Yes, I highschool I read the inferno I still have a copy in my bookshelve.

Have you read any Kurt Vonnegut?

he is great, it is mostly social and political satire. I would reccomend, either

God Bless you mr. Rosewater (about money, and volunteer firemen)

Cats cradle (about the end of the world)

Slaughterhouse 9 (time jumping american WWII soldier in a womans coat)

Mother Night (american Nazi propagandist who was really an american spy)

Breakfast of champions (crazy carsalesmen looses his mind and beats the crap out of his mistress and gay son when he believes them to be machines, It was actually made into a movie staring Bruce willis, but it doesn't really do the book justice)

i've read both authors, mostly by borrowing them from my sister, but they are quite accomplished aren't they?
dante's inferno was an interesting read.

hmmm
oh yea and Terry Brooks, he might of stolen from tolkien but he has a different approach(LOTR kinda put me to sleep when i was reading it, but it boasts enourmous detail)
