Title: Master of the Forge
Post by: Ends_Mouth on September 3, 2011, 07:14:17 AM
Forgeworld has recently put this up:

http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/New_Stuff/VALTHEX-ASTRAL-CLAWS-MASTER-OF-THE-FORGE.html (http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/New_Stuff/VALTHEX-ASTRAL-CLAWS-MASTER-OF-THE-FORGE.html)

I think it looks awesome, and while I love some of the conversion beamer conversions I've seen, I really dig this and also the one for the Contemptor( here: http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/New_Stuff/CONTEMPTOR-HEAVY-CONVERSION-BEAMER.html (http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/New_Stuff/CONTEMPTOR-HEAVY-CONVERSION-BEAMER.html) )

Thought that seeings as this hadn't appeared yet people would enjoy a peep.

I think the gun looks rather good, although a little like it fell off the magic roundabout.
The figure itself tho is rather boring, it could have been so much more.
I mean it could have been more dynamically posed if it was sitting cross legged and picking its nose!
When looking at the cost, £19, I find it rather un-inspiring for the centre piece of an army.
If I spend that on an hq model I want it to be dramatic, not as dreary as FW's effort here.
Sad really as I'm a real FW fan for the most part.
My .2pence.

In all honesty you could probably do something much nicer with the existing Techmarine model and a couple of Dark Eldar bits. The emitter on the haywire blaster looks particularly tasty, ditto for the regular blaster, so you can either buy a box of Scourges (and use the Scourges themselves for casualties) or bribe a Dark Eldar-playing friend who isn't using his haywire blasters, and use those to build a conversion beamer of your own.

Actually, that gives me an idea...

I'm actually a big fan of less dramatic poses myself, not that I shy away from them.

This is your lucky day then  ;)
Honestly, you couldnt get LESS dynamic than this fig. Sure i dont expect it to be ballet dancing, but standing slump shouldered like a bored teenager?
I dub thee the Kevin and Perry marine!
New FW rules should include:

The moody silent sulk: All units within 6" mill around aimlessly and diss-obey orders!

The Urrrrrgh: Comunications have failed! Reserves are all delayed till next turn!

The "your so NOT funny": The KP marine must move the opposite direction to the rest of your forces!

Dont forget the 'goodbye forever' (you must use the motfs leadership for everything, or risk losing him, and the 'hormonal teenager' if there are any female models within los of the master, anyone trying to hit him gains +1 ws and bs.

Honestly though, I think it looks alright, im quite a fan of this retro look forge world are going for right now, though it is a bit static.

If you get rid of the whips and have him trying to read an instrument or something then I'd be all over that model.
