1.5k vs DA: Crusade, known lists -help with tactics
« on: October 20, 2016, 07:17:38 AM »
I'll be fighting a campaign battle vs my good friend Tom's DA on Sunday.
As per campaign rules, we've submitted our lists and then been assigned a scenario and shown each others lists.
Something else to bear in mind is that this is an attrition campaign, so any model removed as a casualty in this battle is no longer available for future battles (we started with 4,000pts each)

Mission: Crusade

DA list:
CAD
HQ
librarian, lvl 2 - Telepathy
librarian, lvl 2 - Telepathy, TDA, combi-plasma (Warlord)
Troops
Tactical squad (5) (veteran sergeant, combi-melta, melta gun)
DT - Drop pod (locator beacon)
Tactical squad (6) (veteran sergeant, melta bombs, combi-flamer, flamer)
DT - Drop pod (locator beacon)
Tactical squad (5) (missile launcher)
DT - Rhino
Elites
Dreadnought (AC, HF)
DT - Drop pod (locator beacon)
Deathwing Terminator Squad (Cyclone, 2x TH/SS, 1x CF)
Fast Attack
Nephilim Jetfighter
Ravenwing bike squad (3) (melta bombs, 2x melta)
Heavy Support
Relic Sicaran Battle Tank (lascannon sponsons)

My List:
CAD
HQ
Autarch (Wings, mask ,shard)
Troops
3 x Windriders w/ Scatter
10 x DA inc Exarch w/ power & shimmer
Elites
5 x Wraithguard with D-Scythes
DT -Serpent: EML, chin cannon, holo
Fast Attack
6 x Hawks inc Exarch w/ Sunrifle
Heavy
Wraithlord w/ 2 x flamers & ghostglaive

Aspect Host (+1BS)
5 x Fire Dragons inc Exarch w/ DBF
DT -Serpent: EML, chin cannon, holo
3 x Reapers, starshot, inc Exarch w/ EML
3 x Reapers, starshot, inc Exarch w/ EML

I'm thinking of reserving the Jetbikes, DAs, dragons & wraithguard, sky-leaping the Hawks & Autarch, and trying to place the 2 Reaper squads in cover away from any objectives and  reasonably close together so they can both be supported by the WL.
The idea being the drop pods can either chase my troops, in which they have a long slog to secure objectives mid & late game, or land on/near objectives, in which case I'm protected from the alpha strike
I don't often play the reserve game though, so would appreciate any tips or alternative ideas.

I think your reserves works well, the wraithlord will of course have to take a beating the first couple of rounds.

However, attrition is never easy for eldar, I would try to keep away from the pods as much as possible, so you can ignore them, other wise you do have good units to take out each of his units.

Fire Dragons takes out the battle tank.
Reapers take out the bikes.
Wraithguards take out the termies.
Hawks take out the jetfighter.
I would probably aim the scattersbikes and the serpents at his marines to get rid of those nasty librarians, rather than the dreadnought but, don't let his dreadnought near your avengers.

If you can make a summary of how this game turns out would be happy to read it :)
Good luck :)

I play the beta-strike (especially against Marines) all the time and it works great. It stinks he's got a Sicaran... but remember it doesnt ignore cover, you just can't jink against it. So if you have decent 4+ cover you could probably get away with keeping the Dragons and Wraithguard on the board. But perhaps you don't want to risk it.

I think your deployment strategy is sound too. If you can get him to drop in all in one area you can hopefully get your Wraithguard to come in burn his deepstrikers out in one big go of things.

Anyway I think you've got a good plan. Good luck!

Thanks for your comments, guys.

I've not faced the Sicaran before, but it does rather seem perfect for killing Eldar. And yeah that dreadnought will do a real number on my DAs or Hawks if I let it.

I think I'm most worried about the fact that he has 6 Obsec units vs my 2. Unless I can tempt his drop pods away from the objectives, I think I'm going to have to almost table him to win.

I'll have a stab at taking photos & notes for a batrep. I always go into these games with such plans, and invariably get caught up in the game and forget all about it.
