Eldar Aeldari Army List Building Competition - The Vote
« on: July 8, 2017, 06:08:27 PM »
There are a whopping ten entrants and links to their army list entries (see below) are listed in the order in which they were submitted to the contest topic.

1500 pts Comp List - all comers

1500 pts competition list: Iyanden Ghost Warriors
Aeldari 1500 all-comers competition: Footdar
1500p for competition mechanized Ynnari brigade

1500 List Building Competition - Competitive All Comers List (Asuryani)
Listbuilding Comp List -1,500pts All-comers
1500 list for competition

The poll will run for seven days. You can change your vote if you make a mistake.  If you wish to say who you voted for, this is okay.  Note though that voting is anonymous, so unless you say who you voted for nobody can find out.  The results of the poll will only be displayed after the voting time has expired, as it helps to build the suspense and to stop people voting based on how others vote.

A reminder of rules can be found here.

Good luck to all the participants :).

I'm an idiot  ::) I totally forgot to update my list and provide the link. Oh well, I wasn't going to win against some of these beasts anyway!

Good luck to all the participants.

Could we get a re-posting of the rules for the comp too in the OP, for those that are just now reading up on it and don't know or may have forgotten?

I've cast my vote, mostly going for "what looks most fun to play" and "minimal unit spamming"  :)

I'm a bit surprised to see how people seem to dislike Hawks though. My meta shifted away from MEQ and altough they're a bit expensive, a full Squad of these guys can really make a difference.

It is unusual for anyone not following or participating in the competition to vote, however, a link has been added.

Now that is a good amount of entries, it's going to be very intresting. :)
I found there were 2 list that stood out a bit, so I had to weigh them for a while before finally deciding who to cast my vote on. :)

Vote cast, very impressive list to choose from.

A great start to the comp list season, guys. Thanks to all that participated.
How did people find the 1500pt limit? I've alwAys found 1500 to be the sweet spot for challenging list building where you could be facing anything, but you don't quite have enough points to field everything you want.
But in 8th I'm wondering if 1750 might be a better total?

1500 points was reasonable in the sense that it was somewhat constraining, which makes writing lists a little more interesting. I don't know if increasing points would cause more or less diversity in lists.

To me personally, 1500 points was relatively less interesting because it's not practical.

In 7th, where I play most people with decently sized model collections would not ever agree to play anything under 1750-1850 points. With the new 8th edition point costs the old 1750-1850 formats are roughly equivalent to the new 2000, and so in my club (as well as in most other communities I know) currently nobody plays anything under 2000 (and some are trying 2.5-3k).

So, to me 1500 or 1750 would make no difference as both are well under what is actually playable, and so writing lists to any of those formats would remain a purely academic exercise. Thus I'm very much looking forward to 2k lists competition :)

A reminder that the poll is still open for another day, so there is still time for anyone who hasn't voted to do so.

I swing the exact opposite way lol. While I have not added up what I have in 8th, I had just shy of 5k in 7th. However, with the introduction of 8th, there a ton of new players about. So I am getting a lot of smaller games - 25 power level is a common request.

For me, the challenge becomes creating lists that A) are fun B) won't wipe the noob but still C) are competitive.

Wow.
Going up against 10 other high quality entrants, and with a fairly spammy list, I did not expect that.
Great comp guys, great discussions and I learnt a lot.
SeekingOne: I voted for you. I had kind of ruled out the wraithknight as overpriced, but you showed me how it can still be an excellent option in the right list.
All: Next comp will be power point. Any thoughts on the limit?

Congrats gaz! I voted for you  :D

There were some great lists here, many of which were totally unexpected and really interesting. As I mentioned before, magenb's and volatilegaz's lists particularly stood out for me from the start, and I was seriously torn between them. I really love magenb's list for its variety, tactical flexibility and overall feel. It is an example of an army that would be really interesting and exciting to build, paint and play - and that is, at the same time, rather strong too! However, in the end I cast my vote for volatilegaz's list because, to my experience, it is stronger from a purely competitive standpoint.

The biggest advantage of volatilegaz's list is that it can be reduced to just 5 deployment choices, meaning that it has some serious chances to go first vs many opponents. And with everything except Guardians having effective reach of at least 40" or more, the army, despite its compact size, can put out one hell of a 1st turn alpha-strike. It is fluffy in its own right too - I love the picture of Maugan Ra taking to the field at the head of a small force of his disciples, with some generic Craftworld units requisitioned for support :)

Thanks everyone for great and educative experience and special thanks to gaz and Iris for organising it! :)

Gratz volatilegaz!

Really neat list - looking forward to seeing what you come up with next time.

As to the next time - I'd say lets shoot for equivalent size but in PL - see what people can do with that - in anything. 75 power level should be 1500 points

G'day Volatilegaz!
Congrats mate. My vote went to Magenb, so sorry about that. However, you deserve the win. Keen to see the lists for the next comp... Be well!
