bloomberg TV in the background, oh well, hehe, guess that's the symbolic TV station of my profession.)

Still awaiting some Forge World stuff to come in though (will update you when it comes in).

Alaitoc Ranger Faerin (Upd. 19th June)
« Reply #5 on: June 19, 2009, 01:03:00 PM »
I have been away for a week (on an important business trip that took me around Koln, Saverne, Strasbourg and Paris). I got back home a few days ago, and fortunately had a few hours to paint - so I finally finished my 3rd Alaitoc Ranger.

His name is Faerin, and he is one of the two Rangers that was located outside of the danger zone (by danger zone I mean the capital city where the most intense urban combat imaginable was taking place). Faerin's three men squad was supposed to watch the main highway into the Southern City (the outskirts of Terminus Hal, the capital of the planet). The squad deployed in a forest and set up camp there. Unfortunately a Chaos patrol hit them at the most unexpected moment and Faerin is the only survivor.

Front:

Close up Front:

Back:

I have used German Fieldgrey from my VMC range as the base color for the cloak. I have also used German Dark Green, Cam Bright Green for the shadow / highlight and Luftwaffe Uniform for gloves. For the armour I used Mordian Blue, Enchanted Blue, and Ice Blue (the GW Citadel blues) in about 6 layers.

For the rust I used both Light Rust and Standard Rust from MIG Pigments (I used SR in areas that have had more contact with oxygen and water). Next time, I am thinking of trying out the Oil and Wet Effects Mixture, but I really need to construct an appropriate base to display those effects (so maybe I will leave it to my Death Korps of Krieg).

So two more rangers to go and Kailen's team will be completed. I am really excited about this project, since the work on these rangers took my painting to a whole new level.

EDIT:

Raktra, this is specially for you my friend :) My Iron Warriors Land Raider and eight Iron Warriors. As I said, these guys were painted quite some time ago, so please do not judge my painting skills on those. They will be integrated into the main Iron Warriors Warhost known as the IRONHOST.

Land Raider:

Chaos Marines:

Enjoy, though I did not know how to layer when I did those IWs :( And I have yet to do my Warsmith Kolliostro and his retinue. I still haven't thought about how I want my Warsmith to look like - but I am leaning towards something like a Lord with Lightning Claws, power armour, and a tendency to enjoy bloodshed a bit way too much.

Alaitoc Ranger Jern Finished and some DKOKs WIP (Upd. 21st June)
« Reply #6 on: June 21, 2009, 09:50:00 AM »
This weekend, I had some free time - and guess what, I decided to work on the 4th ranger from Kailen's "Night Falcons" squad.

This is Jern. He was born into a very noble family, but as soon as he hit the age of being capable to hold a rifle and travel from planet to planet, he pledged his life to an eternal struggle against Chaos. He became a Ranger, like many young Alaitoc warriors choose to. He swore an oath to protect the greatest secrets of the Eldar culture and to fight all the enemies both within and outside.

Jern is a great marksman, but he shines even more as a fast-paced shooter. Jern does not believe in close combat and avoids it all costs. His skill with two pistols at the same time is legendary as he believes that only the quickest reflexes and reactivity distinguish the best warrior from the worst. He is one of the three Rangers that are left operating in Terminus Hal, in the thickest of the battle.

For an Alaitoc Ranger, Jern is a talkative individual. Jern is somewhat of an official daredevil of the Night Falcons squad - he is a real risktaker, and he prides himself on that fact. The most dangerous missions that are assigned to the Night Falcons usually involve Jern, as he does not know how to say no to danger. So far, the Eldar Gods have watched over this young ranger, but for how long will chance be on his side? Nobody knows...

For Jern, I have used mostly Vallejo Model Colors - except for the blue armour. So, look at my other posts for the list of paints that I used. One thing though - on this little fellow I applied much more filters (yes, the MIG ones, SIN Industries German Set) in at least 2 layers and I used a bigger variety of MIG pigments to weather the base and show all the different stones, rubble and mud. For example, before I never used Track Brown MIG pigment for individual characters (usually reserved it for tracks on tanks), but I realized why not try it, since it seemed to go perfectly in combination with Industrial City Dirt, Dry Mud, and Light Dust.

A few people have asked me what colors do I use for my bases, well here is the exact breakdown for this base:

Stones: Industrial City Dirt, then Dry Mud, then Light Dust.

Mud and Little Pebbles: Industrial City Dirt, then Track Brown, then a Mix of Dry Mud and Vietnam Earth, then Dry Mud with some Thinner for Washes, and then a few light strokes with a brush of Light Dust.

Rust: Citadel Boltgun Metal, then Black Smoke, then Light Rust, then some Dry Mud and Black smoke in areas that haven't been seriously affected by rust, then Standard Rust in most watery places, and then Black Smoke on the edges where the material was heavily burnt.

Clothing: Be careful not to overdo it! I put a few strokes of Light Dust, and then at the bottom of the cloak where the weathering is most intense I put a bit extra Dry Mud, and sometimes Vietnam Earth, depending on the environment I want to portray. If I want to go for a pure Urban environment, then I will throw in a bit of Concrete and Industrial City Dust pigments onto the clothing.

And also, a little advanced screening for those who follow my blog. Here are just some surprise pics into what I am doing (most of my models are still to be assembled though).

Night Falcons / Death Korps of Krieg Lascannon Team (Upd. 27th June)
« Reply #7 on: June 24, 2009, 02:49:40 PM »
I have finally finished my group of Alaitoc Rangers - Night Falcons.

The last ranger is Vyrael - a classic sniper. He is a modest individual - doesn't complain much and is not very talkative. He has been a dedicated friend to Kailen since childhood and has always watched his back.

I have used all my classic choices of paints here. The cloak was painted in Luftwaffe Uniform with Field Blue for Highlights and Prussian Blue for Shadows. The gloves were painted with my massive choice of Vallejo greens (with German Fieldgrey as a basecoat). I made sure to generously cover this little guy with my Filters to guarantee a very "cool" (as in cold) tone of color. The base was completed with my MIG pigments.

And finally! The group picture - I have waited for so long to post this...

Vyrael, Jern, Kailen, Amraith and Faerin:

Death Korps of Krieg - Lascannon Team - Radoslav and Herman
Krieg 459th Artillery Regiment (part of the 24th Line Korps)

I have decided to work on my Death Korps this weekend and my target goal was to finish a lascannon team. This was not an easy ride, I have to tell you that. The weather was very hot the last three days - and I was sweating way too much when I was painting, so I was constantly distracted. Also - there were a lot of small details to paint - and with extreme care, in order to avoid making mistakes.

Anyways, I am happy that I got through with this miniature, and I am proud of the results (although I know that I could have done so much better).

These are Herman Hubert and Radoslav Freiko - old friends, for whom this is a second campaign. Both men were born on Krieg and went through the toughest challenges and tests to join the famed Death Korps. They both come from a similar background - large families, living in poverty, toiling away in the horrid working conditions of Krieg.

Herman and Radoslav are fairly talkative individuals - unlike many of their compatriots. They still believe in good and have hope for a brighter future. They are currently attached to the Krieg 24th Line Korps as part of the Krieg 459th Artillery Regiment. At the moment, both men are awaiting deployment orders for their regiment (as they have just retreated from Optimum II, which has been lost to Kolliostro's warhost).

This miniature represents Herman and Radoslav during the Battle for Optimum II - when the local population turned on the defenders and the Regiments of Krieg and the Steel Legion had to support the Angels of Absolution, the Exorcists and the Raptors Legion in engaging the enemy and cleansing the planet.

Front look:

Back:

To achieve these results I used mostly Vallejo Model Color paints (as usual at about 75%), MIG Pigments, MIG SIN Industries Filters and Abteilung Oils. I also used a few GW Citadel and Foundation paints.

The cloaks / vests were painted in German Fieldrey, with shadows done in German Dark Green and highlights done in German Cam. Bright Green. Everything was filtered with the Sin Industries German Filter "Blue for Panzer Grey."

The gloves and the pants were painted in German Cam. Black Brown and then twice highlighted with Leather Brown and German Cam. Pale Brown. Instead of using MIG filters here, I used GW's Devlan Mud wash on the pants and the gloves. All leather was done with Ochre colors from the VMC range, then highlight by GW's Bubonic Brown one last time and all heavily filtered by SIN Industries "Tan for Tritonal Camo."

The helmets and the shoulderpads were done in regular black and highlighted by grey, and then washed by GW's Badab Black. The gas masks were painted with Cam. Orange Ochre, washed by Devlan Mud, and then highlighted by Bubonic Brown. Everything was then filtered by "Brown for Yellow" Filter.

Now to the base and the lascannon emplacement...

I used all the GW metal and tin/gold colors to get the metallics done. Everything was washed then by Badab Black (for metallics) or by Devlan Mud (tin / gold).

The mud was created by mixing 65% Abteilung Oil Paint "Wash Brown," at 30% Dry Mud MIG Pigment, and at 5% Vallejo Gloss Varnish. This gave me the needed substance to apply to the stones, crevices, openings and muddy areas. I just kept building it up until I achieved the desired size and color. After drying for about an hour, I applied a bit of Dry Mud and Light Dust to slightly highlight the mud and bring some vesatility to the tones. I also applied some Dry Mud directly to the wheels of the lascannon to make things more realistic.

The metal elements that were heavily exposed to the natural elements (like rain and oxygen) were rusted with MIG Pigments in my classic way by first applying a general layer of "Light Dust" and then adding "Black Smoke" where some serious burns occured and then in the most exposed areas, I applied "Standard Rust" which has a richer red tone.

So that is pretty much it - if you do your bases in the same way, please do yourselves a favor and do not forget to apply the Pigment Fixer - it will make your life so much easier, and your pigment application so much more durable.

I am posting an update of an Alaitoc Eldar Dark Reaper Exarch that I finished some time ago, but never had the chance to upload the pictures. The is Exarch Yriel - a noble warrior and respected leader. Like other Alaitoc Eldar forces, he participated in the Campaign to free Gloria Flax. He was one of the Eldar leaders to coordinate siege tactics and artillery maneuvers.

He was not involved in the Battle for Calvinus Prime, as only reconaissance units were sent to the surface of that planet.

The Dark Reapers were most active when the Alaitoc Fleet fully engaged the forces of Chaos at the Battle of Optimum II (this story is currently in the making).

I used mainly GW paints on this Exarch. Mordian Blue (from the Foundation line) was used as the Blue basecoat, while Deneb Stone (also Foundation) was used as the basecoat for the bone areas. Blue Shadows were done with Azurmen Blue wash, while the beige shadows were done with Gryphonne Sephia wash. Blue Highlights were done with Enchanted Blue and Ice Blue, while bone highlights were done in Bleached Bone and Skull White. Yellow areas were painted in my usual technique of building up layers from Iyanden Darksun all the way to Sunburst Yellow (of course not forgetting my MIG SIN Industries filters here and Golden Yellow), a technique that I use often for my Imperial Fists.

The base was weathered with MIG Pigments as always. The head of the Chaos Marine on the base, was painted in Rotting Flesh and then washed with Thraka Green - then I used MIG Industrial Dirt and Standard Rust to show that the head had been severed quite some time ago.
