As I understand it, it was easier to adjust 5th rather than try and untangle the mess of 6th or 7th. The players enjoyed some of the more tactical depth rom earlier games, such having to think about how you face your tank, etc.
I can see why folks would not want to play 8th, but 5th was a broken edition. Why not just play 7th and not use formations? That keeps things simple.
Seriously. 5th edition, also known as Razorback Spam edition. Also, freaking Grey Knights. If you thought elder were bad in 7th, Grey Knights are way worse . I don't miss it lol.
