12th Black Crusade?
« on: June 23, 2004, 12:01:10 PM »
This seems like a good place to put this since it is about BFG.

In Armada there is a passage that reads: ...the Black Crusade which ravaged the Gothic sector between 142.M41 and 160.M41. (p42) Does this mean that the Gothic War was considered a Black Crusade?

No, the Gothic War was something entirely different.

They went through the Arx Gap, bypassing Cadia. They then ravaged the entire Gothic sector, untill the Planet Killer was crippled.

I think for it to be consider a Black Crusade, it needs two things.

1. An attack on Cadia/Cadian Gate.
2. Insane numbers of Chaos followers.

I guess I am. Though its probably another case of GW messing up thier fluff (which often happens). A Black Crusade has an objective, namely Earth. The Gothic War was really just a load of rampaging, with some Blackstone Fortresses being nicked.

The event known as the Gothic War was one of Abbadon's Black Crusades.
Black Crusades are pretty much just anytime Abbadon leads a sizeable attack on worlds outside of the EoT, and some Black Crusades have been launched in the opposite direction of Terra to say that Terra is goal of a single Black Crusade would be wrong.

Oh, ok then. Yes the Gothic War is counted as a Black Crusade. Dont know why, but heck, when should reason stand in the way of GW's fluff.

I know why!

1) The whole Gothic sector was plunged into anarchy.

2) Countless lives were lost (and a planet blown up!).

3) The Blackstone Fortresses were lost.

Overall, it was a major campaign, not just some minor boarder skirmish.

Yes but the term Crusade indicates an objective, namely Earth. Unless the Blackstone Fortresses were the objectives?

The Gothic War was really Abaddon partying with his new toy. And who can blame him

The objective was to capture the Blackstones, so yes, it was a Black Crusade.
