Post by: Mortalis on September 23, 2017, 07:59:35 PM
Prepare for the necro post of all necro posts. (old topic is here (http://www.40konline.com/index.php?topic=223647.0))

Hey guys!

Super long time no see. Hope you're all well. I think it's been several years since I posted anything in 40k online and it's been at least 4 since this thread but my Osgiliath gaming board is finally finished after SEVEN AND HALF YEARS of working on it.

beslubber me.

Anyway I made a little youtube clip of the gaming board and some sweet timelapses of me making it so check it out.

Well, that's pretty awesome! I'm really envious of that table, be great for Age of Sigmar as well! Hopefully you have some folks you can find some folks to play LotR on that board with you!

I hope you can post a battle report on it!

Thanks guys :)

Yeah we're definitely thinking about a battle report of some kind. I've got a couple of faithful comrades who still hold the torch for LotR SBG luckily. Saracenar, a 40konline account quite prominent on the Ork and Eldar forums six or seven years ago is one of the main ones.

I'll definitely keep you guys posted.

Topic split because of the Photobucket issue and age of the old topic.  This project is too good to be sullied by broken Photbucket images.

Outstanding work.  It may have taken you ages, but it is so worth it.  What a fantastic board and video.  It's really well explained and presented.  This is an incredible achievement that you have pulled off here.

Thanks man!

Yeah it's a joy to play on. Saracenar and I smashed out a sweet game on a small 4 by 5 section of the board and the battle report should be out soonish, I'll chuck it in here when it is :)

Hey Mortalis, I remember following this thread with a keen interest a little while back. I'm glad that you've returned to show us the finished product.

Wow. What a finished product!

This is one to be truly proud of Morty. The scale is tremendous, but you don't appear to have lost any of the level of detail that tends to occur on a project this big. It really is a testament to your skill, but moreover your planning, diligence and perseverance.

Take a bow Sir. Take a bow.

Outstanding work Mortalis and it is so good to see this project in its completed state after all of these years. Way back in your original post I commented that I didn't think the standard of your doors matched the excellent standard of the rest of the project. Watching the video I didn't see any doors at all so I was wondering what happened to them.

Thanks Looshkin :) Something that was really important to me, was making sure that just because I was getting close to the finish that I wouldn't rush the last sections just to be done. Actually filming the video of the final piece was a great way to keep me focussed :D

Thanks Scar :) we actually found during playtesting that the doors on that particular building became too much of a chokepoint and for better free flowing play we just scrapped them haha. Which was good because they were pretty rubbish :D

Hey dudes!

Another update on Osgiliath for those who are interested. This time I go into heaps of detail on the design process and how I tried to implement a high level of Modularity to add extra replayability :D

Let me know you're thoughts!

Great insight Mortalis, thank you for taking the time putting that video together. Hopefully it'll inspire a few people to make a big, impressive board as you have done. Top stuff!
