1000 points for the winter war
« on: December 11, 2002, 11:59:35 AM »
Hi I am going to enter the winter war at GW and am going to be useing one of the following lists, which do you think I should use.

1st
1 Tyrant (warp blast, 2 talons, full stats, implant attack     extended carapace, wings, flesh hooks)
1 Tyrant (as above)
3 Warriors (leaping, claws, talons, extended carapace, flesh hooks)
12 Gaunts (horms -1ws)
12 Gaunts (horms -1ws)
12 Gaunts (horms -1ws)
1 Fex (talons, extended carapace, venom cannon)
                              Total 1004
2nd (seeding swrm)
1 Tyrant (warp blast, full stats, implant attacks, 2 talons, extended carapace)
3 Warriors (talons, claws, extended carapace)
20 Gaunts (3 claws, 1 node)
20 Gaunts (as above)
1 Fex (2 talons)
20 Gaunts (3 claws, 1 node, without number)
20 gaunts (as above)
                                  Total 1004
I will probably have to face most armies, and I don know what senarioe we will be playing.

Thanx

well,
if its an actrual tourney i imagine you cant go above the points limit (which i prossume is 1000)

I like the first list,
but maybe ditch one of the tyrants for more troops,
since that would leave you with less Sythenis troops though, make sure to upgrade one of the guants to Hive Nod in each squad.

the second list is pretty good too,
but guants arent meant to kill the enemy,
they're just there to block line of sight and soften up some of your opponents squads before the big gribblies get stuck in.

As far as im aweare, in tornerments you are allowed to be a few points over.

As to the second list I could drop one squad of 20 gaunts for 1 fex and 1 warriors, equiped as before.

I think you should lose a Tyrant from the first list, and have more warriors, there a very versatile unit, because they can deal with most armies, including space marines with their rending claws.

As for the secound list, I think 80 gaunts is a bit exesive, considering it is just a 1000 point battle. If I were you I would lose some gaunts, and put another 'fex on, but with a venom cannon, to deal with tanks.
Its not about winning, its about having fun.

It should be noted, that the 2 gaunt squads in heavy support are without number so benefite from the sustained assult rules. I think you should drop the first list cause the second is supirior. Then go ahead and make the troops gaunts smaller units for bigger without number, and maybe some ferocious genstealers to tie up guys so they dont kill your tyrant the first turn he comes down.

what does "without number" mean or do?

warriors arent actrully that great against marines though,
they're good when they get in combat but on the walk accros the board there's sure to be a couple of heavy bolters or maybe even a whirlwind.

Without number is weare you can recycle gaunts or stelers when they run or hit 50% unit strength. The units of gaunts cant be smaller because I have 4 mutations in each squad and 5 spicies in the armey. The plan was to over ecsessive on the gaunts front, this would hopefull overwhelm the enemy.

Why should I drop the tyrant in the first list, its as use full as warriors any day and dies less easily and kills marrines just as fast.
