Title: LychGuard or Praetorians, how?
Post by: FieryHammer on November 8, 2012, 10:22:14 PM
I want so badly to be able to use these units, particularly the Praetorians but they seem so inefficient.  I like the look and concept behind these guys but they are REALLY expensive for what you get.  I am wondering how people use them, if they do?

I can see Lychguard with swords and shields with a Lord attached an orb and maybe a weave and warscythe to soak up some wounds and contend with Armor 2 and vehicles being effective, but little else.

I would really like to get Praetorians into my list but I can't see how they can be used well.  Any advise or tactics will be appreciated.

I used Preatorians a lot in 5th and they were quite difficult. But with new jump pack rules, and the change to their close combat weapons, I am now trying a 5 man unit with a destroyer lord.

It's my only close combat unit in my list.... I haven't tried it yet though, but it's the only way I see them working in 6e. Not that it's a bad thing, but the Lord should help with his Preferred Enemy.

Yeah that is about the only thing you can do with them, which is the problem for me.  For what they cost, you really want to get an orb in the unit and the only way to do that without hindering their movement is a Destroyer Lord. But then your looking at a near 350 pt unit that only has 5 shots and 10 CC attacks at I1 and only armor 3 (exluding the Lord).

...But they do pack a punch.  I guess I'm just reticence to put that many points into a unit that can get destroyed relatively easily by good AP weapons.
