40K Online United Nations Project? dont click here!!!
« on: October 16, 2006, 05:33:27 AM »
ok ok ok, being bored i was looking through the member map. and i realised.

we have a huge!!!! number of members from many many different nations.

then i thought what if we created just for fun like a 40k online UN? with a chairman and different diplomats voted for each nation and this UN could debate and try and solve some of the major problems in the world right now -like each week the chairman could pull up points and the diplomats could post and argue in it. see if we could do a better job than the real UN.

and we could fill in some of the bigger more important nations that no one is affiliated to as well.

and as a standing rule we would have no veto power for any nation and a revolving security council that had no permanent members...

cool?

huzzah?

...Aaaaaaaand you completely missed the point of the topic.  Thanks.

Now he didn't say that.

I think this is a novel and inspired idea and I support it fully. Now to try and get some more people involved. Anyone more artistically involved than I capable of making a banner to attract members to the cause?

Oh, well that's ok, then.

I fully support it, in that case - it's always good to have a debate on a slightly more meaningful subject than what GW actually meant before their authors got slapped in the head whilst writing the codex/FAQ for a change.

Bizarrely, we might have a better chance of reaching an agreement, as well; pedants and nit-pickers we may be, but most people seem to be reasonable when it's blatantly obvious something's unfair...

<scurries off to underground nuclear arsenal>

What would the banner be, though;  Are we just thinking of calling it 40kOnline UN, or what?

To go with the 40k theme, The Senatorum, maybe....

I'd be happy to help - UK - but I think diplomat is possibly the wrong term. I garuantee I'll get things moving, but sadly the 'things' in question will probably be missiles....

We could make it 40K based, so instead of nations we have races, with ambassadors for each to decide stuff in terms of FAQ rulings, campaign involvement, things of that nature.

The nations thing sounds pretty cool as well however

If youre going to do something with races, then it should be seperate.

This should be countries...forming a model UN.
But anywho, as i said...im up for being Prime Minister of Australia, we have no nuclear technology so i cant harm anyone (plus all this North Korea stuff is having a big impact on us)

I really really like this idea.

Though I'm a Brit I'm currently in Switzerland, the home of neutrality, so I put myself forward as the Swiss rep.
I'm pretty sure there arn't any other Swiss about.

ok first we decide on the nations, there are 40  nations represented on 40k online, each one must have an ambassador. if you arent signed up on the member map you get no vote. no nation may enter unless they are signed up on the board. until elections can begin for the diplomats and the chairman (chosen by the diplomats) i will be chair, along with whichever mod is interested at the time.

once we have enough popularity members post if they would like to stand for their nation.

votes are cast maybe in the voting poll thread

the chosen representitives vote for chairman, who cannot have voted or have put themselves forward for a diplomat post

Yeah i like the name!!!  ;D

Just wait for a bit now, and see how many people express interest...

I think you can do votes here, so people who havent seen the thread dont go and vote randomly...

This seems like a cool idea, but how is it going to be different from a normal discussion, excepting a certain level of roleplaying? Are we going to work towards solutions?

In which case, I'm up for being the Dutch delegate.

I think that could make the difference.
Too often we have issues in the discussion board which are inflamatory, polarising and ultimately divisive.
By "role-playing" the serious issues of the day via a UN format we can try to reach a consensus that is inclusive and constructive rather than degenerating into a flame-fest.
I like it.
