The IMI Desert Eagle isnt a crap gun, but it definatley isnt the best. Nice calibur, but let down by a small clip size.

But it does look cool though...

Over all pistols are worthless, this is why the PLA gives their officers rifles.

FN P-90(compact)
H+K MP5 (who doesn't?)
AK-74(lower, caliber more accurate version of the classic)
Glock 18 (I like the plastic gun)
So we'll fight against the wind for the glory of the kings
                  to defeat our evil enemies
And we'll ride with our lord for the power and the throne
in the name of holy thunderforce
Am i the only one who still has that?

*looks around* where's Steamboat Willy? This is a thread about guns, and Willy hasn't posted yet! I wonder if he's sick....

Well, its nice to see that people are concerned! no i wasn't ill, i was sleeping as it goes.

I opened up a thread like this a while ago, but meh, nevwer mind.

I have a long list of favorite guns:

The Luger:

The kar 98 is not that good, but i like it.

I am a bit partial to the M4 these days

The Desert Eagle has 8 shots when loaded with .50 action express, and 9 when loaded with .357 or .44 rounds. (it fires revolver cartridges, yes)  It has a habit of stovepiping, and the recoil is a be-atch (dont believe any of these films where they fire it one handed)

The G11 was revolutionary, but rememebr politics got in the way, so it isn't MADE anymore.  and it has a hard time peircing armour....

The G36?  well, it is one of the best 5.56mm NATO assualt rifles around, but it is expensive, not a bad product from HK, although they did abandon thier roller delayed blowback system on it....  :(

The OICW (operation invidividual combat weapon) is REAL.  It may come to replace the US army M16 in the next few years.  It is 5.56mm.

No james bonds new weapon is a walther P88.  The P38 has been out for 70 years now, and is currently still used by the german army as the P1.  They are both not bad.

OK, the AK47.  Its cheap, resistant to dirt, easy to maintain, but its a 'pay and spray' weapons.  Any weapons using a long stroke piston in a kalashnikov design sux for accuracy.   he druganov used a short stroke, making it accurate. (and thats not a bad rifle)

The AK74 is better.  (a good use of a 5.45mm round)

the MP5 is good, but if you honestly think you can fire one in each hand you are living in a dream world....

If i had the choice, i would arm the british army with FNP90's.  But, the would cost (by my calculations) about £195M.

The FN Five-seveN aint bad, 20 rounds, and a very efficent saftey.  (uses the FNP98 5.7mm round)

the Glock is good, lots of good 'plastic' guns have come out of Austria in recent years, like the Stery AUG.

The MG3 is pretty good, as Asteroth will tell you....

NOTE: the .50 browning cartridge CANNOT peirce a tank.
But, the Browning M2HB is quite a nice machinegun.

do you know what a magnum bullet is?  a magnum bullet contains more explosive than normal so it has a higher range, muzzle velocity, causes more damage ect.  BUT, the muzzle flare is bigger and the accuary goes down.

I am not fond of revolvers, but i like the Colt Anaconda (gotta love the .44)

M16 is Ok, but succeptable to dirt and dust..

The SA80 is great anywhere BUT the desert, where we do most of our fighting...

err... that all i can think about at the moment....

is that enough or you want more.....?

Woot i like the Lee Enfeild .303 with a 10x zoom (saw one for $300 once in a hunting+fishing shop)

the ten-shot bolt action?  The .303 has a lot of kick to it, but see if you can secure yourself a Lee Enfeild SMLE MK3.  They havn't made them since 1942, but they have the SMOOTHEST bolt action ever!

it may not be as reliable or accurate as the mauser bolt, but the Lee turn-bolt sure is accurate!  ;)

3. Uzi (Israeli *hack spit!*)
4. Simonov AT Rifle (Soviet)
5. PPSh SMG (Soviet)

1. Which one?  the kalashnikov is the name of the system, not the gun
2.You mean, the China type 57?  With the carbine thats longer than the normal version?
3. Ireal have made some goods guns, like the Galiel, the Jericho and not forgetteing the famous Desert Eagle, the Uzi is a very good weapon
4. Ahh, the reds stole the short cartridge idea from captured german stg44's and made this rifle.  First mass-produced in 1947, they still make 'em, with over 15 million in circulation
5. Ahh, the reds made like 3 million of these during the war, they are the most common of the 3 wartime soviet machineguns.  They shipped most of thier stocks of the 3 SMG's to vietman tho.

now theres some expert info for ya!

M-16 for the shear cool look of it, but if it comes to effectiveness the sure AK-47 hands down

i'd reverve what you just said.  M16 is more effective than AK47.  It has some accuracy for a start...

When you can spray bullets as fast as a AK-47 accuracy isn't that important.........

I'd also like to point out that in Vietnam the G.I's often prefered AK-47s.

the AK47 has terrible accuracy at long ranges, it fires a potentially dangerous cartridge, fire any more than 2 or 3 rounds in a burst and you probably wont hit.  granted its cheap, easy to use and clean.  but this is why it is favoured by gansters and militia:  It requires no training and you just 'spray and pray' when you shoot at something.  the AK74 is much better.

and the M16 is Ok at ranges, good 3 round burst, reliable cartridge, and the sustained fire is not that bad for a rfifle of its type.

so there.  but i doubt i have changed your mind on the subject.

i'dd have to agree with Edex here. The AK47 is more reliable then the m-16, i used both in muck combat situations, althow the 16 has better acuratie, the 47 keeps going even when you scoup a hand of dirt down its barrel. And acuratie is not needed in a full automatic, when i'm spraying 200 bullits a minute i just need to point the barrel in a general direction and i'll probably hit something  :D ;D

But you must take into account 3 things:
1. The Soviets wanted simple things that could be easily mass produced in a war. The AK-47 does this.
2. Suits their tactic (draw them in close), the AK-47 is perfect up close.
3. The massive army, obviously not everyone is gonna be a crack commando, so a easy to use and maintain gun is what is needed- this is what a AK-47 is.

i was simply stating the facts.  the AK47 is better for some situations and not others, like the M16 is.

And while are on the subject Klashnikov Vs M Series

i will say this much:

the PK better than the M60, while the M249 SAW is better than the RPK-74.

The PK is lighter, and more reliable, and more accurate strangley.... :P
