1st Ultramarine List 1.5k
« on: November 19, 2016, 06:29:42 PM »
Hi all I've been out of 40k for like 5 years now and was thinking about getting back in, but with marines instead of Eldar.  Bought the codex and came up with this:

HQ:
Librarian: Terminator Armor, Storm Shield, Melta Bombs - 105

Trp:
Tactical SquadX10: Lascannon, Plasma Gun - 175
Tactical SquadX10: Lascannon, Plasma Gun - 175
Tactical SquadX10: Lascannon, Plasma Gun - 175

Elt:
Assault TerminatorsX8: Thunder Hammer/Storm Shields - 360

Fst:

Hvy:
DevastatorsX6: 4XLascannons, Armoriom Cherub - 169
DevastatorsX6: 4XLascannons, Armoriom Cherub - 169
DevastatorsX6: 4XLascannons, Armoriom Cherub - 169

The plan would be to shoot them with everything I have and Deepstrike in Assault Terminators at the 'Opportune Moment'. Librarian can go with termies or tacticals I suppose.

Will this work? Also any advice on Ultramarines in general would be appreciated. Whats competitive nowadays? I prefer lots of infantry on foot.  Thanks!
And though all I see is darkness...
I shall not flinch from my destiny..!

I'd generally recommend against deepstriking Assault Termies, as they have a tendency to die when you do that (everybody just gangs up on them on the turn they have to sit there)and you also can't control exactly when they show up.

If you want to do marines on foot, I'd suggest taking a gander at the Battle Demicompany formation teamed up with one of the other formations (the First Company Strike Force, for instance), as the formation bonuses are particularly spiffy.

Also: consider drop-pods. You are still doing marines on foot, essentially, but you get to better decide where their feet are going to start, which is very handy.
