A swirling tempest of blue-green errupts as Warlord Anakron's Fleet rips out of the Warp and back into real space in the Olnuma System.  "Where are weze!" Bellowed the Warlord from his captain's chair.  "Hurry up so we can get ta krumpin!"  Dozens of Gretchen poured over the sensor relays and starcharts desperate to find the answer before angering the Warlord further.  He was already disappointed and agitated at the long journey inside the massive Space Hulk Kellamitty had taken for his command ship.

Behind him stood the diminutive Warphead Bogdurk, who tapped the Warlord nervously on the shoulder.  "WHAT IS IT BOGDURK!" bellowed the Warlord.

"Well, boss, we can't stay here."
"And why Zoggin Not!  Isn't there anyfing here fer us ta Krump?!"
"Look at this sensor report, these pyramids on the third moon."
"Ya theyze look like Pyramids, so what!"

The Warphead with a gleam of terror in his eyes whispered "Morgargdurlurkgulsh ardregsnikslag."  All of a sudden the busy room drew quiet.

"Morgargdurlurkgul-what?"
"Morgargdurlurkgulsh ardregsnikslag, the fortress of ancient, terrifying power, land of waiting death, pain and destruction.  The home of the undying silver boyz."

Out from the hallway crept the faint smell of pipe smoke, as the Manic Mek Muklaz entered the bridge.  "Morgargdurlurkgulsh ardregsnikslag you say.  Seems interesting.  Warlord Anakron, I've been hopin we might find someplace like this.  Legendz say that the metals of dem silver boyz were alive.  If we can find out how dey make dat metal, I can make a stompa, no the whole fleet invincibal."

A toothy grin crept over the Warlord's face.  "Get da boyz ready, we'ze gonna do some Lootin."

...

The Tomb began to power up after countless millennia.  For decades the ancient sensors had noticed the passing presence of man, orklings and other races; but nothing to warrant awakening the Tomb as a whole.  Nothing that is until now.  As several fleets of ships entered and exited the systems of the Necron Multiverse, it was now time to awaken the Cells and to once again harvest the stars. Yet as the Necron Cells began to emerge from their ancient alcoves of dormancy, they knew instantly that something had gone terribly wrong.

When the Necron Cells had last gone into stasis, they knew it would be for millennia, and took strides to ensure that when they awoke things would be as they should.  However somewhere along the line something went wrong.  The Necrodermis Generator was offline, and due to the unaccounted variables of polar shifts, seismic instabilities, and continental drifts, this piece of technology was unaccounted for. Without a functional generator, it would prove difficult for their army to repair at the speeds necessary to engage in long-term conflicts. Were such a device to fall into the hands of any other race, a succesful defense against the long-term machinations of the Necrontyr might possibly be developed. Fortunately, there was just one presence in the area with enough mass to prove problematic - that of the Orks.

The chrome green colossus known to the Imperium as File 100111 0111 111, codenamed "El Deceivio" saw the flaw instantly as he awoke from status; thus he called his warriors to rise and retreive the "Necrodermus Generator". He also sent out relays to as many other Necron Cells as he could in the hopes that somehow his communica would be received and answered so that multiple Necron Cells could work in unison to not only retreive the "Necrodermus Generator" but also to erradicate the multiverse of these impudent green upstarts.

Because this was highly entertaining the last time something like it was done a couple years back, and becaquse we'd like to give members a reason to hop back and forth between forum boards other than idle curiosity, a new cross-forum event is being held. This one is going to be between Ork and Necron members, and if it goes over well, the format will spread to other armies of the forum. If you're interested, then by all means, sign up!

What we expect when you sign up:
That you think you'll be able to get a game in, or do one of the other related activities [campaign hero portrait or fiction piece]. We're not asking much in the way of commitment, since this is the internet! It's better to sign up and fail to play anything than to not sign up at all, unless you're absolutely 100% sure you've no interest in this event.

How to Sign Up:
Simply post into this thread with your intent to join along with the army you're using [Necrons or orks] and the sector you'd like to play in [see below, and do note you'll be able to change this if necessary]...

Don't have an Ork or Necron army?
Keep your eyes open because there are plans for more of these sort of events featuring other of the 40K armies coming up in the future! Due to the nature of this format we're trying to keep the focus narrow, and if it works out, might open it up a bit more next time.

Sector 1: Under 1000pts
Sector 2: 1000pts-1500pts

Brutes against Bots - Team Scoring and Individual Notoriety
« Reply #1 on: September 8, 2010, 05:24:39 PM »
How your team scores Campaign Points (CP):

Your team scores Campaign Points primarily by having its players fight battles at their LGS, with friends, or wherever. The team scores CP based on its overall performance in each Sector as follows:

3 CP to the team who has the most players win the Campaign Special Mission, "IT'S THEM!", during the campaign
3 CP for each Sector where all players won their match
2 CP for each Sector where at least 1 player won a match and at least 1 player lost a match
1 CP for each Sector where no players won a match and at least 1 player logged a game
1 CP for at least 1 player logging the Bonus Mission for the round
-1 CP each time a player changes their Sector Assignment
-1 CP each week the rival team wins the special mission "IT'S THEM!"

Teams can also gain CP for non-battle participation:
1 CP for each member that submits an article for Campaign Fiction [insert URL] here [insert URL]
1 CP for each member that submits a Campaign Hero Portrait [insert URL] here [insert URL]
1 CP for each member that submits an Ancient Tablet Marker/Diorama [insert URL] here [insert URL]
5 CP if everyone in their faction submits at least 1 battle report for a campaign match - post the batreps in this thread and PM your organizer a link to your batrep post, so we can get it indexed ASAP!

The team that scores the most Campaign Points by the close of the Campaign wins!

In order to log your battles you need to send a PM to your team captain before the round closes, which'll contain the following info:

Quote
-The Sector you're assigned to
-The mission you played - use the name of the standard or bonus mission you played, eg Dawn of War or Double-Cross
-Who you fought
-The results of the match
-A highlight or two from the match - coolest thing you did, worst thing you suffered, something that surprised you

Assuming you send this PM before the end of the round, your battle will be credited towards your team's performance.

Each player will be credited with a Notoriety Rank based on what they accomplish. This will be used to determine which of the players has achieved the most. You can earn Notoriety as follows:
1 NP - for each game you win
1 NP - for each battle report you submit
1 NP - for each bonus mission you play, win or lose
2 NP - for completing the Double-Cross mission as the winner at least once
5 NP - for submitting at least one Campaign Hero Portrait
5 NP - for submitting at least one Ancient Tablet
5 NP - for submitting at least one piece of Campaign Fiction

Note - this means a player who wins the Double-Cross mission and submits a battle report earns 5 NP for doing so.

Individuals will be getting something for the Most Notorious award during the campaign - at the very least a suitable title that will proclaim the depths of your depravity, the wantonness of your destruction, so get stuck in!

Brutes against Bots campaign - Schedule and Bonus Missions
« Reply #2 on: September 8, 2010, 07:10:33 PM »
Campaign Schedule:
For the sake of expediency, and because we've never tried to run an online campaign this swiftly, the campaign schedule for Brutes against Bots will be slated as follows:

September 12th - Campaign Signup opens
September 26th - Campaign Begins!
Round 1     Begins September 26th     Ends October 9th     Bonus Mission - Interrupted...
Round 2     Begins October 3rd     Ends October 16th     Bonus Mission - Hiding Something?
Round 3     Begins October 10th     Ends October 23rd     Bonus Mission - Secure the Tablet!
Round 4     Begins October 17th     Ends October 30th     None (but you can still play "IT'S THEM!!!")
October 30th - Campaign Hero Portraits, Fiction Articles and Batreps must all be submitted by the end of the day [GMT-5]
Campaign Closes October 31st (please allow a little time to do calculations and etc)

Note that each round you can log ONLY ONE of the following:
-a standard mission from the rulebook
-the campaign special mission, "IT'S THEM!!!"
-the bonus mission for the current round

Bonus Missions:
The rules for the bonus missions can be found here as they become available ["IT'S THEM!!!" will be available every round of the campaign]:

Quote
"IT'S THEM!!!" (Brutes against Bots All-Campaign Special Mission)

The Orks and Necrons run afoul of each other and a bloodbath ensues as each seeks to hold their rival back by killing them to bits! Each faction has assumed it found the correct tablet, but the enemy's smug grins/implaccable glares make their rivals uncertain. The only way to be sure the correct tablet has been found is to personally dispatch the enemy's leaders, and to this end, your army makes an extra commander available to ensure the job gets done right!

This mission uses the rules for any of the standard missions from the rulebook, but the Force Organization is changed somewhat. Each army may field up to 3 HQ choices, and is only required to field a single troops choice.

This is the bonus mission for Round 1:

Quote
Interrupted... (Bonus Mission for Round 1)
While the Necrons [or Orks] are searching for the Necrodermus generator, an enemy army takes the opportunity to launch a surprise attack! Your force is caught totally off-guard and must hold out long enough to regroup and chase the enemy away!

Your deployment zone is a 12" x 12" square in the center of the table, and you may choose which long board edge counts as your board edge. You must deploy at least 1 HQ and 2 troops choices in your deployment zone. Any other units may be deployed or held in reserves. Your opponent then can deploy his units anywhere within 6-12 inches of any table edge other than your own. The objective is to make it to Turn 5 with at least one Troop unit alive - do this succesfully and you win, any other result is a loss.

Current Sector deployment for Round 1:
Faction   Sector 1   Sector 2   Sector 3
Orks   incredibleskulk   OD from TV   Khemri.
   Hekkastor   JimmyHatfield   Skeetergod
         Azonalathious
         Jack_Merridew
         Angel of death 007
Necrons   Blindmage   NecronCell2131   Firefox
   Doopsie   Lazarisreborn   moc065
      Killersquid   Kaiju Senso
      Killersquid   LetTheHarvestBegin

This is the bonus mission for Round 2:

Quote
Hiding Something? (Bonus Mission for Round 2)
Perhaps a rival within your own army seeks to steal glory from you, and take the credit for finding the location of the Necrodermus Generator. Or perhaps you simply suspect one of your "allies" isn't sharing everything they know with you. The stakes are high and your master [whoever you serve!] intends to reward the individual who recovers the Necrodermus Generator extremely well. You intend to ensure that reward goes to you!

Play this mission at any points level against the same army as your own! So, if you're using Orks, this game is against other Orks; if you're using Necrons, that's right - fight some Necrons! For the purposes of this mission both players only get 1 HQ choice, which must be an Independent Character - and who isn't a named character [no C'tan or Grotsniks!]. The mission uses the Spearhead deployment from the rulebook. To win this mission, your HQ must survive the battle and the enemy's must be slain. If both HQ choices remain alive [or if both end up dead] the match is a draw, and your faction loses 1 CP as the clues you fight over get destroyed during the scrap-up.

Current Sector deployment for Round 2:
Faction   Sector 1   Sector 2   Sector 3
Orks   incredibleskulk   OD from TV   Khemri.
   Hekkastor   JimmyHatfield   Skeetergod
         Azonalathious
         Jack_Merridew
         Angel of death 007
Necrons   Blindmage   NecronCell2131   Firefox
   Doopsie   Lazarisreborn   moc065
      Killersquid   Kaiju Senso
      Killersquid   LetTheHarvestBegin

This is the Bonus Mission for Round 3:

Quote
Secure the Tablet! (Bonus Mission for Round 3)
Archeologists have been unearthing Necron ruins in the area and stumbled upon an ancient Tablet about the [device].  The Orks think they've finally found it after interrogating a Rogue Trader, whose fate is best left unsaid. The Necrons believe they've found it because the trader had set off a beacon, drawing the attention of the Necron Lords.

For this mission place a single objective marker in the center of the board at the beginning of the battle, representing the ancient tablet.  Unlike usual objective games, any unit of infantry can claim it by moving into base contact with it.  Once they do the counter travels with that unit until the unit is killed.  Any unit holding the Tablet cannot be transported by any vehicle, and independent characters may not voluntarily join or leave the unit. The player who controls the objective at the end of the game wins; if neither controls the objective, the game is a draw. This mission cannot be played against Necrons or Orks.

The current sector deployment for Round 3 is as follows:

Faction   Sector 1   Sector 2   Sector 3
Orks   incredibleskulk   OD from TV   Khemri.
   Hekkastor   JimmyHatfield   Skeetergod
         Azonalathious
         Jack_Merridew
         Angel of death 007
Necrons   Blindmage   NecronCell2131   Firefox
   Doopsie   Lazarisreborn   moc065
      Killersquid   Kaiju Senso
      Killersquid   LetTheHarvestBegin

Good luck!

Not sure if you're quite ready, looking at all the 'under construction' bits, but I'd like to sign myself up for Sector 3.

Hopefully this will encourage me to paint a model or two for some character portraits...

You want us to draw a pic of our hero? or to paint a hero? or both...?

I'm up for sector 2 and 3.  And I should be able to write up a fiction and draw a portrait.

That's a great rewrite and expansion of the Necron fluff.  Didn't know that there were cells of Necron warriors, and I got the alcoves from the Borg (What can I say, I'm a trekkie and they are very similar).

Only things I have to comment on is that according to the Necron codex they know the Ork as the Krork.  I think its much harder to write fluff from the Necron perspective or even about them for that matter.

Do we want to add an imperial date for reference?  If we do I'd recommend no earlier than M.37 (2 thousand years after the crash of the Orks on Angelis causing the events of GorkaMorka which are referenced in that incomprehensible Ork word for the pyramids).  Has it stands though I'm against putting it at M.40/M.41 as that's when everything is happening all at once, and its a little annoying.  However this is where I'm proving myself to be a little too obsessed over fluff so I'm going to shut up now.

Truly beautiful work. That's the kind of stuff that makes a true mekanik cry tears of joy.

Sign me up for sector 2 Necrons.  I'll dust them off and see if they still got it!

Thanks; but you did the dirty work.

The alcove part is a bit out there; but I figured I would leave it stand as they actually phase out into the structures at hand (usually ground) but that would be tough to decribe at a humanoid level. The alteration of the 1010 bits into sections of 12-8-6-4-3 are part of my own Necrodermus-Tomb-Cell-FOC-Unit designation coding but I figured what the hell it looked better than a random bunch of 1's & 0's. You got it right about the krork bit too; but I figured that might confuse the Bio-noid races.

As for time. Time is not relavant to Necrons, we are timeless and without age. We are also the most 3vil race in the multivers.

Consider yourself cigned up Lazaris, what style of Necron are you going with and how out of 5th ed are you (how thick is the dust).

Oh, and for some strange reason I just got sucked into playing a game while using my Orkz, insane as I wanted to stick to one side of the bloody fence for this event.

I will be running 2K of BidP vs Space Wolves on the first day of the cross-forum campaign. At that game I will book a Necron game as well; but it will probably be a week later as I can't play every bloddy day (I wish I could). Oh well, I get to add points to both factions now as I am not planning on loosing any of my games (CC armies always do well in 5th, and I have the Lucky dice on my side).

Cheers

Moc, you can go ahead and stick with Necrons - OD will take care of the greenskins.

@ all you other blokes - Geez! The project boards are dead forever and here I go sticking something so it's not premature, and everyone's got there eyes on it!... Just kidding, ha. As OD said, it's good to know people remember the Projects exist!

I am working on having NecronCell2131 take the reigns for the Necrons (or another Necron player) as its easier for me (as a mod) to assist them, than it is for them to assist me. It would also give me a little leaway to play more games.

Oh and on that note, I phoned my buddy back (game scheduled for day 1 of campaign @ 2K) and he said that he wanted to face Bluu in da Phaes as he has a plan to kruch them at last; but, he also said that if I wanted to bring The Mighty Green Machine instead then he would be up for another beating (He actually has not beaten either force yet - although he has tried). Anyway, I will be working on both the Necron and the Ork lists (as I usually gear up for 1700pts) and I will flip a coin to see which army faces his Wolves (tougher for him to tool up directly this way).

Cheers

Battle Reports can be submitted directly to this thread once the campaign opens. As far as battle report submissions go, these should be pretty similar to any other battle reports you've submitted to 40K Online. Where possible, it'd be nice to add a bit of story to the batrep to really highlight the personalities that make up your army.

I can only sign up for one team, correct?  I've been getting really into my Ork codex since my surgery on Friday (something to read in those brief periods of lucidity), but I intend to play Necrons first and foremost, unless there's a shortage of Orks.

I'll sign up for sectors 2 and 3.  Also be expecting something in the way of fluff/fiction and maybe a portrait.

Stick to a single sector if at all possible, since it will cost your faction points to have players switching between sectors. List your preferred sector first, then other sectors you could play in if needed.

Oh, and welcome aboard everyone! I look forward to coordinating another one of these!

Hey, you said the 16th would be the start date. I am already booked and working out the strategy; now I will have to kick his arse twice in succession (thrice if you count the last beating I gave my scheduled opponent). Sheesh, or I have to diversify within my group which is getting harder since the kiddies are all back in school (us grown-ups play daytime games not evenings).

Cheers.

I sold my only monolith and 3/5 of my regular destroyers lol.  I believe I can still field a 1500 army, but it will be old school.  Old school as in what I ran in 4th edition when I first started.  I'll look for some noobie ork players to battle to give myself a handicap ;).

Ctan, d-lord w/ wraith retinue, 2-3 squads warriors, 4 heavy destroyers, and lots o bugs...have immortals just have to rebase them ( funny think about direct sunlight.  It melts plastic bases ;)).

I Just read to post batreps on this thread, erm...... Since I also just read that the sneaky gits just changed the start date from the 16th to the 26th I guess todays battle doesn't count, so it is posted here;

Signup started the 16th so we could get a head count and you can all pow-wow in your respective boards, so people know which sector they'll be fighting in and who'll be responsible for what. The fighting actually starts on the 26th.

Yes the campaign starts in one week!  (Next time I don't think we should have as long a period between signup and startup.)

And I urge everybody to take a good look at Skeetergod's Batrep, as a sign of what's to come, Massively fun Battles.  It doesn't matter if Necrons or Orks win (well except for the honor of determining which forum's better), but these games are gonna be downright krumpy and massively fun!  With little time left before the full start, don't you wanna get in on da fun.

Peace
~OD
Truly beautiful work. That's the kind of stuff that makes a true mekanik cry tears of joy.

Well boys, I had two games with TMGM and so far I have not lost, so SKEETERGOD is not the only one get some practice games in. He's a bragggart though as he posted his Batrep (me to I guess since me 1700 pt game is still in there - 2nd game was the same opponent at 2K) I have pic's but I will refrain from boasting.

I am glad that guys are getting into the swing of things but for clarity the contest is starting 26th of September, and that includes the CP's and the NP's right (Both Campaign and Notority start at the same time, correct). As I did the Bust Pic of SupRINM-11 (D-Lord) and I think that some story time might be comign as well as a few Batrep's etc etc.

Anywho, good luck to you all, and may the best man Machine Win.

Cheers
