Title: Good seals...
Post by: Fafnir on November 5, 2008, 12:38:57 AM
Now that my core is complete(sans basing), it's time to clear coat them. But... what brand? GW brand is out of the question, as I'd never pay 15 bucks for a can of clear coat, no matter how good. If possible, something from duplicolour would be best, since it's very easy and cheap for me to obtain.

I use Testor's Dullcote, myself. It's a matte finish and relatively cheap. Good quality too.

I'll see if my hobby store stocks it on thursday. I need to go for an eye appointment then, and I'll have an hour to kill anyway, so I can see if they have the primer, and pick up a mini or two while I'm at it...

But as far as I know, they only carry GW. Of course, that's just at the very front of the store in the minis section. I'd imagine, since they carry plenty other hobby materials, they'd have more then just GW stuff...

Me too. It's worked great for me.

I just use any satan clear coat I can find. Right now I believe i have krylon. Basically as long as it doesn't say gloss on it the clear coat will work fine. I still test the can if its the first time i have used it just incase but I haven't had any 'milky' cans yet.

I use modelmaster/testor  Semi-gloss... because it helps the highlights you made sparkle in the light and look more realistic_without looking overly glassy.  It also, makes black models have that slight sheen that all blacks tend to have.
