Glorious Victory
« on: November 6, 2014, 09:33:06 PM »
I played my first game with the new Dex earlier in the evening against our wayward kin.

Archon with Huskblade, soultrop, shadowfield, Portal

4x Warriors
 Blaster
Venom with Splinter cannon

Voidraven with Dark Sycthes and Night Shields

Razorwing with Dark Lances and Night Shields

Dark Artisan Formation
Haemonculus (warlord) with Portal & Syndriq's Sump
Talos
Chronos with spirit probe and Vortex

Shadowseer
Wraithguard
 D sycthes
Wave Serpent
Scatter laser, Shuriken Cannon, holo fields

Crimson Hunter

I played my first game with them tonight against Eldar using a tournament mission he wanted to try out.  5 objectives. You scored them at the beginning of your turn but could only core them once so there was fierce fighting for control throughout the entire game.

The Dark Artisan formation was nastier than I expected.  With the warlord trait they rerolled 1s on FNP and were able to eat through a wraith knight, 3 spiritseers, and a squad and a half of wraithguard.  I did make some incredible IWND rolls gaining 3 hit points back on the Chronos, 2 on the Haemonculus, and 2 on the Talos.

The Archon deep struck in with the a wave serpent full of wraithguard.  They killed Eldrad with some nasty distortion rolls and capped 2 objectives but didn't get to do much else.

The venoms and warriors soaked up a ton of damage during the first two turns killed off two squads of warriors, 3 venoms, and 1 hull point off the last one.

My 3 flyers were up against a single Crimson hunter exarch that I kept making saving throws against.  It pretty much left my flyers unmolested so I could roam around hunting his wave serpents.  I ended up tabling him at the end of turn 5.

Final Thoughts: The web way portal allowed me to drop my nastiest units in his face which freed up my flyers and my remaining warriors/venom to hold objectives.  Objective secured preventing him from scoring one objective all game and forced him to throw a lot more at the other than he wanted to.

Ouch. Sounds like the "wraithway bomb" is as nasty as we all suspected it would be.  Congrats on the win! I hope your opponent wasn't too frustrated that his crimson hunter and Eldrad failed to do much, but I suppose it's a lesson he can take back to the craftworld. :)

Also, I just coined the term "wraithway bomb."  You heard it here first, folks!

4x Warriors

Venom with Splinter cannon
This isn't legal any more - you buy 5 warriors as a unit, and can then add more, add weapons, upgrade them to Trueborn etc.  A bit frustrating, because I used to like to run 4 Trueborn with my Archon in a venom.  That said my "Archon" was Duke Sliscus, so that particular build is dead and buried anyway.  :'(

That sounds encouraging - I think it's the formation from the new Haemie book that I'm most excited about because I can use it to take a Cronos and Talos without using any HS slots in a Kabalite force.  Not that there is much pressure on HS any more, since Ravagers got nerfed and Razorwings got moved.  The other major advantage of the Dark Artisan is using a WWP (as you did) to drop these slow moving monsters right where you need them.  Yes please  :D

I had four squads of warriors in venoms. Five in a squad.

Oh right.  Misunderstood your notation.
Nevertheless, my mourning of 4 man Trueborn squads to escort an Archon in Venom stands.
