Harlequin Gear
« on: February 16, 2002, 01:05:50 AM »
Well, I'm new here, but I thought I'd get out and ask some questions, so I was wondering about the close combat resolution with Harlequins...it says attacks can only be resolved with one special weapon, i.e. Harlequin's Kiss or Riveblade, etc.  However, it doesn't mention anything about wargear.  Thus, could one resolve all attacks with a Harlequin's Kiss, but ignore armor saves because they have powerblades, which are wargear, not a weapon (at least they're not listed as one.)?  Let me know everybody!
One bright day in the middle of the night, two dead boys came out to fight.  They stood back to back and faced each other, drew their swords, and shot one another.  A deaf policeman heard the noise, came out and killed the two dead boys.

This seems to get asked a lot. The powerblades are weapons. It's my guess that they are listed as wargear simply because it doesn't fit under the one handed weapons column and Thorpe couldn';t be bothered making a new column for wrist mounted weapons when there is only one.

The effects of the Harlequin's Kiss and Powerblades cannot be combined.
Eldrad was an Eldar Seer
Of him captured rangers gladly cheer:
whose realm, like many, was truly d**ned
Between the Eye and Imperial land.
His sword was long, his staff was keen,
In his ghosthelm the future was often seen;
The lightning storms of heaven vast
Were mirrored in his psychic blasts.
But soon he may fade away,
And what then of Ulthwe none can say;
Then into crystal will his body grow
In the Dome of Seers were old Farseers go.

as it says on onother post you would get the extra attacks from the power blades and wound on 2's etc but they would be allowed to have armour saves or you would wound normally have extra attacks and they are not allowed armour saves ok  ;D

Sure, it CAN be used.... If you wanna loose friends... ;D

BE SURE: Every one you use this combo against will not be happy playing 40K with you again!

Believe me! I did that once. My foe was everything but happy to see 8 khorne terminators going down in one turn  ::).

It was quite cool thogh.

It's up to you!

Well, this is my crusade....

NO!

You can't combine effects of different weapons, wether they are wargear or weapon-bought, are mounted on forearms or forehead, no no no.

When you use a model equipped with a kiss and blades you specify if you want to use the blades (wound with S vs T, no saves allowed) or the kiss (2+ to wound, normal saves apply) and you get +1 A for the extra weapon.

The quote in CJ 44 was my quote, misread by the fanatic press staff, and I am trying to get some sort of errata in there as well.

In the meantime I will post a letter every time someone says "Yes you can!"

Because you can't!

You can't combine the effects of a Harlequin's Kiss and Powerblades... aside from being against the rules, that's just not cricket! Why would anyone want to face you a second time?

I think they're under the wargear section, rather than weapons, because that way they won't count against the total number of weapons you're allowed to have on a model. Harlie characters should be flexible, and allowed to carry a large number of weapons, after all.
