what kind of paint for hard styro do you use?
« on: September 20, 2008, 10:39:41 PM »
today i went and bought a board of 2" hard styro. i plan to make sandstone desert type hills.

i was wondering what kind and what brand of paint should i use.

i did some searches on the intertubes and found lots of great tutorials but i couldn't find any recommendations for particular kinds of paints or brands.

thanks for any help.  :)

I would just PVA glue it and put sand down if you are making desert. Place some rocks that could represent boulders or other desert like terrain. Try drybrushing with a mix of light and dark browns to give the sand a better 'desert' feel. Primer would just melt the styrofoam, so that is my two cents.

Plasticoat have a polystyrene spray paint dedicated to priming foam but I don't know if its any good.

Yah, you can really use anything just about so long as it is applied with a brush.  Many folks will prime with white (brush-on) and then add other colors afterwards.

Mix some white (pva) glue 50:50 with water. Then add a dab of coloured paint (any).

Prime the whole piece of foam with it before painting (the colour lets you know you havnt missed any). You can then spray paint it any colour you want without damage.
