[Chaos]
dry blend
Painting technique - gradual layers of colour are built up, allowing each layer to dry before applying the next.  When done carefully it creates a near imperceptible transition, often from light to dark but also from one colour to another if so wished.

[Other]
dry-brush
Painting technique - a very small amount of paint is taken onto the brush and then almost all is removed onto a piece of cloth or paper.  What little is left on the brush is then lightly brushed over the model.  Because the brush is so bare, this means that usually only the sharp edges really catch the paint creating the highlight.

[Other]
DS
Deep Strike

[General 40K]
 F
feathering
A painting technique used after the base coat is applied.  Usually used for  shading on flat surfaces with black or brown paint.  The paint is heavily watered down then applied in a line where you want the shade to be darkest before dragging it over the base coat.  Very long process and must be repeated multiple times to get the desired look.

[General 40K]
flat-line
Painting technique - used to edge sharp corners such as the outer hull of a tank, outer edge of an armour place (where accessible) or the outer edge of cloth.  Paint is applied from the flat of the brush instead of the painting - this requires a less steady and and provides much greater flow control for a crisper line on the model.  However this only works on protruding edges.

[Other]
 G
GEQ
Guard/Guardian Equivalent.

[General 40K]
gesso
Painting term - a product that works as a primer.  Usually painted on and shows incredible shrinkage once dry.  Some people prefer it because it sometimes helps get better coverage than spray, keeps better detail and enables you more control during application.  However it is designed for use on canvas primarily and is not necessarily as game durable as a designed model primer.

glaze
Painting technique - paint is diluted with a medium (usually a matte medium of some form) and is then applied to the model.  This increases the translucency of the colour without making it too watered down.

object source lighting
Painting term - painting a model in a particular way where an item within the diorama is casting light (this may most commonly be seen in 40k with power weapons and plasma pistols, and also in FB with carried torches/open flames).  This means actively painting an alternate light source onto the model, with it's own affect of a "glow" aura.

See blackline.

[Other]
over-brush
Painting technique - similar to dry brushing but less paint is removed from the brush.  Because the mix on the brush is not so watered down, when liberally brushed over the model you can quickly get good coverage without the paint running into recesses, however it is not good if you want a smooth blend.

primer
Painting term - a product used to literally prime models for painting.  Usually bought in black, white or grey and usually in spray form.  The formula of primer is designed to cling to metal/plastic/resin and bite into recesses, meaning that when you start actual painting it won't just pool on the surface.  Also helps to prevent chipping.

Painting technique - either ink or watered down paint is liberally applied to the model.  This is designed to quickly shade recesses.

[Other]
wet blend
Painting technique - two colours are laid down over a basecoat, both should be very watered down.  Using a brush they are dragged into one another and mixed on the surface of the model.  When done carefully it creates a near imperceptible transition, often from light to dark but also from one colour to another if so wished.

[Other]
wet palette
Painting tool - a container with a lid (usually tupperware, a biscuit tin or something similar).  Inside is a layer of wet sponge with grease proof paper on top.  This can be used like a normal palette and because of the semi-permeable grease proof paper it will keep your paints near indefinitely wet.  Useful if you're blending, mixing large amounts of particular colours, painting over a series of days or in a hot/breezy environment where you paints dry out quickly.
