Displaying your army?
« on: March 28, 2018, 08:50:08 PM »
Any one keep their army on a shelf/display cabinet? Seeing a bunch of relatively cheap display cabinets come onto the market, like the ikea detolf. Just wondering if anyone is storing their army(s) this way or not.

If you do, did you customise the self likea diorama? or does that just end up being too much work to take model out to game with?

I have two detolf cabinets in my workshop and they're awesome. The only downside was that they only come with three shelves. I did find a guy on eBay that 3d printed brackets that allowed you to add shelves to the cabinet and they were not very expensive. Get some glass shelves at your local glass supplier and it doubled my storage for about $40.

I just searched detolf on eBay and he was easy to find.

Really happy with them. It was unfortunate that they discontinued the maple colour and now there is only a choice of white or black. Still, nothing beats these cabinets for what you get for such a cheap price.

Yeah, I have 3 of the detour cabinets. They’re terrific.

Great suggestion by DoW to increase the storage, I’m going to have to get in on that!

Just ordered some more to add a couple of extra shelves. The seller's name was 2005helliwell. He's got some interesting 3d printed terrain pieces as well.

He was a website too. Infinity-engine.com.

yeah I found the guy, unfortunately I'm on the other side of the world so, it cost almost as much as buying a new case lol.

Can you put much on each shelf? The Ikea website has a bunch of info on the case dimensions but leaves out the actual shelf size.

Did you guys sit them on something to get them off the floor?

I haven't tested the weight, but I'm able to fit a 2000 point chaos army that's mostly pewter on one shelf with no issue. The detolf has feet, so it's adequately off the floor.
