Right forgot about that. Although some things in the list do not really apply to asian people generally such as playing the violin and piano because i know a lot of chinese poeple that don't.But the rest are pretty accurate

Quite correct. Personally, I tend toward the brass instruments: mellophone, French horn, and trombone.

I'm curious: any of you guys know how to speak any dialect of chinese? Did your parents force you to learn when you were young?

My parents go psycho over the fact that I'm speaking english better than I speak Viet, and they insist that I'll grow up to be an American (like that's a bad thing?), because I don't know Viet that well.

Happens with nearly every Vietnamese person I know.  It's either that, or they're gangsters, so their parents are too afraid to lecture them otherwise they'll wind up on cops.... ..ah, well.....

sweet zombie jesus!  I'm not even asian, but too many of those things describe me! creepy....although I am supposed to have a japanese uncle somewhere along the line....and I have a chinese girlfriend....and at my school, about 8/10 students are asian...and I went to Japan once and didnt want to have to return to crummy ol' BC....and I study Kung Fu...and I'm a great fan of Tzu, Musashi, etc....and I love tea....and oh dear, I'm running out of predictable reasons why I'm white asian (they really should have a word for that...something like "wigger" but a little more subtle...)

meh, what can I say.  Where I live in Canada, whites are practically a minority,  which is absolutly a-ok with me...I'm even struggling to learn to learn japanese (known to us white trash as the easiest of asian languages....IMHO, n. america's supposed economic superiority is running out, the future belongs to asia....time to jump on the bandwagon.)

I am fluent in Cantonese and English [one wopuld hope]. I know a few words and phrases in Mandarin.

Well i speak english fluently but since i was born here in canada i don't know how to write cantonese but can speak it with some grammar mistakes here and there.

I am much, much better at English than I am at Mandarin... somehow, I just can't seem to learn Mandarin well.

japanese is easier to learn i'd say, more reasons to for one thing! (i know of people that learned it to play japanese games!)

Well it really depends on how often you use it like for me i only talk cantonese with parents and relatives(though i am slow at times).

Fou Lou the imortal emperor that controls a kingdom for many generations and keeps coming back..

As Antioch, I should also call myself a half and half (asian mind in a white body). About a 1/3 of the list was true for me.

And oh! I'm a Quebecer and speaks French all the time with a bit of English when necessary (i.e. on EO).  

For Monkey in a Jumpsuit: I adopted a vietnamese baby in 2000 (a 2nd is on the way). SO in about 10 years from now, there will be two more EO members of vietnamese origin.   Unfortunately, you'll have to learn French by then.

Heh, when Pokemon Gold wasn't released in the US yet I had japanese ROMs of it and found a website to teach enough words to get the gist of most sentences.

It took a few weeks, but I could sort of understand it.

But by then they already had translations before Nintendo did  



I'm not even the tiniest bit Asian, but around 80% of that stuff applies to me.

I'm 1/4 Polish, 1/8 German, 1/32 Cherokee indian, then a huge mix of a bunch of other european countries.

lol!  i'm not asian myself, but this fits a few of my friends perfectly!  (especially the giant sized tv surround sound set up for kareokee.  that was scary)  hmm.  mebbe i should start a canadian one...

a lot (and I do mean a LOT) of malnourished children and destitute families live in vietnam, and more are always on  the way, you know  .

and I'd like to learn japanese for, yes, comprehension of japanese games.

and people do tell me I look japanese, too, so why not lead them on lol.

For Chinese people, there are a few things you left out... if you're Chinese, you have a cell phone, pager, and a car - and wherever you go, if there are 5 people going, you'll be driving 5 cars... Chinese people don't understand the meaning of car pool =)
