Alaitoc 1750 Competition - Mechanized + Flyers
« on: November 25, 2017, 01:53:21 AM »
1 BATTALION, 1 VANGUARD, 1 AIR WING of Alaitoc
1746 pts
8 CP

ALAITOC BATTALION - 360 pts
Farseer with Witchblade (WARLORD: Seer of the Shifting Vector) (RELIC: Shiftshroud of Alanssair), Doom, Executioner
Illic Nightspear
5 Rangers
5 Rangers
5 Rangers

ALAITOC VANGUARD - 856 pts
Warlock with Witchblade, Quicken/Restrain
5 Fire Dragons, 1 is Exarch with DB Flamer
7 Howling Banshees, 1 is Exarch with Executioner
5 Wraithblades with Ghostswords
Wave Serpent with 3 Shuriken Cannons, Vectored Engines
Wave Serpent with 3 Shuriken Cannons, Vectored Engines
Wave Serpent with 3 Shuriken Cannons, Vectored Engines

ALAITOC AIR WING - 530 pts
Crimson Hunter
Crimson Hunter
Hemlock Wraithfighter with Jinx

In this list, we will start with the first Battalion entirely in reserve, and on the table will be 3 Wave Serpents with Elites, and 3 Flyers. If the Wave Serpents Move and Advance, they'll be very hard to hit, as the flyers are. The Rangers and Illic will show up and ALSO be hard to hit before the first turn, and the Farseer will come in where needed to support the mechanized units and the Rangers.

Most of the time, the enemy will have -2 to hit unless he's pretty close to everything in this army, and we've basically ducked the "ghost warriors" theme for something a bit more sneaky. Still considering if those Banshees should be Scorpions, which are ALSO sneaky and can deep strike, but more models on the board might be a good idea. Thoughts?

This is not fluffy at all, looks more Iyanden to me in every way.

Competitively I think it will do fine, but hordes are going to be an issue, with only 22 models, they will swarm you, and melee is going to hurt a lot, despite most units can retreat from it and still shoot, all a smart horde player would need to do is to play bumper cars and push you into a corner. This may not be as easy to do in practice as in theory, but most horde armies could just point and click.

As for improving the list, how about dropping the 2 underslung cannons on the 2 serpents carrying scytheguards, since they want to get close anyway, then use the points to upgrade that warlock to a spiritseer?

Hmm, good point. Maybe we can retool the contents of the wave serpents and flyers to free up some points for a Battalion of Rangers with Illic. That will also give this list a stationary/infiltrating element that will give it more diversity of ways of movement. We can do this all while maintaining a base -1 to be hit on everything if the only models that start outside of vehicles are Rangers. Here's a new version:

1 BATTALION, 1 VANGUARD, 1 AIR WING of Alaitoc

Now, that's a real Alaitoc list :D
I would try to squeeze out a little more with a singing spear for the farseer rather than the executioner for the banshee exarch though.

Scorpions could be just as good as banshees, but the war shout combined with Alitoc can get really frustrating for an opponent :)
Unless you really want to include something else, for the cost of the banshees serpent (the scorpions don't need one) I think you should stick to banshees.

FYI from the list competition post: "Any changes must be done to the original post in your army list thread.  Reposting the list further in the thread will not be considered legitimate changes for the contest."
