Title: Dark Eldar Xeno Fighters
Post by: Dead-Head Jenkinsons on July 22, 2008, 03:18:36 PM
So the doctrine says that it can be used against dark eldar but could a regiment fluff-wise be able to learn to effectively fight dark eldar before being cut down?
Wouldn't it be a rare occurance to fight dark eldar anyways?

I ask this because my friend says that they never would be able to. Im not sure at all :(

Perhaps Craftworld Eldars and Dark Eldars have a similar fighting style? It could explain why a regiment who has Eldar as preferred enemy has also the Dark Eldars as preferred enemy.

Probably, but there are all sorts of ways you could justify it. Perhaps they come from a planet which is regularly visited by Dark Eldar slaving ships, and they've accumulated all sorts of lore about how to fight them. If you want to get a little more esoteric and specialist, you could say that they're a sort of rapid-response privateer force. Spending most of their time aboard ship interdicting marauders in a sector fraught with piracy. Their Astropath, a highly skilled predictive psyker, gets visions that warn him of attacks. He then takes a reading of the Emperor's Tarot to determine the time and location, and the ship is dispatched to deal with the threat.

In a universe like the 40k one, it's very easy to come with interesting reasons for pretty much anything. You have so much scope to use.

As stated, it could be anything. Space Elves are all the same anyway.

Perhaps the regiment fights Eldar a lot, and the fighting styles are similar.

Perhaps it was a "Thirty Days of Night" Scenario, where the IG/PDF are stranded on a planet, cut off by warp turbulence or the shadow of a nearby gas giant or something, and then subsequently tortured by dozens of raids over a prolonged period of time until the hardbitten survivors become attuned with an almost sixth sense.

Perhaps the regiment takes part in experimental drugs testing or uses banned or controlled substances or is being monitered, guinea-pig style by an Inquisitor while fed drugs that boost reaction time, stamina and aggression, and it just so happens that in this particular battle, they're fighting a Dark Eldar raiding force that got more than they bargained for.

Maybe the regiment consists entirely of Ninjas who were orphaned by Dark Eldar slavers. With a score to settle, these black clad night assassins fight against their hated parent-murderers with laser shurikens and untold ferocity.

this statement would get you immediately decapitated by any dark eldar and subsequently mind warred by the nearest farseer.

i would be willing to purchas a whole new IG army if they came out with ninja rules and models.  i wonder if ninja techniques would be considered warpcraft

I do tend to make generic statements, I suppose. One race is a high Initative, poor armour-save, fleeting army which fires lots of sharp bits of metal from it's main weapons and wears comical conehead hats, while the other race is...

;)

*Ahem*

Yes, I'm sure Dark Eldar fighters would probably be a lot rarer than most other X-Fighters, maybe they're members of an Ordos Xenos Inquisitor's personal army or something. Anyway, you can tell him to suck it up, since anyone who takes Wyches deserves to be hit on a 3+ in combat. Simply because there is no way that naked Space Elves with nets and cattle-prods are more effective in close quarter fighting than 9 foot tall, concrete encased, fused ribcage, acid spitting Space Marine Terminators with miniature rocket launchers and CHAINSAWS STRAPPED TO OVERSIZED ELECTROFISTS!

Hard to disagree with that.

Maybe they read a book

well there is also the fact that most dark eldar would never fight space marine terminators, arnt there only like a few dozen sets of terminator armor in each chapter.  they're used to fight humanity's most dangerous threats, so unless the dark eldar decide to make a raid on terra and try and take the emperor's soul i doubt that terminators would really be fielded against a bunch of space pirates.

A topic for another time, perhaps, but it happens too often in the game, but that's a flaw of 40K and it's marine-centric nature. But that's a topic for another time...

Well, it is known that dogs have Prefered Enemy: Dark Eldar, so who knows, maybe they spray themselves in dog smell which confuses Dark Eldar?

I found that less humourous than a bus packed with nuns going over a cliff.

There is nothing further to add to this thread.
