Topic: Assaulting a Battlewagon with Deff-Rolla

Hello Ork Board,

I don't normally venture to these parts as I fight in the holy name of the Emperor of Mankind, however I have a question that I feel you lot would be best answering.

I had a battle the other day and I assaulted the front armour of a battlewagon with a deff-rolla, my opponent claimed that I should suffer D6 Str 10 hits aswell, as per the rules for the battlewagons deff-rolla (p55 of your codex) but I pointed out that the blurb on the page only stipulates that condition when the battlewagon is tank shocking (with an additional D6 of str 10 hits if a Death or Glory attack is made), and since I launched the assault in I shouldn’t have to take the hits…right?

My question basically boils down to:

"Does a Deff-Rolla cause any damage to a unit attacking in their own assault phase?"

Or alternatively, “Can a deff-rolla cause damage outside of being used in a Tank Shock?”

I can see the logic that it would, but I can't see anything specific in the rules...Anyone care to clarify?

No it most certainly doesn't cause damage during an assault,

As you stated it does damage when tank shocking and only when tank shocking.

doesn't it also work when ramming ?( i'm not sure as i'm new to orks but ramming is a tank shock against a vehicle isn't it?)

Correct, but is really covered by what WisdomLS said.    Per the errata, ramming is a specialized form of tank shocking.
