WYSIWYG Question
« on: December 7, 2008, 01:10:14 PM »
Would anyone have a problem if someone used the "Relic Blade" rules for some kind of lighter, more ornate (artificer forged) power fist?

Probably not, but if it just looks like a powerfist I'd be less into it.  I feel like relic blades need to be special looking.  Mine is a carnifex's scything talon.  You should definitely find time to make it look like something special.

Hmm, I'd say no. It doesn't look like a blade then.

The description says two-handed sword or axe. I'd say just stick with that.

If it looks ornate enough, i'd let it be a relic blade.

Personally, i converted mine using the Marauder/Beastmen kits, the head is the mace/scythe thing, whilst there's the mace from the flail on the bottom, the staff is actually the banner, complete with hand (he was originally a librarian, and i prefer to think that he needs to be able to physically touch the weapon to use it as a force weapon).

If it looks good enough, then use it.

Also, the description for a frostblade states it is in essence a chainsword, yet i've never used a chainsword for one, far too hard to convert, especially when a power sword looks far better in most cases.

Yeah, I wouldn't worry about the shape of the relic blade.  It says ax or sword in the description but Vulkan's is clearly a glaive.

I had a feeling that the consensus would be, "go for it". Especially, since the relic blade costs more than a power fist (for good reason). I just like the way power fists look (yes, it would be intricate), but I like the idea of having the trade off in lower Strength for higher Initiative.

You know the Veteran model where the guy has the laurels on his helmet and he's holding that giant axe?  I've begun work on making him into a Captain with a Relic Blade.  It's already a very ornate model, and if you put a couple of purity seals on his weapon I'd say it's good to go.

I only bring it up because I believe you can find him in a blister pack, and I know you can get him in the Veteran Box.  It might save you an awful lot of time.

I think that I know the model you're talking about. That is a nice looking sculpt!

I'm actually dead set on the look of a power fist. If it turns out to be a problem to any of my opponents, I'll save the 5 points to downgrade it to an actual power fist, and then add melta bombs to make up the cost.

How about making it look like a stupenny shuffley chainfist and have a power weapon coming out of it? A sword from the palm ala Assassin's Creed, or an axe blade on either side?

Ah.  I get it.  Even so, I don't think that anyone with an ounce of sportsmanship in their body would hassle you about using a powerfist model if you put enough ornamentation on it.   :)

Now, THAT kicks butt! I like that idea. I'm also toying with a large, two-handed bladed weapon with edges all the way down the haft.

Like some sort of super power weapon? That sounds damn cool.

I may have to make a fleshy one for my numerous Daemon Princes.

maybe go for something like this mounted onto the fist

might come off more like lightning claws, though..

maybe something like the axe blade from here:

just imagine the PF grabbing the axe-head from the top, so that the thicker edges are at the wrist and thinner ones at the knuckes end... might actually be able to pull this one off with two actual relic-blade axe-heads..

Dude! I'm thinking that one of those ax heads, mounted to each forearm would be a GREAT relic blade!

How about the one from the Masters of the Chapter set that is supposed to look like an Imperial Eagle?

Im currently working on three conversions for relic blades.
the first is a marines with cloud's buster sword from FFVII
the second has Sephiroths (FFVII) murasamune blade (which is huge i've made it about 3" in length
the third is a relic blade\bolter combination that looks like Squals revolver gunblade from FFVIII

i hope this makes sense to someone out there :)

makes perfect sense to me!  Sounds awesome!

The gunblade is a cool idea.  I wish I had thought of it...
